AIBU to want to find regular boys' jeans?

Rubusfruticosus · 31/12/2018 09:51

DS will only wear regular jeans, no skinny fit. He needs a 26" waist, 28" length, but with pockets that will fit a 5" smartphone. Not child size pockets, his phone isn't smaller because he is! He is currently wearing Next, which have decent pockets, but are really too big on the waist.

Any recommendations?

Maybe IABU then? Just looking for a size 12 in length that fit on the waist, with full size pockets. DS is average height and weight so I don't know why it is so difficult to find something that fits?

Buy him a belt!

Rubusfruticosus · 31/12/2018 11:56

They have adjustable waists already, but they just look silly pulled in so far. He needs jeans that fit.

You might find some in the Primark men's department although I think the smallest waist measurement might be 28"

donkir · 31/12/2018 11:59

H&M do good jeans

CoughLaughFart · 31/12/2018 12:00

Topman do 26XS in some styles.

donkir · 31/12/2018 12:01

They start at 27 waist

SoupDragon · 31/12/2018 12:01

Have a look at Topman. These are available in a 26XS (if you scroll down) which is the size you want. They're slim fit, not skinny.

Thanks for the replies. H&M look very good for when he's a bit older, still too big at the moment. Topman are more than I wanted to pay and I don't know if he will wear slim fit, he likes regular straight leg jeans. I think he may just have to stick with Next for now, it's just annoying that when he needs to go up a size for length, the waist is then much too wide, when boys grow up like weeds.

That's why you need to look at the smaller men's sizes I think. They have a variety of waist/leg lengths to get the right combination.

flumpybear · 01/01/2019 08:47

I
Bought some recently for my 6 YO DS from Asda, Jasper Conrad from Debenhams and another couple of Debenhams makes I can't recall now. Shop assistant said look out for jeans and trousers with turn up bottoms as they probably wouldn't be skinny jeans

donkir · 01/01/2019 08:58

I'd try H&M as even though it starts from 27 waist their sizing is crap and I know I've had to size up for both my boys in there as they come up small.

cowfacemonkey · 01/01/2019 09:03

River island men’s jeans. Their children’s range only goes up to age 12 so the men’s sizes start very small.

cowfacemonkey · 01/01/2019 09:03

They start at 26 inch waist

Rubusfruticosus · 01/01/2019 09:14

Ok, good to know they might actually be smaller in H&M. I'll take him to have a look.

Uniqlo have regular leg jeans. I haven’t tried them though!

Overrunwithlego · 01/01/2019 09:21

Oh I’m with you OP. My 11 year old ds hates skinny jeans (as do I!). We tried Next, M&S, Gap, John Lewis. All of them only had skinny or super skinny styles. It seems ridiculous that so few retailers are doing regular fit jeans for boys. Finally picked up a pair in Sainsbury’s yesterday.

ILoveMyCaravan · 01/01/2019 09:21

Is he wearing jeans from the kids range in Next? They do his size in the men's range which may fit him better. My DS is also skinny and the men's 26" waist fit really well.

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 01/01/2019 09:22

Bought ds1 a pair of jeans in Boden sale recently he is long legged and very slim. I’d tried everywhere else so decided to give them a go. They are great They have adjustable waist but it’s the first jeans I’ve never had to take in so far that they look uncomfortable. They come in different lengths as well so I was able to get closer to the rightbsized waist and buy long length ones. And the pockets are huge! His massive phone fits in the pocket without any sticking out the top I am very jealous of the pockets.

thismeansnothing · 01/01/2019 09:37

GAP always great for jeans

Rubusfruticosus · 01/01/2019 09:39

River island look ideal, but £35 seems a lot when I'm used to paying children's prices. Still, he doesn't wear many clothes, just his favorites over and over so it may be worth paying more for something that fits well.

Good to know that Boden have proper pockets, you can't tell if you're buying online. I think all shops should have them on their older boys' range.

He's wearing the regular fit Next boys' jeans in a 12. They only appear to have skinny styles in a 26" mens' though.

SoupDragon · 01/01/2019 09:48

It might be worth trying them on as they may not be as skinny on a child as they are on a man. Unless he has chunky legs! Slim might work from that respect.

My boys wear tesco jeans as they are normal cut

Largepiecesofcrookedwood · 01/01/2019 09:59

DS shops in H&M which would appear to do a variety of unusual sizes.
We've also resorted to the women's section for things like walking trousers. You need to be scrupulously careful that there's no concealed flash of pink or smattering of glitter, but if not there's no difference.

Rubusfruticosus · 01/01/2019 10:06

SoupDragon Good point. I just know he won't wear children's slim fit but he hasn't tried men's.
