I know the rules so I did 1 better than a diagram, I got a photo.

My car is the grey one in the drive, silver car belongs to next door and grey van belongs to house across the road. They park like this all the time and claim I am not blocked in and I should be able to easily get out.

Am I missing something? My car is reversed back as far as it can go, it’s a narrow new build road so the van means I don’t have room to go out to the right and the car overlapping my drive stops me leaving to the left.

I’m a midwife and do on calls a lot, I am sick of having to knock on doors, which they usually don’t answer, and get someone to move so that I can attend whatever emergency I am being called to.

Sometimes people buy a house with one garage and one parking space because they have one or two cars and their kids are 2 and 4.

Amazingly 15 years later those DC are 17 and 19 and whilst their family house is still at a family house, they now have four cars.

🤷‍♀️ What do you do?

Ginger1982 · 31/12/2018 17:43

^tell the kids to use public transport! Do 17 and 19 year olds really need their own cars?

CripsSandwiches · 31/12/2018 17:47

Call the non emergency police number. I've done that when I was blocked in, no idea what happened but the car was quickly moved. If that doesn't work I'd register the dropped kerb with the council, my friend did that and after that point anyone who parked an inch over her drive someone came out and ticketed them.

CripsSandwiches · 31/12/2018 17:48

mayhrofen that's not their neighbours problem. If you now have more cars than spaces for them then either you move house or park further away, or the teenagers don't get their own cars.

sheepsheep · 31/12/2018 17:50

Is there realistically enough room for emergency services to gain access past the parked vehicles? Could an ambulance or fire engine get down there easily?

If not I would also be raising that issue with your local council. It really winds me up when people park so ridiculously that a car has to crawl slowly past, never mind a larger emergency service needing access. It used to happen a lot where we used to live...which was a council estate with a lot of elderly people who had regular ambulance call outs.

Your neighbour is a CF.

CatchingBabies · 31/12/2018 17:54

These are brand new houses, all built in the last 6 months. These people didn’t just suddenly have too many cars to park in their driveway, they’ve bought the house knowing they can’t fit them all. And I quite like my new build, we were restricted to new builds as that meant we could use the help to buy equity loan and the NHS sadly doesn’t pay enough to buy a house without government help but we chose a spacious well designed one with a decent sized garden and plenty of off road parking for our needs, it’s a shame the neighbours didn’t!

And no I have no more rights than any other people to access, midwives are not legally classed as emergency workers hence we use our own cars, don’t get a siren, can’t run lights etc. Because of course an unattended unplanned home birth NEVER results in an emergency situation!

@Jaguar2017 because of government assisted loans, location, choosing everything yourself and having something brand new that have a 10 year guarantee?

Feel free to come round and see my house. The rooms are 'bijou', I can hear my neighbour sneeze through the wall and there's no parking (I have to park in public car park down the road). It was built in the late 1700's.

itsbritneybiatches · 31/12/2018 17:56

Your neighbour is a twat.

Is your oh home tonight as you mentioned before about parking across your own drive and twat neighbors not being home yet...

RandomMess · 31/12/2018 18:00

Your Audi neighbour is an entitled CF Angry

NerrSnerr · 31/12/2018 18:07

We had a neighbour keep blocking us in when I was heavily pregnant. The police sent someone out to knock on their door (they were obviously home but ignoring my knocking). They haven't dared do it since.

AWishForWingsThatWork · 31/12/2018 18:09

The audi owner is a twat.

Take a pic of the car with reg plates and post it all over your local social media pages ... trust me, they exist. Also, your local police fb / twitter pages. Point out their cuntish unlawful parking blocking you on your drive is a regular event, and you're struggling to get to pregnant women in labour to help them deliver their babies! which is your job1

Jazzmin · 31/12/2018 18:18

I have almost the same problem, except the car overhanging my driveway is a work van. The community police said try to reason with neighbour myself as neighbour disputes are awful. Well, I have had to call the police about more serious matters with my neighbour so no lines of communication are left open. I looked into a white H - it is only granted when parking issues are caused by a school, church etc ( in my area at least) It is quite dangerous as I pull out onto a B road. Parking in his position isn’t always easy as he is a tradesman so tends to finish work before I do. If you find a solution, OP, let me know!

countrygirl99 · 31/12/2018 18:18

When I had a problem with a neighbour blocking me in I phoned the Police for advice . They said they couldn't do anything until I actually needed to get out. If the neighbour wouldn't move to phone the. When I pointed out this would be 5am they suggested I might want to get up extra early to allow time & "wouldn't that be a pity if your neighbour got woken very early". Neighbour actually phoned the police to complain about me banging on their door claiming harrassment and was told in no uncertain term I was following their advice. He was a nasty piece of work and kept shouting at me about parking until I flashed a dictaphone at him. Haven't had a peep from him since.

KittyMcTitty · 31/12/2018 18:21

This makes me mad on your behalf!!! Parks your car hanging out so they can’t do it.
Grrrr

agedknees · 31/12/2018 18:27

Retired midwife here. Someone on the midwifery staff must own an old, battered, worn out Land Rover? Wherever I have worked, someone’s owned a tank like this.

Ask to borrow it.

Ram the Audi!

Only kidding. Yanbu. He/she is a CF. Phone the non emergency police number and explain. Ask a community officer to have a word.

And thank you for being on call New Years Eve. Hope you don’t have to catch too many babies.

InkyAndBinky · 31/12/2018 18:31

That is one CF’er

DuringCommute · 31/12/2018 18:35

What a wanker! Totally over your dropped kerb!

Lifeofsmiley · 31/12/2018 18:38

I can’t believe he’s got the cheek to say ask the van to move hen he’s the one blocking your drive. I second ramming the Audi and I’m not kidding

anewyear · 31/12/2018 18:41

"Do 17 and 19 year olds need to drive"?
Well neither of mine drive yet, however we live rurally, nearest town being approx 8+ miles away and public transport is dire.
What, ginger1982 would you expect us to do?
Walk each day I guess Hmm

Ginger1982 · 31/12/2018 18:52

If you don't have room to park 4 cars without encroaching on your neighbours, move I guess.

agedknees · 31/12/2018 18:58

Ginger, think you’re on the wrong parking thread.

agedknees · 31/12/2018 18:58

Sorry misread, ignore.

CallMeRachel · 31/12/2018 19:04

Hmm, are the builders still selling plots on this estate?? If so bad press over bad road design and lack of parking will maybe make them get involved?

The van should not be parked on the pavement he's causing an obstruction to pedestrians, its also facing the wrong way.

Sometimes there are 'restrictive covenants' written into the deeds on new builds. Often they include not running business from home and not having any work vans parked at the address overnight. Can you double check with your purchasing Solicitor?

With regards to the Audi, that's well cheeky apart from the fact he's over hanging your access, he's also an unsightly thing to see outside your own window. Where do any visitors to your home park??

I think if it was me I'd either hire a Skip or buy a £500 car and park it there permanently.

I can't believe people are so dense and thoughtless as to but a new home without making sure there was a big enough driveway for the cars.

CrimpBrunette · 31/12/2018 19:07

Fuck me, I'm late to this parking thread! pulls up chair
RAM THE AUDI JUST DO IT
(kidding)

mommybear1 · 31/12/2018 19:14

@CrimpBrunette 👍🏻👏🏻 but no parking across your drive whilst not ideal maybe the temporary answer shockingly bad parking by the Audi Angry
