to think Duchess Kate is worryingly thin?

louny · 29/12/2018 21:56

Just saw pictures of the Royal Family coming out of Church at Christmas and was struck by how incredibly thin Kate is, especially around the waist and hips.

I'm sure I will be accused of just feeling jealous, but honestly I would be concerned if I saw an 18-y-o girl that skinny, let alone a woman in her 30s with three children. I can't imagine how severely you have to diet to be that thin so soon after giving birth. I know she is naturally slim but even so, I am worried the constant media attention is having a bad effect on her self-image/mental health.

It's not a disease and it lasted only the first trimester with her. Much was made of how well she was feeling thereafter.

Bizarre argument.

NerrSnerr · 30/12/2018 22:24

To the people who think she is 'worryingly thin' if she had put on weight after having her children and she was a size 22 would it be acceptable to start a thread thinking she was 'worryingly fat'?

I personally don't think either is acceptable, but it seems that some people do feel it's ok to body shame others if it's aimed at slim people.

squeekums · 30/12/2018 23:07

Interesting that someone can be naturally thing but not naturally fat??
You can but it's not that common, i mean really look back over history how many naturally fat people are there v how many naturally thin?

except that you are not normally muscly, you need to work for that. We are designed to be active, not to be lazy couch potatoes, so it's normal to work out one way or another, but it's work. It's a lazy excuse to pretend some people are genetically slim and toned
Bullshit. Never been in a gym, worked out, nothing, it bores me, havent played sport since i was 13, i eat as i please.
Yet ive always been toned and thin. Hell my 6pack helped hide my pregnancy till 27 weeks.
Genetics play a huge part, my mother was the same

@dayswithaY completely agree, the amount of times in my life ive been called a rake, bag of bones, not a real woman, anorexic or bulimic, had people try to force feed me, joke about needing a burger, is beyond a joke.
If i dare say anything i apparently "cant take a joke" yet if i make jokes about a fat person in return im the nasty one who shouldnt joke about people weight.....

onlyindreams · 30/12/2018 23:22

OMG.
*Leave the woman to be....
Oh if only we could, leave her to be, and the whole damn lot of the vile family. Unfortunately we have to support them and keep them in obscene luxury.

PineapplePower · 31/12/2018 09:16

I’ve been thin my whole life, but I have obese family members and I’d never trade the few insults I get for their lives. Empathy is a positive thing, maybe try it.

I swear, some of the posts read like complaints about reverse racism. White privilege isn’t a thing because a black person said a mean thing to me!!1!!1

"Interesting that someone can be naturally thing but not naturally fat??

Considering I (nor anyone else) have no way of knowing everyone who has ever existed, that's an impossible question to answer.

I do know, however, that when threads like this come along there are loads of people falling over themselves to justify how they are naturally thin/have a high metabolism/couldn't gain weight if their life depended on it.

stevie69 · 31/12/2018 10:22

Personally I think she looks incredibly thin....far too thin. I imagine it must take a huge amount of discipline

I'd imagine that it does — take a huge amount of discipline. It does for me too Blush. But, I'm not underweight, have absolutely no eating disorder whatsoever and no, it doesn't make me miserable. I don't really grasp why it would be 'worrying' for anyone else.

And ...... Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge looks fab in my opinion Smile

stevie69 · 31/12/2018 10:25

Do you honestly believe she isn't working hard to be that weight/size?

She may well be; is it a problem of any kind?

GaryBaldbiscuit · 31/12/2018 10:26

I think she is too thin.

Ta1kinPeace · 31/12/2018 13:18

Having seen her at very close range recently
she is lean
as in not fat
That is all

Most people in the UK now are fat
I am a Next size 10 and my body is 29% fat (according to the gym machine)
To be healthily lean I need to lose 7 kg and be a small size 8

Kate Cambridge is Next size 8 from when I saw her
as are many other people who do not eat excessively and exercise regularly

NerrSnerr · 31/12/2018 13:27

I think she is too thin.

Too thin for what.

If you replaced thin with fat the comment would probably get deleted.

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 31/12/2018 13:30

She'd have the best diet and exercise consultants and all the support in the world. Of course she doesn't look like the average mum of 3.

GenerationSnowflake · 31/12/2018 13:32

it would get deleted, but it's a shame because it would be true too!

Coco Chanel might disagree, but you can be too slim - and you can certainly be too fat!

YankeeCandlePong · 31/12/2018 13:34

GaryBaldbiscuit · 31/12/2018 13:35

Too thin to be healthy

Kikita · 31/12/2018 13:37

Most people in the UK now are fat

link?

61.4% of adults in the UK are either overweight or obese.

Kikita · 31/12/2018 13:38

rates are lower among children though, so of all people, it's probably around 50/50 (I cba doing the calculation). So it's probably more accurate to say most adults in the UK now are fat.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 31/12/2018 13:45

Well, those stats are certainly from reputable sources, and if they're right it's surely the end of any disagreement over "we don't know what a normal, healthy weight looks like any more"

thenewaveragebear1983 · 31/12/2018 13:49

I think she's stunning. Natural. Stylish. I'm slim (size 8) but I reckon she's slimmer than me- I'd swap my figure for hers any day. I search for clothes on eBay using the search term Kate Middleton to find dresses like hers. I love her!

I have a great affinity with Kate- 3 kids, slightly paunchy Dh with receding hair....Grin

Ta1kinPeace · 31/12/2018 14:11

Puzzled
Those stats for overweight do not even pick up he full picture.
My BMI is less than 23 but my fat percentage is 29%
If my BMI went up to 24.9 I would be grossly overweight for me

There are significant numbers of people with a BMI between 23 and 25 who have body fat - particularly visceral fat - percentages that give them health risks.

Kate Cambridge is lean. Not thin. Lean. Her limbs are well muscled but not covered in fat.

YankeeCandlePong · 31/12/2018 14:22

Kikita and Talk - thanks for links - will have a good look later.

SheAlreadyDoneHadHerses · 31/12/2018 14:39

What hips?

MaMisled · 31/12/2018 14:42

Hopefully it's guilt about shooting all those birds eating away at her.

DarienGap · 31/12/2018 14:57

I wish I was so thin / slim.
I do agree with a pp who said that it is ageing her and she is starting to look gaunt.
Don't the French have a saying, to paraphrase for women after 40 it's either your face or your body, it's impossible to have both naturally.

BTW I too was disgusted to read she goes hunting for sport.
