@Hesta54 - I don't love the EU. Never said I did. But ridiculous attempts to equate Leave with escaping an abusive partner are shameful and, frankly, inaccurate.

Moussemoose · 03/01/2019 11:37

No prosecutions occurred because it was only an advisory referendum.

If it had been legally binding then the election would have been nullified.

What do you want legally binding or advisory? You can't have it both ways.

Moussemoose · 03/01/2019 11:40

The EU isn't a 'they' - Ireland is the EU.

For once in the history of Anglo Irish negotiations we can't simply bully them. The Irish are part of a large group and are supported by their friends. They aren't being 'used' they are being helped and supported.

In terms of bullying and abusive partners in relation to Ireland that is the British!

To try to pretend Britain is being bullied by the EU and Ireland is just shameful.

Hesta54 · 03/01/2019 11:41

Moussemoose if no criminal act has led to a prosecution, how can it be illegal?

Moussemoose · 03/01/2019 11:43

Because it wasn't legally binding. It is only illegal if you act that way in a legally binding election.

The election was advisory so while some prosecutions are pending you can't nullify an election that has no legal standing.

Hesta54 · 03/01/2019 11:43

Moussemoose I think you will find Ireland is in the E.U. they are being used by their now friend EU because it suits

Hesta54 · 03/01/2019 11:45

Moussemoose so no illegal act has been carried out in the referendum then,

bellinisurge · 03/01/2019 11:48

If you are a little country that routinely got shat on by your next door neighbour, surely you don't mind being "used" by your friends to get some protection.
Abusive partners, cheeky fucker friends? I hate to break this to you @Hesta54 , but this isn't an episode of EastEnders.

Buteo · 03/01/2019 11:48

Hesta the Electoral Commission has fined Leave.EU for offences committed under electoral law AND referred Banks and Bilney and others to the National Crime Agency for criminal investigation.

Leave.EU has been fined £70,000 by the Electoral Commission for offences committed under electoral law, following its investigation into the campaigner’s funding and spend during the EU referendum.

Through its investigation, the Commission also has reasonable grounds to suspect that the responsible person for Leave.EU committed criminal offences and she has therefore been referred to the Metropolitan Police.

Hesta54 · 03/01/2019 12:15

Buteo innocent until proven quilty

Hesta54 · 03/01/2019 12:17

bellinisurge Please give reasons why we have shat on them in the last 20 years or so

Peaseblossom22 · 03/01/2019 12:18

Ireland is the EU . Currently we are also the EU . Ireland is a willing member of the EU , it has an equal voice , in fact Leo Varadker is one of the most vocal members of the EU , this image of ‘poor little Orelamd being manipulated by the faceless EU’ is just rubbish

Hesta54 · 03/01/2019 12:19

Buteo I think you will find that remain were fined as well

Peaseblossom22 · 03/01/2019 12:20

Obviously that was meant to be Ireland

Moussemoose · 03/01/2019 12:21

Hesta54 you are rally struggling with 5is aren't you?

It it was a legally enforceable referendum it would have been declared void.

No crime because it wasn't binding. Is the simplest explanation.

Although, crimes were committed and prosecutions are pending.

Ireland are being helped by their partners in the EU after centuries of being oppressed by the U.K.

Hesta54 · 03/01/2019 12:22

Peaseblossom22 Yes the get Ireland that taken more money from the EU than its given it, and only recently 2016 give the EU more in a year than it recieves

Hesta54 · 03/01/2019 12:26

Moussemoose yes helped, just like the way people ignore their so called " Friends " until they need something

EcoCalc · 03/01/2019 12:26

Denocracy...anyone? As a remainer I feel strongly that we should leave because that is what was voted for.

Moussemoose · 03/01/2019 12:27

Hesta you need to be really careful when discussing Ireland - your historical ignorance is showing.

Ireland has had a net contribution from the EU to a large extent because Ireland need help in developing economically.

Any ideas as to why Ireland was poor? Any ideas as to what country systematically oppressed the Irish?

Do you not think the U.K. may possibly have a little bit of responsibility for the systematic oppression and subjugation of the Irish?

And now the Irish have friends and supporters we are appalled and cast ourselves as victims - it really is a shameful stance.

JacquesHammer · 03/01/2019 12:27

Denocracy...anyone?

Been covered at length...

Ta1kinPeace · 03/01/2019 12:28

Evidence based decision making.
Base your decision on the evidence.
Update your decision when the evidence updates.

That is why General Elections are every few years
rather than us living in a dictatorship after one election that
"was the will of the people"

Moussemoose · 03/01/2019 12:29

@EcoCalc I've explained it in detail at least 3 times on this thread already.

To help you : Advisory, illegal, democracy not one event, Parliament is sovereign, multiple votes often taken in relation to legislation.

Hesta54 · 03/01/2019 12:31

Moussemoose How far do you want to go back in time ? Many times on here when anybody mentions the sacrifice our men and women made during the WW2 to help free are European allies, they are told that's in the past, cant have it both ways

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 03/01/2019 12:31

Do people not read these threads...at all?

Moussemoose · 03/01/2019 12:32

The EU isn't a single monolithic 'they'. It is made up of an elected parliament when we have MEPs. The Council of Ministers is made up of elected governments of which ours is one. The ECJ has judges from all EU countries. The Commission has representatives from all EU countries.

You have a real persecution complex like many Brexiters.
