DC are asleep and I have no one to do a Merry Christmas toast with....so i hope someone might join me in a virtual toast?

Wine

I have had the perfect day. Nothing extraordinary but just exactly right. Its been a while since I have said that about Christmas, or even thought it possible to feel content.

Loveliest moments include DC helping with christmas dinner, DC1 recently declared he wants to be a chef when he grows up and did everything with me. So lovely having the cheerful company and help.

Happy Christmas MNers! OP this is a gorgeous thread thank you!
Like many of you ours has been lovely not because of any Insta worthy moments (we're too ordinary!) but because it's all been just right and perfect for us IYSWIM? Plus DH made the best Goose fat roasties ever today Grin

PenguinPandas · 25/12/2018 20:19

My DS (ASD and 11) jumping up and down in happiness at the baby penguin toy I bought him which is a baby for his giant penguin. DS going round on DDs shoulders both singing last Christmas. Eating a beautiful Yule Log cake which DS made with DH and DH brought it to me with a penguin decoration.

Beautiful Christmas meal, pigs in blanket and turkey from butchers were amazing. Gave DS one of mine so he had 6 as he loves them so much and just had one. Cat was very happy with her "big chicken" - she goes brruup when you cuddle her the first time and when you say the word chicken. She's blind so have to direct her but she purrs when she eats it. Lovely Christmas message from Italian friend. And first Christmas in our thatched cottage. Glad others had lovely days too.

My ds13 has been an absolute delight today. Thrilled with his presents, full of chat, helpful and just full of the joys. He's a bit 'teenage' at the moment so its been especially lovely to share a perfect day with him.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 25/12/2018 20:20

That the ds’s were here (every other Christmas arrangement with exes). Exchanging lovely gifts with both of them. A Christmas meal that all came together, and they both helped cook. Just that it was a super chilled day just the 3 of us.

letsdolunch321 · 25/12/2018 20:21

Great to read happy times, like others have mentioned not all Christmas days go brilliantly.

Mine has been wonderful, seen our families who have enjoyed spending time with us. Probably the first Christmas I have enjoyed and felt happy with in years. Cheers everyone 🍸

ComtesseDeSpair · 25/12/2018 20:22

All of it. My brothers and I are all adults. We and my parents have a lovely, low-key, restful day in each other’s company, at home with all our quirks and traditions and eccentricities. We stress over nothing. We laugh and make fun of each other and cooperate in making the dinner.

When I hear and read about all the tears and angst and drama with which so many other families conduct their Christmas; the pressure over meaningless details; people being “devastated” or “fuming” and falling out; I am endlessly grateful for what we have. It wouldn’t be worthy of Instagram and I have nothing of note to put on Facebook. But today, I am very happy Smile

Seeing the sheer joy in my 9 month olds eyes at receiving a book with a moving giraffe in it (she loves giraffes)and watching her giggle when she did something right on her new toy and kept clapping, ahhh so many gorgeous memories from her first Christmas well worth the 2am wake up that was caused by pesky teeth!

Calzone · 25/12/2018 20:23

I don’t celebrate Christmas so no presents, tree or turkey here but I haven’t worn a bra all day and that’s made me happy.

EvaHarknessRose · 25/12/2018 20:23

A nice snuggly moment with dh this morning

The young teens finding their voices more and being funny with guests

DH liking his presents

Everyone being complimentary about the food (for once hallelujah)

peachgreen · 25/12/2018 20:23

First Christmas with our much longed for daughter. Everything else was a bit meh but she (and my husband) were an absolute joy.

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 25/12/2018 20:26

This is the first Christmas I've had without my lovely partner who died in July. I'm spending today at home with 2 friends.

The most wonderful moment of today was the morning cuddle from my cat. She's the best.

LuxuryWoman2018 · 25/12/2018 20:28

It’s been a wonderful relaxed day, the most relaxing this year because my daughter has fought very hard to not invite her eating disorder to Christmas.
A lovely meal, no tears, no angst, just gorgeous gifts, a few drinks, chat and games and lounging. Everything feels so wonderfully normal for the first time in what feels like forever.

I’ll take today and deal with tomorrow, tomorrow.

While I’m here, isn’t tomorrow a funny word? Looks so weird the more you write it.

No, I haven’t drunk very much at all 🎅🏼😃

MorningsEleven · 25/12/2018 20:31

A shag and a bath with nice new stuff. Oh and happy kids blah blah.

Also orange gin.

Cheaplousyfaggot · 25/12/2018 20:37

I’ll take today and deal with tomorrow, tomorrow.

Absolutely. I had a sense this evening of wanting to "bank" the moment and enjoy the present.

Also, I magaed to get my dad and I long sold out tickets to see the Manic Street Preachers at one of the smallest and most intimate venues on their tour next year. The man is 66 years old and the look on his face when he opened the envelope and saw what was inside, he could just as well have been 6 and receiving the year’s hottest and most sought after toy Grin

CathyBigBalls · 25/12/2018 20:39

Woke my little girls up this morning and they had the biggest smiles on their faces!. I could’ve cried

GoulashSoup · 25/12/2018 20:43

wrong glad you’ve had some friends and your cat to keep you company Flowers

Binkybix · 25/12/2018 20:50

This morning my little boy was in bed and I said ‘happy xmas’. He said it back in a really small, sad voice. I realised he couldn’t see his gifts as I’d shoved them right at the end of his bed (I woke him up being Santa!) His little face lighting up when he saw them was wonderful.

And I was so proud that he tried to be brave about it.

MissWilmottsGhost · 25/12/2018 20:50

I gave DD (7) a stupid board game, ended up playing it with DD, MIL and BIL while other BIL, FIL and DH cheered us on. We all had the giggles, proper belly laughs you don't get often as a grown up.

DDog (14) leaping around like a puppy with her tail wagging so hard I thought she would fall over because of a giant chew present.

DD giving me a big squeeze hug at bedtime and sighing "best Christmas EVER mummy"

Smile
RangerLady · 25/12/2018 20:50

Today has been lovely for me because of no tantrums all day from Dd1 who is 4 next week. She leapt up at 7.45 with eyes wide "there are presents in my stocking!". Got a longed for gift "of my very own!". Let her baby sister play with her toys, patiently waited to open presents after baby's nap. At granny's was more keen to give gifts to others than tear into her own.
And I ate practically my own bodyweight in lush food I didn't cook!

MissWilmottsGhost · 25/12/2018 20:53

Flowers myarse

I hope the love of friends (furry and human) have made the day bearable.

goforkyourself · 25/12/2018 20:57

Spent a lovely day with my friends who cooked a gorgeous Christmas dinner. One of the friends has stage 4 cancer so it's unlikely he'll be here next year but it just made today more special.

They also gave me a huge doggy bag of leftover turkey to give to my cats. Which they all turned their noses up at ungrateful little fuckers

Haisuli · 25/12/2018 21:01

My 12 year old.has just made.me and his dad go up.to watch his.bath bomb fizz around, and now.he smells divine and is wearing his new fluffy dressing gown and hes prattling on about how many steps hea done on his new Fitbit. Feel happy and full.

Summerisdone · 25/12/2018 21:11

When giving my DS (4) a bath before bed tonight, he told me he's had the best Christmas ever, and that really made my day, especially as it's been just the two of us and I've not done Christmas with just the two of us before
