I’m just doing my budget for January and wondering if most people will be skint in January or do you budget and it’s not a problem?

Not skint, but no school age or younger children to buy anything for at Christmas, and intentionally modest presents.

Crimson72 · 30/12/2018 11:15

Yes - I massively overspent this Christmas so will be completely skint come January.

starzig · 30/12/2018 11:18

No but will have to pay £500 back into my party account and won't be able to put much into my non DD savings account.

Huntawaymama · 30/12/2018 11:27

I won't be skint but I didn't put any money into my savings in November and December so I'd like to tighten the belt and save a bit extra

OldGrinch · 30/12/2018 11:40

Not skint but have 2 DC birthdays in Jan, thank God they are no longer of age when want to have big parties, also just remembered that I have to pay £100 on my Argos card as have one of those Buy Now Pay 6th months later plans ending soon Shock

sweeneytoddsrazor · 30/12/2018 11:45

Pay day is every 4 weeks and it falls very conveniently on 4th Jan so no I wont be skint (well not any more than I am any other month) Grin

SushiMonster · 30/12/2018 11:50

Nope

SagelyNodding · 30/12/2018 11:54

I won't be skint, but getting early pay in December means I will have to pay attention to my spending! DH is likely to become unemployed (company being taken over-we will know more tomorrow hopefully), so I am quite worried about the immediate future Sad

Oooo a party account. I need one of them.

I will also be watching the balance and trying to limit spending after spending a bit too much at Christmas. I need to reign it in a bit.

girlwithadragontattoo · 30/12/2018 12:06

Yep, i had enough money to pay bills this month and that’s it, no money for presents etc.. i have a roof over my head so i’m blessed at least

starzig · 30/12/2018 12:35

Haha stopitandtidyupp. I need it lol! If I started dipping into my normal savings it would be a very slippery slope.

Fowles94 · 30/12/2018 12:37

Nope but I try to budget every month anyway.

TSSDNCOP · 30/12/2018 12:44

Not skint, but I think January generally is a month of recovery.

SocksRock · 30/12/2018 13:04

Yes because tax is due at the end of this month. After that we will be OK.

JillScarlet · 30/12/2018 13:08

No more than any other month.
But less probably as there will be fewer drunks out or bottles to buy to take to parties.

We budget for Christmas and don’t go overboard on presents. Adults don’t exchange presents, modest amounts in nieces and nephews, £150 max on kids.

brusselsproutfan · 30/12/2018 16:38

I'm going to be skint and I'm not used to it. My OH lost his job end September and hasn't managed to secure another one yet. We have been using the finanacial cushion (savings) which will run out end January so I'm keeping everything crossed he gets a job in the next week or two otherwise unsure what'll happen.

Freco010 · 30/12/2018 16:55

@brusselsproutfan fingers crossed for you!

Thanks! For those who asked I did it through step change which was an actual life saver, I was at a complete loss as to what to do and hadn’t told anyone. I can’t explain the relief I felt once it was in hand! After January I’ll have an extra 500 a month, won’t know what to do with myself Grin Setting up some sort of savings is going to be too priority after treating myself

AllTakenSoRubbishUsername · 30/12/2018 18:11

No, but I will be trying to spend less. I spent a ridiculous amount over Christmas and need to stop going straight to Amazon every time I hear someone mention a new gadget or something!

Sweetpea55 · 30/12/2018 19:27

No we have a separate account that we use to pay for Christmas so it never affects us.

Poloshot · 30/12/2018 19:28

No I'll be fine

Subtlecheese · 30/12/2018 19:31

No. But I have lost my bank card! I also can't seem to order a new one without going to a bank. Which is very akward until Wednesday.

tomhazard · 30/12/2018 19:34

No. My current job does not pay early and I had money aside for Xmas so should be okay

wannabebetter · 30/12/2018 19:36

A bit!! But mainly because I have to go to best mate's 50th early Feb (involves flights) and when excitedly booking holiday for DH & I, chose end Feb (week before payday) so will have to b VERY careful this month!!!

UAEMum · 30/12/2018 19:40

Yes because I just soent 2000 pounds on holiday flights for the Summer. The airline had a huge sale until 31 December. I couldn't resist!
