to think Duchess Kate is worryingly thin?

Just saw pictures of the Royal Family coming out of Church at Christmas and was struck by how incredibly thin Kate is, especially around the waist and hips.

I'm sure I will be accused of just feeling jealous, but honestly I would be concerned if I saw an 18-y-o girl that skinny, let alone a woman in her 30s with three children. I can't imagine how severely you have to diet to be that thin so soon after giving birth. I know she is naturally slim but even so, I am worried the constant media attention is having a bad effect on her self-image/mental health.

Really? Yeah, really? In a gym

Correct. Really look closely at the photos online of Kate and think about what she would look like if you saw her in the flesh.

thebaronetofcockburn · 29/12/2018 22:52

There's slim and there's unhealthy.

Obviously healthy enough to conceive, carry to term and bear an 8lbs baby a couple of years later Hmm

AutoFilled · 29/12/2018 22:54

Though I am a bit confused about the poster who said they weigh less than Kate.

Lol I’m not that poster but I’m 100% sure I weigh less because I’m short Grin

TalkinPeace · 29/12/2018 22:54

Yup. Did that. Up close.
She's normal.

mistermagpie · 29/12/2018 22:54

I'm quite thin, BMI is 19 and I'm 5'8" for reference. I'm not as thin as Kate but do have a similar figure with broad shoulders and relatively narrow hips. I'm 38 and have had two children in the last three years. Fair enough I am not quite as thin as her, but I'm by no means out of the ordinary - not everyone balloons when they have kids or has to have incredible discipline to be slim. I don't have any discipline with food at all!

Anyway she's obviously not 'too thin' to do her 'job' or bear children, so what is she 'too thin' for?

Gosh, I never considered wasting time looking at photos that can and are often digitally altered and speculate upon them and the people whom I will never meet in the flesh. Nope. But hey, if it makes you feel better about yourself, crack on.

formerbabe · 29/12/2018 22:55

She's normal

I didn't say she was abnormal Confused.

Loka123 · 29/12/2018 22:56

Hi,
I think while she's generally always been very thin, she's not "worryingly thin" as it's just her shape - have a look at pictures of her sister Pippa, her brother James and especially her mother Carole - they are all stick thin - it's probably a genetic trait esp. as her mother who has also had 3 kids seem to always look stick thin in every historical pic of her too.

In this country esp considering she's in the royal family, it's very unlikely a person can be ill from being "too thin" aside from anorexia etc, whereas it's different in poorer countries.

formerbabe · 29/12/2018 22:56

And what does this comment mean?

Batteriesallgone · 29/12/2018 22:56

She’s looked quite thin after all her children. She also breastfed. The connection is obvious. Not everyone gets thin from breastfeeding but some do - in fact some lose an awful lot of weight and struggle to put any on (not me though, shakes fist at child)

NextIssue · 29/12/2018 22:57

@RiverTam Say what now? Confused

to think Duchess Kate is worryingly thin?
WinterfellWench · 29/12/2018 22:57

No I disagree. Although I think she HAS looked a bit gaunt (and a bit thin) in the past. She looks nice right now IMO.

As someone said, so many people are obese now, that someone who is a 'normal' slim, looks skinny to many. Kate looks good.

Looks like she was getting on well with Meghan too. THAT will annoy some people! Wink

Loka123 · 29/12/2018 22:58

Although of course, you could see that Kate had dieted a lot for her wedding to William (as many brides too) as she was the thinnest she could be at that time - you could almost see bones where her chest should be.

Buttercupsandaisies · 29/12/2018 22:58

I don't get this - she's naturally thin- stuff. She really isn't. If you look at old photos of her she's a size 10 easily compared to now where she'd push a size 6!

At uni she was a lot bigger - not fat in any way but defo stronger and fitter looking

thebaronetofcockburn · 29/12/2018 22:58

And what does this comment mean?

Um, exactly what it says.

WinterfellWench · 29/12/2018 22:59

Methinks the green eyed monster is attacking some women on this thread. Wink Tut tut...... whatever happened to the sisterhood?!

thebaronetofcockburn · 29/12/2018 22:59

She’s looked quite thin after all her children.

She also had HG in all her pregnancies so it's not surprising she might be thinner after giving birth than before.

formerbabe · 29/12/2018 23:00

thebaronetofcockburn

You said this..

But hey, if it makes you feel better about yourself, crack on

What gave you the impression I need to feel better about myself? I feel just fine ta!

raindancemumma · 29/12/2018 23:01

WinterfellWench quite 🙌

thebaronetofcockburn · 29/12/2018 23:02

Exactly, Winterfell. Just so!

Lougle · 29/12/2018 23:02

I'm not sure BMI is all that, tbh. I'm 5'8" with a BMI of 20 (60kg) but I'm a size 10 and my belly sticks out now that I've had 3 children, because my hips have widened. Before I had my 3rd baby, I was seeing the GP and being investigated for Marfan's because they couldn't get my weight up above 49kg Hmm How life changes...

formerbabe · 29/12/2018 23:03

And what a lot of the posters on this thread are doing is what angsty, middle class, privately educated girls used to do at school... subtly try to put down women who aren't stick thin by saying that thin women aren't that thin, they're just average and don't put any effort into it...therefore if you're not thin, it's because you're a greedy cow.

It's sad this attitude follows them to adulthood.

GenerationSnowflake · 29/12/2018 23:04

I wish she was known for something else than her looks, she is supposed to "represent" the country, whatever that means Hmm, but it's refreshing to have a few slim women doing the front pages. The be proud of your curves movement to promote obesity is tiresom and VERY unhealthy.

formerbabe · 29/12/2018 23:05

it's refreshing to have a few slim women doing the front pages

Yes, there's so few thin women in the public eye...said no one ever.

GenerationSnowflake · 29/12/2018 23:05

therefore if you're not thin, it's because you're a greedy cow

well, being thin and toned does require commitment and work, so they have a point. No one gets toned by seating on their sofa.
