I’m just doing my budget for January and wondering if most people will be skint in January or do you budget and it’s not a problem?

Yep. Got paid a week early. We are changing to an end of month pay day in January.
71/2 weeks on one months pay....

justgivemewine · 28/12/2018 23:35

No, we have a separate account and tranfer £x per month for things like Christmas/birthdays/holidays and other things so the money is already there to spend when needed.

babysharkah · 28/12/2018 23:35

Temporarily as dealing with a 2k vet bill. Covered by insurance but have to pay up front. December is the worst month it could happen.

amy85 · 28/12/2018 23:36

Yup but am always skint so nothing new

FOTTOSOFTFOSM · 28/12/2018 23:39

No although won't be as in front as I expected as have been off sick. Stopped getting into debt at Christmas a long time ago.

cheesybiter · 28/12/2018 23:40

Yes. But not due to expensive Xmas but due to ill health = time off work so on reduced pay.

Drogosnextwife · 28/12/2018 23:42

Yup because dp was off for 2 weeks in December and will be 1 week in January, self employed so doesn't get paid. He will get a small amount each week from his second job and we have a little money put by (few hundred) so should get us through until Feb 🤞

BreconBeBuggered · 28/12/2018 23:43

A bit, but only because of heavy spending on Christmas food and a few last-minute presents. It's all from the current account, so no debt, just a bit of belt-tightening to stay in the black until the January pay day.

TheBigBangRocks · 28/12/2018 23:44

No, we save for Christmas so January is no different than any other month.

NewYearmorestress · 28/12/2018 23:44

Yes, but I am always skint from about 2 days after pay day.

MintyCedric · 28/12/2018 23:50

It's going to be very tight...budget of £55 a week for household and food shop for me, teenager and 3 pets and need to eek petrol out of that too (40 miles a week to and from work). Have worked out I should be left with 63p by payday, based on that.

Seriously need to get my finances in check this year.

ScreamingBadSanta · 28/12/2018 23:53

No - we don't have a big Christmas so my December expenses aren't significantly different from normal.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 28/12/2018 23:54

I get paid a week today, so no thankfully

Jsmith99 · 28/12/2018 23:54

No, because we don’t over-spend in December.

brizzledrizzle · 29/12/2018 00:02

Yes, much like December as my salary payment has gone awol.

EustaciaPieface · 29/12/2018 00:06

Yes, January is always very hard for me. Christmas is so expensive.

icannotremember · 29/12/2018 00:07

No. I'll have no savings and less scope to start replacing them for a couple of months as I've budgeted to pay off my credit card instead, but I won't be broke. We still have money for rent, bills, groceries, transport, childcare, activities and so on. I have a slightly OTT excel sheet that means I can plan to the penny- for years I didn't and we lurched from crisis to crisis, I feel much much better this way :)

Bertiebitch32 · 29/12/2018 00:10

No thank god because I saved for Christmas even for the food shop, I'm tight this week but I don't need anything I've got cupboards full

Serin · 29/12/2018 00:11

We will have to dip into savings in January as 2 DC are going on school trips to Switzerland and need money for food/spends.

Ribbonsonabox · 29/12/2018 00:12

Yes in the sense things will be very tight.... but we are not in debt and we have savings with which we are in the process of buying a house with.... so I'd hardly say things were actually bad! We just wont be able to do anything fun for a couple of months just have money for the basics.... but that's a lot better position than a lot of people are sadly in so I'm not unhappy about it at all. We had a good Christmas and made some good memories so I feel having to scale things back for a bit is a fine trade off.

Ollivander84 · 29/12/2018 00:12

Hopefully not but I did bank care/support work on Christmas Day and Boxing Day which gets paid weekly, plus a massive amount of matched betting!

LoveManyTrustfew · 29/12/2018 00:14

After 30 years together, we are more or less sorted.

Not rich, not poor, but finally mortgage free in February.

Which gave me the financial freedom to bid on tickets for Twickenham at our rugby club lunch today.

Loooooong time coming and I make no apologies for being happy about it. Grin

magoria · 29/12/2018 00:14

Nothing left over in January as I have had to fork out £700 to get my car fixed, serviced and MOTed! I knew the service and MOT were coming but car broke down week before Christmas so cost a lot more than budgeted.

Plus DS's bus pass for college is £300.

Minionrush · 29/12/2018 00:15

Yes !!! Far too sacred to check my account was paid on the 20th blew it on Christmas has to last until the 31st January x

SoyDora · 29/12/2018 00:16

Depends how much our MOT is next week! Also need to fork out £2k for a Multimac...
