I’m just doing my budget for January and wondering if most people will be skint in January or do you budget and it’s not a problem?

No but deliberately worked my tits off in December. Self employed.

loubluee · 28/12/2018 22:44

Am not working due to health issues but paid for all of Christmas by the third week of December, no over draft, no credit card. I have about 1k in my banks account. Not much, but enough to get by. I’m savvy with shopping and tend to find the real bargains and shop throughout the year. I’m looking now for stuff for next ChristmasBlush

Pandamodium · 28/12/2018 22:45

I'm skint every month especially January, our sons been very poorly so DH who is self employed hasn't been able to work.

It's my DD2's birthday tomorrow and I've had to borrow my teenage daughters Xmas money to fund it. I feel like shit that I had to resort to that.

Flapjackninja · 28/12/2018 22:46

No I did park saving club this year which sorted Christmas. Plus my wages are paid fortnightly. Planning to save tho really want to save this year. Have already opened a credit union account in preparation.

steff13 · 28/12/2018 22:47

Not really. #1 son's birthday is towards the end of January, so we have that, but other than that no other excess expenses.

Fullofthought · 28/12/2018 22:47

Jan is a bad month for me as it's my little ones birthday so yeah I'll be skint every December and January lol

sophisticatedsarcasm · 28/12/2018 22:48

Yep will have about £100to last me the 5 weeks, on the plus side I will be rich for February 😂😂

Boredboredboredboredbored · 28/12/2018 22:48

No and it's nice to have a quiet financial month. Sick of spending come January!

ChairinSage · 28/12/2018 22:49

For the first time ever, no. It's a strange feeling, but as long as nothing expensive happens we'll be OK. This is partly due to DH getting a promotion earlier in the year, the extra income has given us a bit of breathing space.

sophisticatedsarcasm · 28/12/2018 22:49

Also my DS birthday next Saturday but I’ve already paid for his presents, just gotta buy his birthday meal 😊

Ellisandra · 28/12/2018 22:50

No. But I don’t overspend on Xmas.

MarcieBluebell · 28/12/2018 22:53

No. I stuck to budget for the first time. Also I stayed at my mums and she insisted she wanted to pay for the food so I've saved loads on food.

Didyeeaye · 28/12/2018 22:58

I'm skint this month but it's my own silly fault. I'm mega impulsive so bought an impromptu holiday in March after spending £200 on a new washing machine... Now only have about £215 for food and petrol till I get paid. I'm a tit

Passthecake30 · 28/12/2018 22:58

No, but will try to have a frugal January. I won't have to spend as much in the supermarket as we will be clearing out the goodies Smile

Xmasbaby11 · 28/12/2018 23:00

Yes pretty skint. Both dds have January birthdays so it's an expensive month!

tor8181 · 28/12/2018 23:00

no we are never short in jan(or any month) as we get regular money coming in a few times a week

Frosty66611 · 28/12/2018 23:01

I won’t be skint as such but I will have to be quite careful with money until March to make sure I don’t have to start living off my credit card

Tumbledryer1 · 28/12/2018 23:02

Not skint but will be pulling the reins in a bit! But that’s like every month!

Casmama · 28/12/2018 23:02

Not especially as paid for Christmas in cash but money needs to last as I am redundant as of 31st January and so need to reduce costs to stretch money as long as possible. DH been out of work for 6 months so all a bit of a nightmare Xmas Sad

Darkestnight · 28/12/2018 23:03

Yes and no but don't get paid till next week so skint atm

Casmama · 28/12/2018 23:03

Sorry meant 31st December

Coralnails · 28/12/2018 23:03

No not skint, but we do have a budget so can't just spend whatever we want but it won't be any different to other times.

WhatOnEarthDoIDoNow · 28/12/2018 23:04

Yup because I'm a student, my rent this quarter is almost £2000, I'm booking to go abroad with friends, I need to buy some course books and I'm learning to drive in January.

Plus I'm crap at budgeting and I feel really low and irrationally upset right now so I'm buying myself presents that I actually want and need.

Ethel36 · 28/12/2018 23:06

I learnt my lesson last year. So this time I bought the presents over 2 months, October & November.

AMomHasNoName · 28/12/2018 23:06

Not overly so but we'll have a low spending month because our four DCs birthdays are all the end of December and January so we have those to buy for :)
