I know the rules so I did 1 better than a diagram, I got a photo.

My car is the grey one in the drive, silver car belongs to next door and grey van belongs to house across the road. They park like this all the time and claim I am not blocked in and I should be able to easily get out.

Am I missing something? My car is reversed back as far as it can go, it’s a narrow new build road so the van means I don’t have room to go out to the right and the car overlapping my drive stops me leaving to the left.

I’m a midwife and do on calls a lot, I am sick of having to knock on doors, which they usually don’t answer, and get someone to move so that I can attend whatever emergency I am being called to.

That Audi driver is a CF! Have you told them you're a midwife too?! I'd deffo speak to local neighbourhood police team and see if they can have a word. Have you tried knocking for a chat when you don't want the car moved to explain that they are causing you a lot of issues? Some people are so inconsiderate!

haverhill · 31/12/2018 16:47

You can pay for yellow lines to be painted across your drive.
I had a problem like this and rang the non- emergency police number. They were very happy to send a community officer to speak to my neighbour.
The car partly blocking your drive is breaking the law.

Foodylicious · 31/12/2018 16:47

No idea but Flowers
Some neighbours are just shit

BrokenWing · 31/12/2018 16:48

New build estates are a nightmare with little room for extra cars.

The van driver isn't ideal either as he is on the curb and making it difficult, but not directly blocking your drive.

But YANBU, she is directly blocking your drive, you have asked her nicely. Is there anyone you can raise it with and ask them to put in something to prevent her parking? Council, 101, housing estate managers if still a very new build?

Violetroselily · 31/12/2018 16:48

Could you park where your partner usually parks, and he park on the drive? Not ideal but at least it would stop you having to take his car.

CatchingBabies · 31/12/2018 16:49

@violetroselily on the right hand side if I pull out I need to do a 1 million point turn to not scrape along the side of the van with next doors car preventing me from reversing back enough to get a decent enough swing in order to clear the van. The road is only just wide enough for 2 cars to pass, if the van wasn’t parked on the pavement it would block the entire road for example.

Are you able to take a photo looking down your road? From the first photo I think i could get your car out of your drive with full lock on and a bit of wiggling (which I do appreciate is not ideal)....

WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit · 31/12/2018 16:50

You say you are reversed as far back as possible - perhaps you need to stop that. Stop with your nose just on the pavement.

Do you have a 'midwife on call' sign for the dashboard? Use it.
When you're next on overnight call, I'd shove a note through the door (both of them) warning them that you will be knocking on their door and if they don't answer I'd be leaning on the horn until they show up. Oh I'm seething on your behalf.

Can you take photos and twitter them to your local councillor? Pointing out the deeds issue, asking their soon to be reelected arse what they can do to ensure your vote help you, a hardworking NHS HCP, to simply get to work to save those lives?

WiltedDaffs · 31/12/2018 16:50

Check your councils website. My council has a number I can call and if someone is blocking my drive, they’ll come out an give a ticket. Councils love it ‘cause they make money from it but not sure if they would do it for a road classed as private.

Hellohellohowareyou · 31/12/2018 16:50

Op have your roads been adopted by the council yet? If they have then contact them.

I’m actually pissed off for you, major CF’s!!!

Angrybird345 · 31/12/2018 16:51

Start knocking repeatedly on both houses..., selfish bastards! Could the council paint the lines on the road to indicate no parking?

SheStoodInTheStorm · 31/12/2018 16:53

I think the van is parked inconsiderately and the Audi is a CF.

However, just because you can just about turn right with a million point turn does not make it ok! Why shouldn't you be able to turn left?!

Some PP have some great ideas, hopefully someone will help.

SB1013 · 31/12/2018 16:53

Regardless of your job they are taking the piss!! How can they think this is acceptable?!

Santaisfastasleepatlast · 31/12/2018 16:54

I read on here a while ago if your vehicle is vital for work - in your case a LIFE, the police will attend to get it moved.

CatchingBabies · 31/12/2018 16:55

Thanks I will speak to the council in the new year and see if they can help. Tonight I’m parked across my own drive as I’m on call and I can see the neighbours being out / unable to drive as drunk. Neighbour isn’t home yet but I wonder what they will do when they get in as they cannot get to where they normally park with my car there and the narrowed road (and very high car scraping kerb) in front.

OP posts:
CatchingBabies · 31/12/2018 16:57

And to add no road markings yet as the road isn’t finished. The kerbs are so high and the road is yet to be resurfaced and made higher so I wonder if they plan to put markings in at that stage. Road also not adopted by council and no plans for council to adopt the road, it was a condition of planning permission that the road would be unadopted.

God they're taking the Mick. I mean, is this a shit bloke neighbour strutting his power because you're a woman? He won't do anything til he's forced. It's sorely tempting to go nuclear. Next time you're blocked in for a 3am birth, call the cops. They will sympathise given your job, and damn sure will give the little shit the hard word.

Hezz · 31/12/2018 16:57

I would pull my car right to the end of the drive do the Audi can't park there

Nottheduchessofcambridge · 31/12/2018 16:57

What a cf your neighbour is, parking partly accords your drive! I’d be so annoyed.

Hellohellohowareyou · 31/12/2018 16:57

We are also on a new build estate but having more problems with people parking on junctions forcing cars to drive on the wrong side of the road as they turn, hoping once the roads are adopted they will put down yellow lines

TotesEmoshTerri · 31/12/2018 16:58

Can't they just park further forward with the front half of their car on the pavement? Also, if you can orchestrate a day where you have to go out and call on them about ten times it might make them think twice

Jaguar2017 · 31/12/2018 17:00

Why people buy 'new builds' is beyond me. The houses are built (poorly) on top of each other and there is not enough room to swing a cat. (Inside or out). Hence the parking issues that always arise on new estates. There is never enough room for cars because the developers want to cram in as many houses as they can.
Happy New Year.

KittensAndChristmasCake · 31/12/2018 17:01

Next middle of the night call out ring the police and get them to sort it.

Yes, I'd definitely be calling the police next time. Tell them you're a midwife, you need to get out urgently but can't contact your inconsiderate bastard neighbours. Grrr this would wind me right up 🤬

TotesEmoshTerri · 31/12/2018 17:02

Why people buy 'new builds' is beyond me

Often better financing deals for people who can't really afford as much house as they need

JohnCRaven · 31/12/2018 17:02

If it's unadopted surely you can pay for an H bar but getting it enforced will be tricky.
