I know the rules so I did 1 better than a diagram, I got a photo.

My car is the grey one in the drive, silver car belongs to next door and grey van belongs to house across the road. They park like this all the time and claim I am not blocked in and I should be able to easily get out.

Am I missing something? My car is reversed back as far as it can go, it’s a narrow new build road so the van means I don’t have room to go out to the right and the car overlapping my drive stops me leaving to the left.

I’m a midwife and do on calls a lot, I am sick of having to knock on doors, which they usually don’t answer, and get someone to move so that I can attend whatever emergency I am being called to.

Is there something stopping the neighbour parking any further forward?

Dubbadubbadumdum · 31/12/2018 16:29

Your neighbors are pricks. Not much you can do about the can, but you could report the car. Or, go out and rock it so hard the it sets the alarm off,and when the owner runs out to you, hand them your own car keys and demand they get your car off the drive for you.

Whompthatwillow · 31/12/2018 16:30

YANBU. That is really inconsiderate parking. What do they say when you knock and ask them to move?

AornisHades · 31/12/2018 16:30

Can you start parking where they're parked?

Sirzy · 31/12/2018 16:31

With a tight lock on you probably could wriggle out. But you shouldn’t have to. I would park as far forward as you can so they can’t block it

CatchingBabies · 31/12/2018 16:31

Neighbour can’t park further forward as the road narrows (funnily enough to stop on road parking) and the gap between where it narrows and my dropped curb is less than neighbours car length. Pic to show what I mean but it’s dark sorry.

I like the idea of you parking where they do. Is that possible?

QueenNovo · 31/12/2018 16:33

Start going round at 4am and hammering on their doors to say you've had an emergency call out. Do that a few nights in a row and I bet they stop parking like twats.

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 31/12/2018 16:33

Start parking across the front of your drive or where the silver car is parked.

If they complain then tell them you're fed up of not being able to get out of your drive (point out that you're often called out in an emergency) so this was the only alternative.

CatchingBabies · 31/12/2018 16:34

When I knock the neighbour tells me to knock on the other house and ask them to move their van. But the van owner seems to never be in and doesn’t answer which means me going back to neighbour and asking again for them to move, which they eventually do but slowly. Or they just don’t answer, especially when it’s 3am and I’ve been called out to a home birth.

OP posts:
Apileofballyhoo · 31/12/2018 16:35

Do they not have a drive? I'd park across my own drive if I were you. What if something goes wrong at a birth because you can't get out?

LadyKalila · 31/12/2018 16:38

Don't park on your drive but across the end of your drive.

CatchingBabies · 31/12/2018 16:39

They do have a drive yes but they have 2 cars, same as the house across. I don’t know why anyone would buy a house with a drive for 1 car if they own 2! I could park where they park or across my drive although technically on road parking is forbidden in the deeds (not that they do anything about it) but they would prob just park behind me and block me in. On the occasions I’ve been unable to rise them I’ve had to take my partners car to work which means having to unload all my equipment from my car and change it over which obviously delays me leaving.

MiniCooperLover · 31/12/2018 16:39

Problem is if op does that she's more than likely parking across the end of the pavement?

MumW · 31/12/2018 16:40

If they are over your dropped curb, then I believe they are parked illegally.

SheStoodInTheStorm · 31/12/2018 16:40

I don't see why you should have to park across the end of your drive but I can't see any other way!
What a bunch of idiots. Who deals with yellow lines etc in new build estates? Would you have a case for yellow lines?

CrohnicallyEarly · 31/12/2018 16:41

Can you phone the local police if you are blocked in and need to get out in an emergency?

Violetroselily · 31/12/2018 16:42

Pair of wankers

Userplusnumbers · 31/12/2018 16:42

Next middle of the night call out ring the police and get them to sort it.

Bigonesmallone3 · 31/12/2018 16:42

That Audi is in the wrong.. not the van and I think if I was the van owner i would be pissed off if I got a knock on my door asking me to move coz someone has blocked ur drive..
I would leave a note on the Audi and say unfortunately I have been forced into contacting the council and requesting a H bar.

Consolidateyourloins · 31/12/2018 16:43

but they would prob just park behind me and block me in.

Can't you do this and block them in? Fight fire with fire.

Do it now!

MumW · 31/12/2018 16:45

Have you tried talking to your local police? Given that you are an on call midwife, they maybe willing to have a quiet word or even come out at 3am.

CatchingBabies · 31/12/2018 16:45

I’ve marked on the pic where my dropped curb starts, they are well over it. Who enforces that though? The site manager shrugs his shoulders and says nothing to do with him.

Could you elaborate more on the problem on the right hand side - is the van stopping anyone proceeding in that direction, or do you have to mount the kerb to get out that side?

CatchingBabies · 31/12/2018 16:46

And how do I get a H bar? It’s a private road and not adopted by the council if that makes a difference?
