to think Duchess Kate is worryingly thin?

Just saw pictures of the Royal Family coming out of Church at Christmas and was struck by how incredibly thin Kate is, especially around the waist and hips.

I'm sure I will be accused of just feeling jealous, but honestly I would be concerned if I saw an 18-y-o girl that skinny, let alone a woman in her 30s with three children. I can't imagine how severely you have to diet to be that thin so soon after giving birth. I know she is naturally slim but even so, I am worried the constant media attention is having a bad effect on her self-image/mental health.

posh smokes like a chimbley (or did not so long ago)
A what???

Batteriesallgone · 29/12/2018 22:29

I agree with the pp who said part of the reason she looks so good is tailored clothes.

I imagine that also accounts for the pre and post ‘joining the family’ look - really excellent tailoring can easily make you appear as though you’ve lost a dress size.

I can't imagine how severely you have to diet to be that thin so soon after giving birth.

I walked out of the hospital after each birth weighing 120 pounds or less and I lost some more in the subsequent days. I didn't diet.

thesnapandfartisinfallible · 29/12/2018 22:30

She looks healthy enough to me. Maybe it's just because we're all used to her being pregnant.

GenerationSnowflake · 29/12/2018 22:30

lots of my friends are easy still a size 8

that's not that slim anymore, the sizes have changed so much that the really slim women need to go to teenager sizes, an 8 today is the 12-14 of 30 years ago!

ttheycantalk · 29/12/2018 22:30

I don't think she has narrow hips. She has a naturally small waist in relation to her hips. A good waist to hip ration and that's supposed to be a good sign {fertility wise)

bibbitybobbityyhat · 29/12/2018 22:31

Given that the camera adds 7 to 10lb then yes I would say she is unusually thin and a bit underweight, as are so many upper middle class women these days. I'm not confusing them with the more natuarally slim people of the 70s and 80s (am old enough to remember when very few average people were overweight). Kate's weight loss since she was younger is a bit worrying.

JinglingHellsbells · 29/12/2018 22:31

@HildaZelda

I agree. I am roughly your size too but I have fat as well.

The red coat she wore to church was lovely but her waist was tiny and her face is very hollow.

If she put on half a stone she'd look healthier.

Don't see how the comments about her looking 'happy' are relevant.

FGS- is she supposed to look miserable in public when every camera is on her? Of course she's going to smile!

ttheycantalk · 29/12/2018 22:31

waist to hip ratio, not ration.

thebaronetofcockburn · 29/12/2018 22:32

How come you never see threads along the line of 'Prince William is really starting to show his age. He's far too bald and he looked so much better when he was 18!' or 'Harry's got a really boxy shape and his legs look far too thin to carry it. He's really starting to look haggard like his grandfather. I worry'?

WhiffOfBath · 29/12/2018 22:32

I am too thin. So is Kate Middleton. Not sure that this helps, but it's true.

GenerationSnowflake · 29/12/2018 22:33

It's not just good tayloring, she is really skinny.
She looked absolutely amazing in this dress. When even someone with her legs look better with longer skirts and dresses, it says a lot about other women who should hide their knees and fat tights, but I disgress.

Ivegotthree · 29/12/2018 22:33

I agree OP. Way too thin.

I am in my 40s with 3 DC and am slim (so not envious) but I saw the pics of her in the red coat and thought she looked way too thin.

ttheycantalk · 29/12/2018 22:33

but her waist was tiny

Jeez, it's good to have a small waist, especially if you want children and the woman's had three, so it goes to show she is healthy. How can people not know this?

Thisismyhappyface · 29/12/2018 22:33

The thinnest I've been as an adult was when I was still breastfeeding at 8-12 months. I was a good stone and a half lighter than my previous thinnest weight, and was a small size 8 as opposed to an average 10. So certainly possible to be thinner as a 30 something than as a teen.

Helps who with what? Grin

raindancemumma · 29/12/2018 22:34

Wow. What in the actual f.... !?! Just wow.

EmeraldShamrock · 29/12/2018 22:35

HildaZelda Snap weight. I would have thought Kate was a slim size 10. Maybe the camera adds 10lbs. Wink

blackteasplease · 29/12/2018 22:35

@NextIssue I have read the thread! As you can see from the timings that last post is an x-post. I've posted more than once on this thread!

Bababoo13 · 29/12/2018 22:35

I agree with the pp. I think her face looks older than she is

MissEliza · 29/12/2018 22:35

My dh has zero interest in the Royal family so I was very surprised to see him shove a picture of KM in my face yesterday saying 'she's way too thin' (And he loves skinny chicks!) She must have iron discipline to keep her weight down like that.

SylvanianFamiliesNurserySet · 29/12/2018 22:36

I know! Not that I think for a minute that it would be a good thing to critique men minutely in the way we do for women, obviously. But the way we pull women to shreds is outrageous.

BishopBrennansArse · 29/12/2018 22:37

Too thin imho. I'm hoping those surrounding the RF have learned lessons from her mil and will know if intervention becomes necessary.

girlonatrain19 · 29/12/2018 22:37

She's always been quite slim naturally I think anyway, but I agree some women take it a few pounds too far- and it shows as you age unfortunately! She could do with a little extra on her, but it's her body, her rules. We shouldn't judge.

anniehm · 29/12/2018 22:38

She's slim not thin. If I had a chef to whip me up lovely healthy food, a gym, personal trainer, well cut clothes and perfectly fitting underwear I just might be her shape - but I don't so it's cheese and crackers for dinner and Asda underwear for me!
