Parking one

I know the rules so I did 1 better than a diagram, I got a photo.

My car is the grey one in the drive, silver car belongs to next door and grey van belongs to house across the road. They park like this all the time and claim I am not blocked in and I should be able to easily get out.

Am I missing something? My car is reversed back as far as it can go, it’s a narrow new build road so the van means I don’t have room to go out to the right and the car overlapping my drive stops me leaving to the left.

I’m a midwife and do on calls a lot, I am sick of having to knock on doors, which they usually don’t answer, and get someone to move so that I can attend whatever emergency I am being called to.

Or cheaper yet, buy an old motorbike/scooter. It's cheaper to insure, tax and will take up less room so not cause you an obstruction when you park it where the Audi currently is.

Funnyface1 · 31/12/2018 19:32

Do something, anything to get rid of that car. I can't believe they are happy to overhang your driveway like that. And then to give you attitude about it? No thanks.

If I were you I'd be insane by now. Park there, buy a scrappy car to put there, ram it, whatever.

Total arseholes.

Bibijayne · 31/12/2018 19:37

101 job. The car preventing you leaving your property by parking across your dropped kerb is actually breaking the law.

Report every incidence they do it to 101.

Will cost.money, but you could consider hiring a removals company to impound it?

2019yet · 31/12/2018 19:41

Name and shame them on social media, and just keep calling 101, the Audi is a serious inconsiderate CF. The van owner is not much better.

I live on a new build estate, and the parking is a bloody pain, but most bar one household actually try to be considerate. They are being deliberately awful, time to take the kid gloves off.

A photo of the car/van - with a big sign saying "midwife blocked in yet again" - "can't get to my patients"..... and stick it on your Fb local pages.... name and shame.

BalthazarsAThirstyBitch · 31/12/2018 19:42

All new build estates round my way seem to have their own Facebook pages, I’d take some photos and shame them on there. Until they change their ways I’d be parking on the road in front of the drive.

Peachyk · 31/12/2018 19:59

Even better.... post their number plate on here. The daily mail has much wider coverage Grin

If they have two cars, what type is the other one?

That's a pretty large Audi Q5?

They should park that on their drive and put a smaller car if they have one out front but as far over as they can.

They obviously don't give two hoots.

Sexnotgender · 31/12/2018 20:06

That’s incredibly cheeky fuckery! I’d definitely be parking across my own drive in this situation.

tttigress · 31/12/2018 20:30

Quite interesting they can afford an Audi, but not a house with 2 car parking spaces!

Just one point, everyone is saying this is bad because the OP is a midwife.

Surely any householder should expect to not have a car parked across their drive irrespective of profession?

AngelOfDeathNix · 31/12/2018 20:58

Can't believe that it's got to page 5 and no-one has suggested that the car is puuuuushed out of the way!

Seriously though, I would go and knock on their doors now telling them to move and reiterate that you are on call and the consequences if they don't move the car. If they refuse, I'd give 101 a call to seek their advice and I'd then be tempted to knock on their door at 3.30 in the morning asking them to move the car so that you can get out to answer the call that has come in. Whilst you have no priority (unfortunately) as an on-call, I found that putting a large sign in the front of my car stating NHS worker on call did stop people blocking me in.

woolduvet · 31/12/2018 21:27

I know you said you're not an emergency service. The police helped someone who's van was an emergency household service. So I think you'd be looked upon very favourably.

Paradyning · 31/12/2018 21:32

The OP has said many times it's an unadopted road. So stop suggesting the council. They won't give a flying fuck.

ISmellBabies · 31/12/2018 21:47

I don't know the answer, but if you haven’t started letting the air out of the audi's tyres every time yet, you deserve a bloody medal.

ChrisjenAvasarala · 31/12/2018 21:48

I don't know if it's worth the risk or if you'd even be willing to do it, but next time there's an emergency call out and he's parked across your drive... take a picture with a date stamp and then purposely scraped your car along the back of his as you pull out
Obviously you're damaging your own car, and risking getting in trouble but you'd have the proof that you had an emergency call out and the proof that he parked over your drive illegally... He might not want to pursue it since he was illegally parked in the first place. And the damage would teach him a lesson. Just a dangerous gamble.

UhUhUhDennis · 31/12/2018 22:04

I can't get past that you knocked and ask the Audi driver to move their car and they had the fucking cheek to tell you to go and ask the van to move instead Shock and you did!!!! Wtf!! You definitely need to be more forceful he's overhanging your driveway by a massive amount.

Experiment627 · 31/12/2018 22:13

OP you have my sympathies but I ADORE PARKING THREADS!!!! WHAT A JOY!!!! 😍😍😍😍

Foodylicious · 01/01/2019 09:43

I would put a large sign in the windscreen saying

'ON CALL MIDWIFE, PLEASE TAKE CARE NOT TO BLOCK ME IN'

Or similar.

Hopefully it might shame them in to not doing it as all your other neighbours can see the sign too?

pinkstripeycat · 01/01/2019 10:05

Be careful. Letting someone’s tyres down can be seen as criminal damage (I have just confirmed worth a police officer). Also a woman died in a car crash a few years ago when someone let down her tyres and she drove the car without realising.

I was replying to your questionConfused

"Do 17 & 19 year olds need to drive"

Yes, in some cases.

The point I was trying to get across was, with public transport only running a few times each way to our nearest town, that it doesn't take into account those that work before 9am and after 6pm.

Where did I say any thing about encroaching on our neighbours, because we haven't enough room for 4 cars?
We are luckily that we do have room for 4 cars, as we have "2 driveways",
So no we won't be moving anytime soon.

Happy New Year to you

chocolateworshipper · 01/01/2019 13:12

Is there a local rugby team OP?

itsbritneybiatches · 01/01/2019 13:14

Just me but I'd be knocking at all hours and say I had a call out whether I did or not.

itsbritneybiatches · 01/01/2019 13:14

Every single night.

Ginger1982 · 01/01/2019 13:40

Exactly anewyear. You have room for all your cars. Obviously people who have chosen to live where the OP is and have multiple cars don't. I meant 'you' in general, not 'you' specifically. If 'you' live in a house that doesn't have room for 4 cards yet 'you' insist on having them, thus encroaching on neighbours, then 'you' should consider moving.

Ariela · 01/01/2019 14:19

Could you realign the edge of your driveway, or add some paving so it comes towards the window more? Meaning if blocked in you could reverse up there and drive out to the right easier if you had to.
