Just saw pictures of the Royal Family coming out of Church at Christmas and was struck by how incredibly thin Kate is, especially around the waist and hips.

I'm sure I will be accused of just feeling jealous, but honestly I would be concerned if I saw an 18-y-o girl that skinny, let alone a woman in her 30s with three children. I can't imagine how severely you have to diet to be that thin so soon after giving birth. I know she is naturally slim but even so, I am worried the constant media attention is having a bad effect on her self-image/mental health.

They were in the series published in France, she was smoking, the one the press paid more attention to was the topless pics (now this was an outrage). It happened after getting married, so definitely within the decade.

as Kate is not patron of an anti-smoking lobby, I am not sure why it matters that much one way or another. Everyone knows that it's easier not to put on weight when you smoke, cigarettes were prescribed to pregnant women before the first world war to ensure they didn't balloon up too much. If she still smoke nows, she is not going to have a fag whilst feeding her baby or pushing a pram, so really who cares.

I agree with the OP. I think she must work very hard to be this slim. She wasn't this slim when she was younger and it's odd to get thinner as you get older, I would say the body naturally gains weight with age? I could be wrong.

HG. That's one simple explanation, I dropped one and a half dress sizes while pregnant due to sickness. I got fed up of people commenting on my slimness afterwards as well, and got quite blunt as to the reason.

In that photo she is definitely has larger muscles than now. Her legs are pure muscle not fat. Wasn’t she a member of the rowing team which would cause anyone to bulk up?

no, some women get thinner. What is not unnatural but does take work is toning up and having a lovely muscle definition - that doesn't happen without some kind of exercise.

Ignore plastic surgery, but the slim women with a toned and perked butt do work for it. The ones who just diet and don't exercise tend to have a flat bum. You don't get abs by siting down either.

Kate is certainly very then, but 'worryingly' thin? Nah. She seems happy and healthy, especially since the birth of Louis.

However, let's not pretend that this is 'natural' for her and that she just 'snapped back' after having Louis. As others have said, in her university pics she was still slim, but considerably less slim than now. Is it possible for a woman to be 'naturally' slimmer at nearly 40 and after 3 kids, compared to what she was as a student? Yeah I guess it's possible, but it's very rare, and the reverse is much more common.

Not that I'm saying there's anything wrong with her making such an effort to be thin. Just let's not be under any illusions that this is 'natural' for her.

Too thin for what exactly? Because she looks well, she's as fit as a fiddle and she's had three healthy children. The only thing I can think that she might be too thin for is other women's approval. And that matters not one jot

I think it's also very blase to say she can't have a problem or doesn't when Princess Diana was extremely poorly with an eating disorder and that's what her thinness was about. She was a very slim lady but when she was poorly with her illness she was very poorly indeed and maybe it would have helped if a few more people were concerned about her health at that time.

I think Kate looks great, but no one can use her pregnancy to say that her VERY slim body is healthy. No one knows if her babies were conceived naturally! None of our business, but you can't make her an icon one way or another when you haven't got a clue what is going behind close doors.

All we can see are photos of her younger, slim but not so skinny, and much thinner hair. She has changed, and she clearly works really hard for it. Good for her, not many people will be as committed so it's a good role model to show girls that being slim takes work.

She's thin, I'm not sure if worryingly so, I think having her looks & body under that much scrutiny must be horrific, I honestly can't think of anything worse. I doubt she would be THAT thin if she wasn't a princess.

I’m probably a similar size. I’ve never dieted but I do exercise regularly. I’ve never put on much weight in pregnancy and what I have I have lost quickly and without effort.

Are you sure that's Kate in the picture?

I bet a thread about a woman who was 'worryingly fat' would be deleted for not being in the spirit or something.

If that is Kate its from pre marriage.

I agree with you I think she's too thin.
It may just be her body shape or I'm unsure how tall she is but I'd say she looks thin and her waist is tiny.

No idea if she still smokes since she had her last child, but if she does, she is not stupid, she will do it privately, they have enough lands and properties to avoid cameras.
