Duck face!

bernadettesmurf · 30/12/2018 00:50

I know not a big deal and if I don't like it I don't have to look. BUT!!!! What is wrong with smiling???????

Received a lovely photo collage canvas of my dnephew, wife and 3dc. I have a wall in my dining room just for family photos, it's not everyone's cup of tea but I love it, every photo has dns wife pouting like a duck! Of course it will go up but I wish she was smiling instead of pouting!!!!

My husband’s cousin pulls the most ridiculous duck face pout on every picture. People tell him how ridiculous he looks but he still does it every time.

recklessruby · 30/12/2018 10:58

Oh God I hate this! My dd 24 is a pretty girl but she and her friends all do that stupid duck face in Facebook pictures.
Happily on holiday with me and things like that I have lots of her smiling.
I wish people knew how ridiculous it looks!

SuchAToDo · 30/12/2018 11:10

It does look silly I have to admit and i do wonder why people post such pictures when they look so much nicer smiling...but maybe they think they look better/sexier/face looks more defined etc when they are doing duck face?

Santaisfastasleepatlast · 30/12/2018 11:13

Is her name Victoria??

Huntawaymama · 30/12/2018 11:14

I hate it. I also hate when people smile without showing their teeth, I think it's really unnatural

Drogosnextwife · 30/12/2018 11:15

It's hard to look at, make some cringe.

Birdial · 30/12/2018 11:16

Duck face is awful, but Huntawaymama some people are self conscious of their teeth, I am and don't smile with them

FlamingJuno · 30/12/2018 11:17

DH does that ridiculous two finger peace sign ✌🏻 in every photo like fucking Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr do. I hate it, we always shout at him but it's like he can't help it. It spoils every photo he's in.

Oysterbabe · 30/12/2018 11:17

I have a friend who does this too. I find it utterly bizarre.

SylvanianFamiliesNurserySet · 30/12/2018 11:19

I also hate when people smile without showing their teeth, I think it's really unnatural.

I’ve been criticised for this since childhood Hmm

Then I had children and, lo and behold, they both have silly grins too.

Haters gonna hate 🤷‍♀️

NorthernKnickers · 30/12/2018 11:28

Pouting/duckface is ridiculous. I hate it! But @Huntawaymama why do you think people need to show their teeth? That's not necessarily a 'natural' smile! A natural smile is however you smile, surely? With or without teeth. My natural smile is definitely without teeth, unless I'm laughing. I'm very self conscious about smiling, and a naturally shy person, so a big 'toothy' smile would look ridiculous on me 🤷‍♀️. Each to their own.

TulipsInbloom1 · 30/12/2018 11:31

Who would even want a photo collage canvas of their nephew, his wife and their 3 kids? What a bonkers gift to start with.

GrapesAndCheese · 30/12/2018 11:32

Ha yes duck face is awful, I have to agree. Though I also have a terrible smile and always seem to have a huge, Wallace and gromit style grin in every photo of me when I just think I'm smiling normally Grin

domton · 30/12/2018 11:33

I don't smile showing my teeth, it would look like I was grimacing. It would be very unnatural for me. Just a different shaped face/ mouth maybe? You'd think very differently if me if I smiled showing my teeth, it would be most odd :)

As for the ridiculous pout thing, yep. Agreed. They are going to be do embarrassed looking at these photos in 30 years time.

GrapesAndCheese · 30/12/2018 11:33

Clearly OP @TulipsInbloom1 "not everyone's cup of tea but I love it"

PikaPikaTink · 30/12/2018 11:37

Dp's daughter, 11, has started to do this ....

Hoppinggreen · 30/12/2018 11:40

My teen and her mates do a wide eyed surprised look on photos, slightly better than the duckface but still annoying

KirstyAllsoppsFatterTwin · 30/12/2018 11:41

If her gob is full of filler she probably couldn't smile properly if she wanted to.

brizzledrizzle · 30/12/2018 11:49

Duck face is awful, who is going to want to look at a load of photos all with duck face when they are older?

bobstersmum · 30/12/2018 11:51

I am not a fan of any posed photo really, I think photos are best when taken in the moment so to speak. We have a couple of collages of the children and they are sort of snapshots of real life. I hate selfies in general but the duck face is ridiculous.

marmiteloversunite · 30/12/2018 11:51

I find the tongue out selfie even more annoying. My young DN (11) does this and it looks horrible. Seems to be a thing with that age group.

supersop60 · 30/12/2018 11:52

I saw someone recently who'd had lip filler to giver her a permanent pout. Unfortunately, she couldn't properly close her lips.
I'm with you Op - just smile fgs.

Nousernameforme · 30/12/2018 11:59

As the dc get older I am noticing their friends are similar. You get all these happy smiling photos on their parents fb for years to be replaced by pouty teens who just look pissed off. I thought how awful it looked in all the christmas photos
My lot run from cameras so we didn't get any photos of them.

DistanceCall · 30/12/2018 12:14

I also hate when people smile without showing their teeth, I think it's really unnatural.

When I smile naturally, my teeth don't show. That's the way my mouth is shaped.

ChesterGreySideboard · 30/12/2018 12:20

I teach reception so I’m often photographing the children. Mostly it’s more candid shots when they are playing, but sometimes I’ll get them to hold up some work or a model they’ve made. Some children will do a duck face and pose for the picture. They are 4.
