To say the traditional way to eat after 8's is not to put the wrappers back in the box

My partner thinks it's 'traditional' (he was being a bit jokey) but seriously I don't want to come to the box thinking it's half full but there's only 3 blood after eights left! AIBU to think the wrappers go in the bin not in the box?

I put them in the box....

BedraggledBlitz · 28/12/2018 16:37

Bin

AliceScarlett · 28/12/2018 16:37

I never remove them in the first place.

GreenTulips · 28/12/2018 16:37

Ahhhhh!!!

Buy a second box and hide them!!

Aaaahfuck · 28/12/2018 16:39

I'm currently eating them watching game of thrones. I've emptied the wrappers onto the sofa.

They're After Eight mints, you're far too early to eat them today! Wink

BedraggledBlitz · 28/12/2018 16:43

@Alice you eat the wrappers??

Onemorefireball · 28/12/2018 16:45

I'm with Alice, you take the chocolate out and leave the wrapper behind. The wrapper never leaves the box.

Aaaahfuck · 28/12/2018 16:45

It's after 8am!

XmasHolly - it's after 8 in the morning. The box doesn't stipulate which 8 o'clock - so I would carry on eating them OP! Grin🤣

callymarch · 28/12/2018 16:47

wrapper stays in box, remove after eights one by one. never share a box with anyone then it isn't a problem.

MooMummy12 · 28/12/2018 16:50

Always take the wrapper out! Unlike my partner and daughter who like to con me into thinking the box is full 🙄

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 28/12/2018 16:53

After Eights are the exception to the ‘never leave empty wrappers in the box’ rule. The wrapper stays in the box.

EverythingsDozy · 28/12/2018 16:54

I don't take the wrapper out because otherwise they fall over when the box is half empty, but I also hate the disappointment when you think there are loads left but on closer inspection, some greedy pig has eaten them all.

Heuschrecke · 28/12/2018 16:55

The correct way is to remove the sleeve - with choc inside (without touching any of the chocs in the box) eat choc and discard sleeve Xmas Grin

FarrowAndBallsUp · 28/12/2018 16:55

Wrapper stays in the box!

MaidenMotherCrone · 28/12/2018 16:55

Wrapper stays in the box! An experienced consumer can tell how many are left by the weight of the box Wink

Shenanagins · 28/12/2018 16:57

Wrapper stays in box, to do otherwise is uncouth 🎅!

blackteasplease · 28/12/2018 16:57

I put the wrappers in the bin. Too disappointing if you find there are none left!

DuggeesWooOOooggle · 28/12/2018 16:59

We once had a box of factory seconds After 8s - no wrappers at all and the mint's had got so squidgy you could basically just scoop out minty chocolatey goo with yoyr fingers a spoon.

Apparently when they are made, the mint centres are hard like Kendal mint cake and they spray the chocolate on. They are then stored for a while. The centres contain an enzyme which gradually breaks down and softens the centres to a fondant consistency. Hence the box of factory seconds - either too much enzyme or been stored too long maybe.

Honeyroar · 28/12/2018 17:01

I’m on the fence. I know what you mean about thinking the box is full when it’s not, but if you put the empty sleeves in the box it keeps the remaining ones upright...

posthistoricmonsters · 28/12/2018 17:01

I don't care what kind of sweet of biscuit it is, I cannot bear people putting empty wrappers back into boxes. But I have 'issues' with rubbish and such. I've never known there to be a tradition. But I think I remember my father putting the after eight wrappers back in the box.

Strugglingtodomybest · 28/12/2018 17:04

Another vote for not taking them out in the first place.

This is the first year that I can remember that no-one has bought me a box of after 8s. Xmas Sad

3out · 28/12/2018 17:06

Box. Otherwise, you end up with a sitting room covered in wrappers (or around the fireplace after people screw up the wrapper, aim for the fire and miss)

Heuschrecke · 28/12/2018 17:09

All these people know how to behave themselves properly - sleeves come out when you pick your choc out of the box!!!!!!!!!
