to think Duchess Kate is worryingly thin?

Just saw pictures of the Royal Family coming out of Church at Christmas and was struck by how incredibly thin Kate is, especially around the waist and hips.

I'm sure I will be accused of just feeling jealous, but honestly I would be concerned if I saw an 18-y-o girl that skinny, let alone a woman in her 30s with three children. I can't imagine how severely you have to diet to be that thin so soon after giving birth. I know she is naturally slim but even so, I am worried the constant media attention is having a bad effect on her self-image/mental health.

YABU for looking at another woman who is a complete and utter stranger to you and making a judgment on her.

ElspethFlashman · 30/12/2018 11:49

That's Katherine Heigl, love.

Hmm
Sockmonster23 · 30/12/2018 11:55

No she is beautiful. In other Countries her size is the norm and they are healthy and happy. May be just maybe this country has many overweight people and it's becoming the New norm. Its not healthy at all. My nan who is 90 said this young generation will never live as long or healthy despite better medicine.

PineapplePower · 30/12/2018 12:07

Elspeth

Don’t ask people to post it here; it’s part of those France pap pics and Mumsnet could get in serious legal trouble if they were hosted here (they’d have to delete them anyway). You can easily Google them if you really want to see them, but I wouldn’t want to get anyone in trouble.

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 30/12/2018 12:10

Doesn’t the queen smoke? Pretty famously so?

GenerationSnowflake · 30/12/2018 12:16

Mumsnet could get in serious legal trouble if they were hosted here

genuine question, why would that be?
I have wondered why so many photos published abroad, even as innocent as George in the park, are never seen here. I thought there was an agreement to give some exclusive to the paps in exchange for privacy the rest of the time - it usually works that way.

PineapplePower · 30/12/2018 12:32

Not an expert but I think there’s some sort of gentleman’s agreement with the British press (the RF needs the press for relevancy) but the European press has no such agreements. These were taken in France and I believe the RF took legal action against the mag that published them.

ElspethFlashman · 30/12/2018 12:33

I have googled. They literally don't exist. I call bullshit.

Also, do you seriously think the British press would get sued for pics of her smoking??! Seriously? They didn't post those topless ones because you could see the future Queens nipples, not because of the alleged Fag.

And I saw those photos years ago anyway and I don't remember any smoking. It's all just bollocks.

I'm really bored of the whole "chainsmoker" stuff that comes up like clockwork here on MN. Yet nobody has ever posted a pic or even posted links to one. It's bollocks.

PineapplePower · 30/12/2018 13:09

I’m linking to the Daily Mail as it describes what was published. You’re right, it’s no big deal that she was smoking. People are acting like it’s a big moral failing. Ridiculous.

U2HasTheEdge · 30/12/2018 13:14

OP I don't believe for a second that you are genuinely worried about Kate. It's just an excuse to talk about her weight whilst covering it up in concern. I very much doubt she needs a bunch of strangers to worry about her.

She is clearly healthy enough and I wonder how others would feel having their weight and body picked apart.

OP you say you are worried that the media attention is having a negative effect on her body image, then you start a thread which invites people to pick her apart? Not buying your concern.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 30/12/2018 14:15

The she-is/is-not-too-skinny discussion and the obsession with how the DofC looks in general means that some more substantive issues are rarely considered.

What function do we expect royalty, and in particular female royals, to fulfil in public life? Should they be seen as role models and in what respect? Is it enough these days for a woman who is a key player in the royal family to be beautiful, thin, polished and fertile? Or might one ask for more?

The public are paying for something. But what do they really want? A woman to gawp at and to give a pretext for interminable arguments about body shape/size and fashion choices - or a woman who will help to reshape the monarchy for the modern era and inspire other women in non-superficial ways?

Personally I don't think we should put so much, er, weight on weight! Whether the DofC, as a public figure, has creative ideas and something worthwhile to say and do is surely a more pertinent subject of debate.

Conseulabananahammock · 30/12/2018 14:18

I hate this shit. Im 5ft 7 and 8 stone 4. I am naturally slim. Ive had 3 kids.
No media pressure here!
Some people are just built this way.
No we dont need to eat more, we are not ill.
Stop slim shaming. Its not ok to call out someone for being overweight so stop doing it for slim people

SerenDippitty · 30/12/2018 17:37

Doesn’t the queen smoke? Pretty famously so?

No - she is very anti smoking because her father smoked himself to death.

Prince Harry smoked before Meghan insisted he stop.

Lilifer · 30/12/2018 18:17

Outwithecrowd totally agree with you!

PineapplePower · 30/12/2018 18:45

I had high hopes for Meghan actually, as I thought she had some ideas and issues to highlight (she did some work regarding period poverty and is a self-described feminist).

It seems she is becoming just another clothes horse to photograph for public consumption; is that how she always really was, or is the RF pressuring her to conform? I hope this is not the case and she can develop a strong voice for issues she cares about.

expatmigrant · 30/12/2018 18:55

Yes she looks thin because as per another poster sadly a large part of the British people are now worryingly fat. It's all relative
I think she looks fab

Sweetpea55 · 30/12/2018 19:24

Well Im not worried how slim she is. Why be worried about someone you have never even met.. Ridiculous

Whataboutbobbo · 30/12/2018 19:30

She looks good. Obviously works out and looks after herself. Not too thin

pallisers · 30/12/2018 19:31

In the US vast swathes of the population are grossly overweight. 🙄Put your own house in order and all that...

You want me to make everyone in the USA thinner? I think you overestimate me. You also seem to think it is somehow my fault. I swear to god I didn't make them eat the cookie dough.

And if you read what I wrote, I said I live where there is a lot of obesity (although in the northeast so less so) and I STILL see loads of women her age and size. Amazed that so many people in the UK don't seem to do the same.

CoperCabana · 30/12/2018 20:04

There is lots of fat shaming on this thread as well as thin shaming so please don’t be taking the moral high ground.

‘It’s really not that hard’ - it really can be! I was as active as I could possibly be, and very restricted calories two years ago, and whilst got to a weight and size I was happy with, was still clinically overweight according to BMI. So please don’t be so rude.

I am a similar height to KM and about 10 years ago, I was very ill and lost lots of weight. The doctors put me on supplements. I would estimate I was still, at least, 2 stone heavier than she is now. Let’s make no bones about it. She is very thin.

But she had HG. She is BF. She has always been slim and sporty. She is the future QofE. She is going to be thin!

BlackberryandNettle · 30/12/2018 21:07

She looks great, how a lot of people would probably look with more time and money and less stressful lives ie not overweight from drinking/eating unhealthily

ILoveDolly · 30/12/2018 21:11

I have three kids and I'm a similar size to Kate. If only I had a personal trainer and better grooming too! I eat well, you just need to accept that some people are slim.

Dungeondragon15 · 30/12/2018 21:18

She is certainly thin but hardly worryingly so. She clearly has no problem conceiving and carrying children and is no doubt healthy. All this" we have lost sight of what is normal" stuff is bullshit though. Most celebrities are a similar size and plenty of the rest of the population have a reasonably low BMI too. We aren't all overweight!

Iflyaway · 30/12/2018 21:25

OMG.
Leave the woman to be....

And concentrate on you and yours.

get a life

LanaorAna2 · 30/12/2018 21:33

Someone who's known for an uncontrollable vomiting disease is probably never going to be a porker.
