to think Duchess Kate is worryingly thin?

Just saw pictures of the Royal Family coming out of Church at Christmas and was struck by how incredibly thin Kate is, especially around the waist and hips.

I'm sure I will be accused of just feeling jealous, but honestly I would be concerned if I saw an 18-y-o girl that skinny, let alone a woman in her 30s with three children. I can't imagine how severely you have to diet to be that thin so soon after giving birth. I know she is naturally slim but even so, I am worried the constant media attention is having a bad effect on her self-image/mental health.

Teenage girls are often very slim like that but rarely women in their thirties.

This is really strange to me. Where I live there are many very obese or just plain fat people but also very slim and fit people. And the women I know in their 40s and 50s who are fit and slim are easily as slim as she is. If we didn't know her, no one would really pass comment on her other than to say "she's very fit isn't she". My sister is pretty much her exact shape and always has been - effortlessly. People will say "oh you are lucky to keep your figure" but no one thinks she is too thin.

louny · 29/12/2018 22:10

Okay maybe IABU...I used to be very close to someone with an eating disorder so I'm kind of paranoid about how much other people eat...

I'm not saying she is too thin full stop...just that she is incredibly thin for someone who recently gave birth and I am worried she has gone on some extreme diet due to media pressure.

Obviously she is a very beautiful and stylish woman and if she's genuinely happy then good for her.

I pass women like here everyday here in the UK. And fat women and in between women. I don't worry about them usually as I don't know them!

JudasPrudy · 29/12/2018 22:11

She's very thin but I wouldn't cry if I woke up looking like her.
Bet Megs got a thread on here about her annoying in laws at Christmas.

WorraLiberty · 29/12/2018 22:12

I can't imagine how severely you have to diet to be that thin so soon after giving birth.

I can't work out how you can make an breathtakingly ignorant statement like that, and follow it up with I know she is naturally slim

Confused Confused

RCohle · 29/12/2018 22:12

I think she's just tall and slender - and we've got used to people being overweight. She's had three healthy children so I doubt she's significantly underweight.

formerbabe · 29/12/2018 22:12

All the people who are saying she's naturally slim and looks perfectly normal. Do you honestly believe she isn't working hard to be that weight/size?

dayswithaY · 29/12/2018 22:13

I am very slim, always have been. Constantly being asked by people what diet I am on, how much exercise I do. Some people are just slim the same way some people are fat.

WorraLiberty · 29/12/2018 22:14

She hasn't 'recently' given birth.

The baby's 8 months old.

Are you just as paranoid about people with EDs that make them fat, whenever you see a fat person?

It must be exhausting for you.

RCohle · 29/12/2018 22:14

People act like there has been huge media pressure on Kate to slim down but any comments about her size I have ever seen have said she is too slim.

Orchiddingme · 29/12/2018 22:14

She is very very slim and slimmer now than when in her early twenties which after having three children is basically down to a restricted diet and working out a lot which she does have time to do. She doesn't look drawn in her face as I think she's had fillers, there were photos last year of them 'settling' in and she looked like a chipmunk for a while. She is exceptionally thin for someone who has had three children and I'm sure she works hard to stay that way. I don't think she is 'too thin' as she looks pretty healthy and has a busy schedule which she seems to cope with.

SerenDippitty · 29/12/2018 22:15

Some people are just slim the same way some people are fat.

But nobody is “just fat” according to Mumsnet.

mimibunz · 29/12/2018 22:15

I can’t believe you actively think about this and worry. Don’t you have a neighbor to spy on instead?

RebeccaWrongDaily · 29/12/2018 22:16

she's had 3 children in 5 years, i am fairly sure she's fully functioning, exceptionally healthy, slim, toned- she looks fabulous. It's her job to, look at people like posh spice (have they 4 kids now?) Katie Price who's had 5? Heidi Klum who's mid 40's and has 4 kids (i think??)

You don't have to turn into a heffalump post kids.

Cherries101 · 29/12/2018 22:16

She’s not ‘naturally thin’. She’s tall, smokes, and obviously restricts her diet. If she were naturally thin her face wouldn’t look so haggard.

WorraLiberty · 29/12/2018 22:17

All the people who are saying she's naturally slim and looks perfectly normal. Do you honestly believe she isn't working hard to be that weight/size?

Yes I do.

I, and many other people I know who didn't weigh much before pregnancy, weighed even less after birth without trying at all.

In fact my Niece became quite underweight and struggled for ages to put weight on.

Not everyone who is slim, is that way because they diet.

Just as not everyone who is fat is that way because they 'stuff their faces'.

jessstan2 · 29/12/2018 22:17

No, she looks like a fit, healthy young woman to me.

megletthesecond · 29/12/2018 22:18

No. She's in well tailored clothes and looks after herself.
We really have lost sight of a fit body shape.

userofthiswebsite · 29/12/2018 22:19

Well, I for one, would love to look like her.

Though I am a bit Confused about the poster who said they weigh less than Kate.

How does anyone (except Kate herself) know how much she weighs?

Nothininmenoggin · 29/12/2018 22:19

She looks amazing but she has always looked like this, tall and slender. It's the way she is, no mad diet just healthy eating with exercise and a mum of three.

formerbabe · 29/12/2018 22:20

It's ok to think she looks fine...I think she looks amazing.

But please don't pretend that she's not working hard to achieve it. I imagine she works out and has a very restrictive diet. Very, very few women in their thirties, after having children are naturally that thin.

Hell, in my twenties, I ate one meal a day to stay at a curvy size 10....God knows how little I'd have to eat to be as thin as Kate?!

WorraLiberty · 29/12/2018 22:20

Cherries101 how do you know she smokes?

SerenDippitty · 29/12/2018 22:21

She looks amazing but she has always looked like this, tall and slender.

No she hasn’t. She was a stone heavier at college and looked all the better for it.

foxessocks · 29/12/2018 22:21

I'm slimmer now than I was before having my two children. I don't exercise a huge amount and I eat plenty. My BMI says I'm a bit underweight but I would say I'm perfectly healthy. I think people are being a bit harsh about her appearance tbh. She looks fine to me.

Sarahandduck18 · 29/12/2018 22:21

I don’t know any mums with 3 dcs in their late 30s who are that slim.

I also don’t know anyone who is thinner in middle age than late teens, like Kate.
