DC are asleep and I have no one to do a Merry Christmas toast with....so i hope someone might join me in a virtual toast?

Wine

I have had the perfect day. Nothing extraordinary but just exactly right. Its been a while since I have said that about Christmas, or even thought it possible to feel content.

Loveliest moments include DC helping with christmas dinner, DC1 recently declared he wants to be a chef when he grows up and did everything with me. So lovely having the cheerful company and help.

Perfect Christmas Day here to so Wine to that!

Had a tight budget so couldn’t afford what was on the kids Christmas lists (think LOL dolls, the creepy little things 😱) but Santa got them what he knew they’d love, not what they’d asked for. Youngest crying tears of happiness over her book set. Crackers, silly hats... bought them a snes with all the old games on. Cue us playing that for a couple of hours all together. Board game and terrible smooshy Christmas films with chocolates.

Then when they went to their dads this evening, OH and I playing donkey Kong together and drinking wine like we were 8 years old again (donkey Kong, not the wine...). OH now asleep in his pants, face down on sofa.

Blissful day.

"I said did he want me to take a pic of him with his stuff to post on instagram like his friends and be said no because imagine if someone didnt get much it would make them feel bad."

Aw Bunny that makes me well up! What a star your son is.

DSIL lost her lovely DH just 10 weeks ago. She came to us today and laughed a lot. Proper belly laughing. It was brief and welcome relief for her and great to see.

DailyMailDontStealMyThread · 26/12/2018 01:18

pirates I’m in the same boat as you. DC14 - still up sorting her room before she can go to bed!

She totally understood why her younger sister had more, she seemed to enjoy watching her open extra presents and I received my first hug of 2018 telling me I’m on point and smashed it.

That made my Christmas !

Lovingbenidorm · 26/12/2018 01:18

MaMisled that must have been really special for her.

4catsaremylife · 26/12/2018 01:23

My lovely DP came for lunch, Ddad is quite elderly and not very well so every Christmas with him is special now as we don't know how many more there will be. All my grown up DC are home which is a rarity now as my Daughter lives at the other end of the country and works really hard. I only have 2 days off (retail) so making the most of them.

JaceLancs · 26/12/2018 01:25

DS 25 hugging me and letting me cry on him because I’m upset about how poorly DF is
Spent 6 hours tonight in A & E with DF, DS helped me look after DM and drove both of us home later
DM has dementia and I’d had 2 large gins with Xmas lunch so wouldn’t risk driving o

Level11 · 26/12/2018 01:36

We had a lovely but quiet day with DM and DSF.
DSF had a big emergency operation less than three weeks ago so we're just very grateful he's well and has been able to enjoy himself. That was more than enough to make it a great day.

Pulipatchouli · 26/12/2018 08:03

Despite being in the middle of divorce proceedings, with all the sense of impending horror, we had a lovely Christmas day, the best ever, knowing it would be our last one as a unit.

PumpkinKitty82 · 26/12/2018 08:50

We gave dd7 an iPod touch for Christmas and she spent the day sending me iMessages telling me how much she loves me ❤️

Fridaydreamer · 26/12/2018 09:42

I got DD a gift she really thought she couldn’t have. Rather than opening it all the way up, as she started to open it and spotted what it was, she put it down and ran straight to me for a hug and to say thank you. The fact that her first instinct was to run to me & thank me & the way her face lit up made my day.

blackteasplease · 26/12/2018 09:44

Swimming in the pool where we are away for Xmas made it lovely!

Myheartbelongsto · 26/12/2018 09:52

Kids were happy with their gifts, we got them what they asked for and my boyfriend asked me to marry him which was a huge surprise.

Cheaplousyfaggot · 26/12/2018 10:23

I'm still having a nice time. Ex just dropped off really nice presents for me from my exPIL (who i miss a lot at Christmas). The house is now way too quiet with DC gone but i must confess i am a little cheered by some very posh chocolates and prosecco cocktail ingredients (i know listing presents is poor form....but how great are my 80 year old in laws?!).

Its been lovely to read the thread. I didn't know if it was insensitive to start it as christmas can be difficult for many.

Brew cheers again and Merry Christmas

We've both had a heavy cold so we've done very little. There's been no stress. Went to PIL for Christmas dinner, everyone was relaxed and having a lovely time. We wrapped our presents to each other on Christmas Eve and then opened them shortly after.

Our internet is down so instead of just sitting in front of the tv we've talked, told each other ghost stories and played Mario Kart. We went to bed with a hot water bottle and listened to an audio book. It was perfect.
Plus, two of our closest friends got engaged yesterday. It's all lovely.
