DC are asleep and I have no one to do a Merry Christmas toast with....so i hope someone might join me in a virtual toast?

I have had the perfect day. Nothing extraordinary but just exactly right. Its been a while since I have said that about Christmas, or even thought it possible to feel content.

Loveliest moments include DC helping with christmas dinner, DC1 recently declared he wants to be a chef when he grows up and did everything with me. So lovely having the cheerful company and help.

Aww that's lovely Xmas Smile

I'll toast you, I only had my youngest today as eldest was with his dad so I was dreading it in all honesty but it wasn't as bad as I thought, she loved her presents and was just a joy all day (18 months) dancing and playing with her new baby, be nice when my son is back tomorrow but was a nice content Christmas

Just little moments, DS13 gave DH a huge hug out of nowhere earlier and told him how much he loves him (which for an emotional 13 year old whose primary form of communication is a shrug was impressive) and DS7 was weepy at bedtime (he'd stayed awake after midnight last night through sheer determination and excitement so went to bed early early) and said that he just wishes every day could be this happy.

lovemylot1 · 25/12/2018 20:02

I had a lovely day. It’s the first Christmas since having DC I really enjoyed it, they are 5, 3 and 3 months.

The 3 month old just smiles at everything so very easy.

The other two are just old enough now to enjoy and remember all the Christmas traditions. They eat some of the food without complaining. They managed not to fight or cry much.

It really is magical seeing how excited they are by the whole thing. They really believe in Father Christmas! So sweet.

hammeringinmyhead · 25/12/2018 20:03

My day was made lovely by receiving my very first "Mummy" card and by cuddles with my brand new baby (7 weeks old). It's two years since we decided to have a baby so he took a little time getting here. We spent the day in clean PJs and slippers, just the three of us.

Also by getting a Velvetiser from DH and the prospect of perfect hot chocolate later!

Throwing a really bouncy ball in the car park over the road from our house for my eldest DS. He chased it and brought it back to me, basically like a dog, but looked so happy with his hair blowing in the wind!

Warmworm · 25/12/2018 20:04

My teenager was so excited to give me her gift. It was a chilly’s water bottle that I’d admired months ago and she’d saved to buy it for me. She was more excited about that than opening her own presents. I’m so lucky to have such a great kid.

Disfordarkchocolate · 25/12/2018 20:04

My MIL gave me her favourite pair of nice earrings. It was unexpected and made me all tearey. It's been lovely day

Elllicam · 25/12/2018 20:04

My 4 year old cuddling into me and saying I’m his best friend.

Di11y · 25/12/2018 20:06

after a week or two of horrendous rude behaviour from my 4yo I barely had to say 2 cross words all day. dd1 and dd2 (16mo) both loved their presents and were happy, kind and polite all day. I didn't have to cook and am now watching call the midwife in front of a roaring fire. wonderful.

HebeMumsnet · 25/12/2018 20:07

Aw! Cheers to you OP and others. Sad though it is, I've had a lovely day but it's also been lovely to pop onto Mumsnet and see what everyone else is doing all over the world. (And pigs in blankets. They made my day lovely, too.)

DonaldDucksTowel · 25/12/2018 20:09

Oh warm that’s so lovely Xmas Smile

nanny2012nanny · 25/12/2018 20:10

My day has been perfect, just myself, my dog my mother and step father who sadly has dementia.
After a bad accident at the beginning of the year I had to live with them for 3 months, so it’s been amazing to be here in good health and cook them a meal!

MisstoMrs · 25/12/2018 20:11

My DS telling me ‘Merry christmas mummy, I love you’. He’s two. It’s been a weird week and I have a miserable cold.

My DH looking after my DS all day (something he really struggles with even though he is DS’s dad).

If I just didn’t feel pants it would be ideal.

GoulashSoup · 25/12/2018 20:13

It has been a lovely Christmas here. Last year was a Noro virus spectacular so it has been nice to have a happy Christmas. Highlights include:

The children loving going to the Christingle service and all laughing together when the hymn went wrong.
The children skipping with delight at new pyjamas from Grandma on Christmas Eve.
My Dad reading the night before Christmas and the children all concentrating.
Washing up with not quite two year old DS.
A lovely muddy walk in the woods.

Nothing big, just lots of little things, mostly the children being lovely and not spoilt brats.

Also Irish coffees and lots of prosecco and a baked Camembert.

thismeansnothing · 25/12/2018 20:13

Me and DH made Xmas dinner together (I'd treated myself to some Primark stick on Xmas nails and they are longer than I'm used too and as a result lost all ability of my fingers 🤣🤦) he did chopping, while I did putting things in oven and timings but it all just sort of came together, was amazing and he washed up afterwards! Like Christmas never happened in our kitchen 🤣
Then snuggling with DD under her new fleece blanket to watch strictly

Cheaplousyfaggot · 25/12/2018 20:14

My 4yr old unwrapping and immediately kissing each of his presents because he was so pleased with them, he has been an absolute joy today :)

GoulashSoup · 25/12/2018 20:15

warm that is lovely, she sounds like a sweet girl.

Piratefairy78 · 25/12/2018 20:16

Last night I had a wobble when we put the DC presents under the tree. DS12, who has autism, only had a few gifts as he asked for an expensive bike. I had a tear in my eye this morning when he explained to his sisters whilst opening stockings in bed that he wouldn’t have that many gifts today as his bike was expensive. Later in the day he gave me a rare hug as he got all that he asked for.

Cheaplousyfaggot · 25/12/2018 20:16

MisstoMrs sorry i missed the feeling pants bit. Hope you feel better soon.

When my beautiful boy was so happy unwrapping his gifts. It's magical at that age. So worth the effort

brizzledrizzle · 25/12/2018 20:17

The nursing home emailing me photos of a special relative at Xmas lunch.
DS making me a coffee first thing without being asked.

originaldoozy · 25/12/2018 20:17

When just before falling asleep tonight my four year old said 'we must make sure we say thank you to Father Christmas for such lovely presents'. ❤

Plastictattoo · 25/12/2018 20:19

My DSis gave me a voucher for a manicure and I burst into tears! Always did eye rolls at suggestions of spa days on MN as not my thing at all but it just threw me! Might just be the thought of an hour away from the kids or the total indulgence of it but yeah, that broke me today.
And obvs, the kids etc Blush as not totally self centered!
