to think Duchess Kate is worryingly thin?

Just saw pictures of the Royal Family coming out of Church at Christmas and was struck by how incredibly thin Kate is, especially around the waist and hips.

I'm sure I will be accused of just feeling jealous, but honestly I would be concerned if I saw an 18-y-o girl that skinny, let alone a woman in her 30s with three children. I can't imagine how severely you have to diet to be that thin so soon after giving birth. I know she is naturally slim but even so, I am worried the constant media attention is having a bad effect on her self-image/mental health.

Is lean the new word for thin?
No, Lean just means not carrying fat.
Chris Hemsworth as Thor is lean for example Grin

Schmoobarb · 31/12/2018 17:15

I also think she looks gaunt/tired but then she does have 3 kids. I’d rather look like her than be a fatty like me for sure.

Schmoobarb · 31/12/2018 17:17

This baffles me - the astonishment at her size. I live in the USA and I see women her size every day of the week. I have friends who have had children who are as slim as her. Is it really that rare in the UK to see a normal to thin woman?

Given you live in the fattest country on the planet it can’t be more common to see slim women than it is here.

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 31/12/2018 17:23

She looks fine, leave the poor bloody woman alone.

canigetaliein · 31/12/2018 17:28

Chris Hemsworth as Thor is lean for example I get it, but it’s not a word I would associate if that makes sense. To me he looks ripped, toned, strong. I see lean as more weak. He looks good though!

canigetaliein · 31/12/2018 17:29

anyway off to stuff my face & party 😁

Ta1kinPeace · 31/12/2018 17:30

Lean just means low in fat.
Jack Sprat and all that

Kikita · 31/12/2018 17:33

Lean beef mince and all that

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 31/12/2018 17:42

This thread is far more palatable if we are going to discuss Chris Hemsworth.

RiverTam · 31/12/2018 17:43

It's completely subjective, though, one person's lean is another person's gaunt.

Kikita · 31/12/2018 17:47

I think Chris Hemsworth is worryingly muscular.

Just saw pictures of the Avengers cast coming off set at Christmas and was struck by how incredibly muscley Chris is, especially around the arms and shoulders.

I'm sure I will be accused of just feeling jealous, but honestly I would be concerned if I saw an 18-y-o boy that muscley, let alone a man in his 30s with three children. I can't imagine how severely you have to diet to be that muscular so soon after your wife has given birth. I know he is naturally big but even so, I am worried the constant media attention is having a bad effect on his self-image/mental health.

Lean :
Davina McCall
Chloe Madeley
Robert Downey Junior
Brad Pitt
Helena Christiansen
Patrick Stewart

Gaunt :
Lady Victoria Hervey

I'm just going to prove "RiverTam's* point by saying that I disagree! She's thin but looks good. I love her figure!

Ta1kinPeace · 31/12/2018 17:57

LOL Kikita
TBH I could not think of anybody off hand who is currently in the eye of the paps who is really underweight
and yes, she is less muscled than many
but still a damn sight healthier weight than most of us !

HundredMileStare · 31/12/2018 17:57

I also don’t know anyone who is thinner in middle age than late teens, like Kate.

This is such a strange comment. Most of my friends including myself are noticeably slimmer now in our late twenties- mid thirties than we were as teens. Looking back at photos we were all very "puppy fat"ish. Probably because we didn't have kids to run around after and pay for so we spend week nights eating takeaways and weekends either drunk or sleeping it off.

I was probably a large 10 small 12 in my late teens and am now a large 6 small 8. I don't work out or particularly watch what I eat, I'm just never off my feet and I don't have a big appetite. So I'd definitely call myself "naturally slim"- > I do fuck all in the way of effort to maintain it.

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 31/12/2018 17:58

Oh bloody hell now we are worrying about Thor. He's an actor he gets big for certain roles - he's not always that shredded. I think his self image is just fine.

ricepolo · 31/12/2018 18:00

Yep: having three kids is the reason she looks so thin.

Because she’s just like us isn’t she. Other than the nannies and the need to not do any of the grunt work involved with having kids, or indeed to do any work at all...Hmm

Ta1kinPeace · 31/12/2018 18:00

I weigh much less than I did at my wedding 25 years ago
my wedding dress hangs off me but it fitted then
most of my gym friends are fitter and leaner now than we ever were in our 20's

70sbaubles · 31/12/2018 18:05

GrinThought exactly the same!!
I would rather look like her than me, she's stunning!

feelingverylazytoday · 31/12/2018 18:16

I think she looks borderline underweight, tbh, and I was a teenager in the '70s. I believe she would have stood out as being a bit thin even then.
That's just my opinion though, I'm interested in weight and obesity issues and I've been both underweight and obese myself.
As for William 'losing his looks', this does get discussed, only not here.

FromEden · 31/12/2018 18:19

It is though. There are a lot of very fat people (apparently, I don't see that many on a regular basis) but there are also a lot of extremely slim and fit/toned people, a lot more than I ever see in the UK and Ireland.

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 31/12/2018 18:20

I'm guessing Catherine is an MNer anyway and scrolling through this with Wills giggling at the mad scrunity of a healthy woman's body/physique. But then she's probably used to it by now!

eco1636 · 31/12/2018 18:22

If you look back to her actual teenage/ early twenties she was not so skinny. So if sat she diets to be the size she is now quite strictly.

A fanciful notion. 🙄

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 31/12/2018 18:28

Ok, adding Wills in was a bit fanciful. Not sure why it warranted the sarky face.
