Is anyone looking forward to it? Did anyone who vote leave happy they voted it? Or regretful?

@SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed

There does seem to be an element of society who are happy to watch everything crash and burn.
I don't think it's that though, I think lots of people honestly believe it will be great and good for the economy. Have a look at the comments under Brexit stories on the BBC news website to see what I mean.

EmeraldShamrock · 03/01/2019 10:38

Yes I can't wait to feel the domino effect of the UK economy crumbling, dragging Ireland down the river too.
It will be marvellous, not many are as excited Sad

onalongsabbatical · 03/01/2019 10:39

Yep never will be done and dusted. Rejoin campaigns champing at the bit and I will back them with my last breath. It's not over, @SilverySurfer my dear. You wait.

BishopBrennansArse · 03/01/2019 10:39

Yep, absolutely. I can't wait for the supermarket shelves to be empty and to run out of the meds that keep me functioning. Whoop de doo. Hmm

InspectorIkmen · 03/01/2019 10:40

Perry I'm so sorry. Your first post almost made the tears prickle. I am SO fucking ashamed of our country and what's happening to you and so many like you. I wish there was something - anything - I could do or say but there isn't. Just know that so so many of us wish this wasn't happening, wish it had never happened, wish it would fucking stop.
I'm so sorry. Sad

hippipotamiwantstoloseapound · 03/01/2019 10:40

I am terrified my application to remain in the UK will be rejected (despite having been here for 27 years, having worked and paid taxes) and that I will be forced to leave my British dh and British born children behind...

WhoNose88 · 03/01/2019 10:42

Nothing - I'm unbelievably sad about it all. Our economy is going to dive and our opportunities shrink and both government and opposition (looking at you JC) seem complicit in making sure that happens.

The only thing that's a silver lining is that pensions will undoubtedly go down as well (and should) since the Europeans who are leaving are all working age and tax paying. So the older generation get to share in the mess they helped create (sorry to the ones who, like my parents, voted Remain and can't understand what happened).

Kittykatmacbill · 03/01/2019 10:43

Oh good another thread silver tells its great but can’t articulate a thing that is good about.

No nothing to look forward to unless you are a disaster capitalist.

drspouse · 03/01/2019 10:46

No food, no medicine, and my employer unable to recruit.
Yep, lots to look forward to.

Rockbird · 03/01/2019 10:47

I have a German friend and a Polish friend. I'll never forget their faces, or the faces of their kids the morning after that vote.

Any of the twats people I know who voted leave, when asked why say "we need to take back control". Of what they don't know. So that's ok then.

LittleLionMansMummy · 03/01/2019 10:48

I don't think it's that though, I think lots of people honestly believe it will be great and good for the economy.

And take a look at leave.eu to see how the economy doesn't even come into it - it'll just be better because... Well, because 'sovereignty' and "we won two world wars against Germany, we can get through this, we are Great! We once ruled the world!" I have seen, literally, only a handful of eloquent and reasonably well argued cases.

SoyDora · 03/01/2019 10:50

I have seen, literally, only a handful of eloquent and reasonably well argued cases

That’s more than I’ve seen!

RiskIt4Biscuit · 03/01/2019 10:51

I'm looking forward to seeing all of those tangible benefits of Brexit that no-one wants to list.

Surely there has to be at least one tangible benefit of Brexit, right? Why else would people vote for it?

Even Rees-Mogg says that it could be 50 years before we'll see any benefits of Brexit, and Lord Digby Jones, the very optimistic Brexiteer, said it would take 100 years.
How can anyone be negative about that?

What did those eloquent and reasonably argued cases actually say?

bellinisurge · 03/01/2019 10:55

No. It's shit.
Only disaster capitalists and momentum types want the chaos of No Deal.
We could "manage " with WA. It's not what I'd want but at least it would be a more grown up way to Leave.

echt · 03/01/2019 10:55

A conveniently new MNer. Hmm

Better had you posted what you thought was so negative. But then that's not what you're here for, is it?

I'm kind of looking forward to the deletion message on this thread when it inevitably descends into name calling and predictions of doom and won't somebody PLEASE think of the children! fake sob

I am looking forward to Brexit for various reasons. Here are a few.

Collaboration between countries (EU or not) is a good thing in some ways at some times. However, one-size-fits-all political unification isn't necessary. Brexit will restore our flexibility in this regard, whereas the EU has always been about "Ever Closer Union" (even when under cover of names like the "Coal and Steel Community" or "Common Market".

The EU makes rules to suit large corporations which can afford to lobby it constantly. After Brexit there will be a more level playing field for smaller and mid-sized British enterprises. Less monopolisation, more localism and innovation.

I object to having been told I was suddenly a so-called "EU citizen" with no choice. You cannot even renounce it without also renouncing your UK citizenship simultaneously. The EU isn't a country (so shouldn't claim to have its own "citizens") but has arrogantly put in place symbols, names and procedures to try to mimic one. Flag, passport, laws, borders, motto, parliaments, anthem, etc. Apparently the patriotism within a historically democratic and peaceful country like ours is "dangerous nationalism" but the EU is extremely nationalistic about itself.

Our taxpayers' money will all stay in the U.K. to be spent on UK priorities. The EU's goal of improving prosperity and employment hasn't worked, with youth unemployment in several EU countries above 20, 30 and even 40 per cent.

I do not want our young people to be called up to an EU Army (which was dismissed as scaremongering when mentioned on here before the referendum). Our very fine armed forces should be for the defence of our nation only, unless we decide otherwise on a case-by-case basis. The U.K. was already a peaceful country before the EU existed.

After Brexit we can look outwards around the world. In particular, we have the opportunity to work with African countries to develop emerging economies in fair collaborations. The EU leadership is mostly older/male/white and nowhere near as diverse as British politics.

PostNotInHaste · 03/01/2019 10:56

Really looking forward to helping my daughter decide which country her and her partner will emigrate to when she has finished her degree. Partner currently moved here but for some strange reason as an EU national doesn’t feel welcome at the moment.

How lucky are we, we’lll get to travel if we want to see her, shame we’re skint but I guess that’s what Skype is for. Physically seeing someone is so pre 2016. What’s not to look forward to.

MamaLovesMango · 03/01/2019 10:57

Yes, I am - and sick of waiting. Just want it all done and dusted now.

Why?! What does this even mean?!?!?! For the love of god please just EXPLAIN IT!!!

LadyWithLapdog · 03/01/2019 10:57

I’m looking forward to a “ferry” company who never delivered a pint of milk sorting out our economy.

EssentialHummus · 03/01/2019 10:58

In theory I suppose it’d be good if parliament’s focus shifted back to crucial things other than Brexit. In practice it likely won’t happen for a decade, and there will be less money for these things (healthcare, social care, education).

DH has a little ray of sunshine though - he’d love to move back to Austria (or Holland, or Germany) and for the first time I’m actually open-minded about it. I wouldn’t say that I feel unwelcome, more that I’m not sure I want to endorse this country with my presence (or my taxes).

bellinisurge · 03/01/2019 10:59

@Itinerary - are you looking forward to shortages in the shops too? Your "feelings" will feed you and keep you warm. And will make everyone happy. Hooray!
