To say the traditional way to eat after 8's is not to put the wrappers back in the box

My partner thinks it's 'traditional' (he was being a bit jokey) but seriously I don't want to come to the box thinking it's half full but there's only 3 blood after eights left! AIBU to think the wrappers go in the bin not in the box?

😂after eights are probably the only thing I leave wrappers in. Part of the fun.

RosemarysBush · 28/12/2018 17:14

Goodness! When are those adverts from?!
Now I need me some luxury, unashamed luxury.

Heuschrecke · 28/12/2018 17:16

A while back, but clearly Mr Rowntree wanted us all to know the 'correct form'?!

katekat383 · 28/12/2018 17:21

Your partner is right! Putting the sleeves back in the box IS the way to do it!

Heuschrecke · 28/12/2018 17:22

No, no, no - one places the empty sleeve on one's side plate!!

YoThePussy · 28/12/2018 17:24

The tradition is to eat the entire box all at once then leave it empty with wrappers in for someone else (My DSis) to find.

Hassled · 28/12/2018 17:27

a) It's always after 8 O'Clock
b) The joy of eating After Eights is that suspense - are there actually any left? Is it all wrappers?

leaveituntiltomorrow · 28/12/2018 17:28

I can’t believe people are condoning putting the empty wrappers back in the box????

Animals.

BishopstonFaffing · 28/12/2018 17:29

You're all wrong. Wrapper goes in mouth, blow hard, shoot wrapper across room, snigger, eat after eight.

ChristmasWrappingTheWaitresses · 28/12/2018 17:30

The wrappers stay in the box.

And now you have made me sad because despite the fact that my favourite chocolate is mint chocolate and my favourite mint chocolates are After Eights no fucker has bought me any mint chocolates this year. Thanks for reminding me.

The in-laws did buy me some cheap liqueur chocolates which I hate and my husband and I amused ourselves on Christmas day by managing to stash them in somebody else's gift bag without anybody else noticing.

"I can’t believe people are condoning putting the empty wrappers back in the box????"
"Animals."

Far worse - peasants, absolute peasants!!

I wonder why are after eights are the only confection you are allowed to leave the wrappers in the box, mind you a few years ago I could leave a chocolate orange 🍊 wrapper looking whole after I’d eaten half

Yes the wrappers are all over the place...
However I'd rather know where I'm at with how many are left.

Ridingthegravytrain · 28/12/2018 17:50

No it adds to the excitement. You think it’s empty then push the wrappers and find a couple of sneaky ones at either end

Or maybe that’s just me..

starzig · 28/12/2018 17:57

Sleeve stays in. Finding 1 is part of the fun.

Number12 · 28/12/2018 18:20

Half the fun is rummaging around the box for an after eight. As a pp said you can tell by the weight of the box :-)

diamondofdoom · 28/12/2018 18:23

They're absolutely disgusting Envy

Pythonesque · 28/12/2018 18:26

I've always liked to make paper cranes out of the wrappers ...

maddiemookins16mum · 28/12/2018 18:28

You extract the wafer thin mint from its sleeve and leave them in the box. I’ve been doing that for 45 years.

ExplodedPeach · 28/12/2018 18:41

Wrappers stay out the box except a sneaky few to trick people into thinking there are more chocs left than they thought Xmas Grin

Katinkka · 29/12/2018 01:48

Btw the marks and spencer copy after eights are sooo much nicer.

Whatififall · 29/12/2018 02:13

Wrappers definitely stay in the box, after eight is removed, sleeve remains
