To ask if you have ever eaten at Le Gavroche.....

ThatThingYouDo · 29/12/2018 18:56

......and what did you wear??

A relative has kindly bought me and my husband a dinner at Le Gavroche.

We're not posh, and tbh the height of luxury for us is dinner at Prezzo (yes really!).

It's apparently a very expensive,
Michelin starred place.

I don't want to embarrass myself or stick out like a sore thumb, so any suggestions on what to wear would be brilliant. Thanks!

No, I haven’t but I’m very jealous! SmileFlowers

emsyj37 · 29/12/2018 19:00

I have. It was a client entertaining thing so I was wearing a work type dress. I can't remember if it's one of those places where men have to wear a jacket and tie. Sorry that's not very helpful Blush.

RaininSummer · 29/12/2018 19:00

Never eaten there but nice snartish clothes can't be wrong. Quite possibly, those wealthy enough to make it a regular haunt might well be scruffy buggers but just in case, best scrub up.

OyOy · 29/12/2018 19:00

No but try looking at Insta?

clinkers · 29/12/2018 19:00

Never heard of it. Where is it?

DustOffYourHighestHopes · 29/12/2018 19:01

Just a smartish dress and boots is fine. Or trousers and nice top. I wouldn’t wear trainers!

ShinyMe · 29/12/2018 19:01

Their website says:
Do you have a dress code for the restaurant?

Le Gavroche operates a smart dress code, jackets and ties are optional and we do not permit any t-shirts or sportswear. Any decision regarding permitting entry to the restaurant is entirely at the management’s discretion and guests found complying with the dress code but are not attired appropriately may be denied entry.

I'm so jealous!

LuckyAmy1986 · 29/12/2018 19:02

Yes and it’s lovely so enjoy. I wasn’t overly dressed up, think smart casual. If you are too overdressed you might stand out more.

DustOffYourHighestHopes · 29/12/2018 19:02

From memory it’s posh in a tableclothy/ work event type way, so i’d want dh in suit (no tie). It’s not one of those informal posh restaurants where you can rock up in jeans and trainers (unless you are super confident and relaxed).

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 29/12/2018 19:02

Not been but would dress up pretty smart for it.

ThatThingYouDo · 29/12/2018 19:02

clinkers it's in Central London.

Yes, but lunch for a work thing. It is smart and very OTT on the service (I remember being escorted to the toilet). You do need to dress up. Agree with the pp who said to check out insta

Beebumble2 · 29/12/2018 19:03

Smart dress, or dressy trousers and top, classic boots or shoes. Keep the jewellery simple.
Enjoy your food and don’t worry about clothing.

clinkers · 29/12/2018 19:04

@thatthingyoudo thanks xx Gosh its been YEARS since Ive been to London. I must check it out if I ever go :)

ThatThingYouDo · 29/12/2018 19:04

LuckyAmy1986 Yes that's what I was worried about, going too over the top!

Faffandahalf · 29/12/2018 19:04

I always like dressing for dinner. Just a nice dress. At a place like that I would wear a dress and heels/smart ankle boots.
But I find a lot of people (wealthy) will wear jeans. They have an air of money that means even in jeans and a tee they look effortless whereas I would look like a scruff!

LittleSunnyflower · 29/12/2018 19:04

Yes, he wore a suit and I wore a nice dress and heels.

ThatThingYouDo · 29/12/2018 19:05

clinkers I shall report back on whether it is worth the visit! Wink

I would go with smart but not formal. My Dad would be most jealous, it's his favourite restaurant.

PossiblyPFB · 29/12/2018 19:06

I have, a few times. Smart, but not formal wear, and you’ll be fine. A dress / smart blouse and trousers & heels / nice flats for you and a jacket for DH would be fine. No jeans and no trainers. It’s lovely- food is excellent and wine is too! Enjoy OP ! Smile

TAMumof3 · 29/12/2018 19:06

I have and was disappointed, no side-plates, very flavourless chicken main and sadly badly behaved children climbing on seats and running round tables with not a comment from parents. Would never go again.

ThunderInMyHeart · 29/12/2018 19:06

I love that place! My favourite meal was had there.

Please don’t feel that you’re ‘not posh enough’ or anything. The staff are friendly and ridiculously on it. They will not look down on you or judge - it’ll be part of the reason the place has a Michelin star. Just wear something smartish that you feel comfortable in.

LesLavandes · 29/12/2018 19:07

It would be better if your partner wore a jacket and nice shirt and trousers

QueenDoris · 29/12/2018 19:07

We went just before Xmas. Michel was cooking that night and came out and said hello.

Smart casual is fine btw

LookBackInIngres · 29/12/2018 19:08

A friend asked this about going to the Caprice and was told: Dress as you would if you were going to the High Court for your divorce hearing. This would apply to Gavvers.
