An old friend thinks that 2 hours is a long way to drive to meet up for the day (it would be 2 hours back as well).

I don't think 2 hours is bad if it's only very occasionally and if this is a half way point between us.

Would you drive 2 hours to meet an old friend a couple of times a year? Or AIBU?

Oh ok. Then no I wouldn't. Too far, Id rather overnight.

Too far for me. Overnight yes. Or I'd get a train.

abacucat · 31/12/2018 12:05

And if your friend did not want to pay for a hotel overnight?

MinorRSole · 31/12/2018 12:21

2 hours isn't much imo, I would and have done it - certainly not something I would class as an overnight stay. For me an overnight stay is when you can't get there and back in a day. Out at 7 and back by 7 gives you 9-5 - no more than a work commute.

I have to say, I'm genuinely surprised at the number of people who think 2 hours there and back is too far for one day, for me it really wouldn't be an issue at all. Especially as we're not talking about doing it every weekend, but only 2 or 3 times a year.

It’s not far at all in my opinion.

Too much for me these days, particularly in winter. Maybe on a summer's day when it would be light on the way home, but even then....
