to think Duchess Kate is worryingly thin?

Just saw pictures of the Royal Family coming out of Church at Christmas and was struck by how incredibly thin Kate is, especially around the waist and hips.

I'm sure I will be accused of just feeling jealous, but honestly I would be concerned if I saw an 18-y-o girl that skinny, let alone a woman in her 30s with three children. I can't imagine how severely you have to diet to be that thin so soon after giving birth. I know she is naturally slim but even so, I am worried the constant media attention is having a bad effect on her self-image/mental health.

BTW I too was disgusted to read she goes hunting for sport.
They eat them
Game birds taste good

Fox hunting is indefensible.

canigetaliein · 31/12/2018 15:08

I don’t really agree with all this we’ve lost sight of what’s normal. Women certainly had more defined waists in the past but still had hips, etc. I’m sure I read that the average size waist in the 50s was 27” & women were shorter then. I was born in the 80s & the woman I generally saw in life & film were slim but not super thin, don’t remember my mum having or aiming for abs & most people were not super toned.

Average waists now are significantly larger
and average weights are significantly higher

if you choose not to believe the health statistics, that is your choice

but pictures of football crowds from the 60's and the current day are all the proof you need to see that people are fat now

Being toned is a modern thing
but being slim is not

KimchiLaLa · 31/12/2018 15:14

I think she looks brillIant. It's clear she works out, and why not? I would if I had a private gym and the time I assume she has while the kids are at school. I do think she eats - didn't they say once on the radio they get Indian takeaways? But it's possible to burn off what you eat if you're working out as I assume she does. I would love to know her fitness routine.

canigetaliein · 31/12/2018 15:22

don’t dispute this just don’t agree we have lost sight of what’s normal.

Being toned is a modern thing

I said that women in my life & on tv were slim just not very thin.

I think we have lost sight of what’s normal & become more extreme, very thin & toned, Kardashian & obese. There is a happy medium between thin & fat

Ta1kinPeace · 31/12/2018 15:23

There is a happy medium between thin & fat
Yes but as per the links above
the vast bulk of the population of the UK is heavier than that
and its getting worse

canigetaliein · 31/12/2018 15:35

i’m not disputing that people are getting fatter & but I think it’s more to do with the wrong food & lack of exercise then not realising they are fat. I just don’t think KM is a slim normal figure, she is thin to me as a former model.

Ta1kinPeace · 31/12/2018 15:40

But she is NOT underweight
or gaunt
or any of the other nasty bitchy descriptors that people use about her

If more people aspired to be lean
rather than bitch about those who are
the country would be in better shape

ElspethFlashman · 31/12/2018 15:54

Of course she's underweight. If she's more than 120 pounds I'll eat my hat. And that's generous.

And she's 5'10!

I mean, it's her choice, her job is to basically be a silent walking clothes hanger.

canigetaliein · 31/12/2018 16:04

I would argue that she was underweight.
I agree that as a population we should do more about our own personal health but I think its sad that in 2018 or 19 the message is still that being thin (not necessarily slim or healthy) is more important than anything else. I feel for her, look at the outcry over a grey strand of hair.

SemperIdem · 31/12/2018 16:06

I think she’s a naturally slim woman who chooses to exercise and eat in a particular way so as to be even slimmer. She looks great, in my opinion.

canigetaliein · 31/12/2018 16:08

I remember on my wedding day not being able to eat anything & not feeling remotely hungry due to anxiety. I’m very laid back & love food (never had any problems on shoots) she probably feels like that all the time.

BumbleyBum · 31/12/2018 16:09

I’m not worried

DarienGap · 31/12/2018 16:10

TalkinPeace

Photos of KM close up show how gaunt she is. It is ageing her without a doubt. That is not being 'bitchy' just honest.

Also hundreds if not thousands of game birds are shot by the royals. I hardly think they are all eaten.

SerenDippitty · 31/12/2018 16:32

People who say we’ve lost sight of what is normal overlook the fact that on average we are taller and larger framed now than we were in the 60s. KM would be an exceptionally tall woman by 60s standards.

Ta1kinPeace · 31/12/2018 16:41

Darien
You are basing you opinion on photos in the paper that have very likely been edited
I am basing mine on standing within three feet of her less than two months ago.
I know what I saw.
She is not gaunt. Lean but not gaunt.

DarienGap · 31/12/2018 16:47

Should have gone to Specsavers Grin

TooManyPaws · 31/12/2018 16:49

People who say we’ve lost sight of what is normal overlook the fact that on average we are taller and larger framed now than we were in the 60s. KM would be an exceptionally tall woman by 60s standards.

My mother was born in 1920; she never got over feeling like a clumsy giant in the 1930s at 5'7" and ginormous size 7 feet.

I'm smaller but have the same wide strong frame that both she and her mother had. I need to exercise constantly to lose weight and I put muscle on easily. I was over BMI for the military but they gave up when seeing my fat ratio; in pictures taken then I look chunky but strong with wide hips, small waist and big muscly thighs. Now I have arthritis and am just fat.

We all have different shapes, different metabolisms, different needs.

SemperIdem · 31/12/2018 16:54

When people say “we’ve lost sight of what is normal”, most are well aware that we are physically, naturally bigger than previous generations. What they mean is “we have lost sight of what is healthy”.

Nobody ever wants to be average, or sees being so as acceptable or desirable until the obesity issue in the UK is discussed and then all of a sudden the fact the average woman is a size 16 is fine/great/to be accepted 🤨

Ta1kinPeace · 31/12/2018 16:57

The average UK woman is still under 5'5"
www.theguardian.com/science/2016/jul/26/tall-story-men-and-women-have-grown-taller-over-last-century-study-shows
People have got fatter because they eat too much.
Kate is and always would have been taller than average
She eats the right amount for her frame
so is not fat
how is that hard to understand ?

canigetaliein · 31/12/2018 17:01

Is lean the new word for thin?

Kikita · 31/12/2018 17:06

Is lean the new word for thin?

Lean implies being low in fat. So thin people can be lean, and lean people can be thin, but it's not always the case.

Lots of thin people are quite inactive and carry a fair amount of surplus fat (some people call this being "skinny fat"). And Arnie in his prime was extremely lean, but I'm not sure anyone would have called him thin!

canigetaliein · 31/12/2018 17:07

she’s lean & thin to me.

chumbal · 31/12/2018 17:10

Yeah Wills proper lost his looks.
