DC are asleep and I have no one to do a Merry Christmas toast with....so i hope someone might join me in a virtual toast?

Wine

I have had the perfect day. Nothing extraordinary but just exactly right. Its been a while since I have said that about Christmas, or even thought it possible to feel content.

Loveliest moments include DC helping with christmas dinner, DC1 recently declared he wants to be a chef when he grows up and did everything with me. So lovely having the cheerful company and help.

This is a really great thread!

I've spent the last 9 weeks with horrible morning sickness, it eased for 3 days and returned with a vengeance last night, ended up vomiting 4 times this morning and really thought I was going to end up in bed all day.

Started to feel a little bit better and went to my wonderful in laws for dinner as planned, it's our first Christmas as a married couple and my first not spent at my folks. I ended up having such a lovely day with plenty of laughs, they all bent over backwards to make sure I was ok and there was stuff I could eat and drink that wouldn't make me feel sick. I already knew I was lucky with my in laws but this really brought it home, I couldn't ask for better! On the way home we called in to see my family too. It just turned into such a lovely day after a rough start.

Strokethefurrywall · 25/12/2018 21:14

After a rocky start with a tantrumming 4 year old, things calmed down and both my boys have been awesome.
They've new Harry Potter Wanda so have spent the day practicing their spells and both ate loads of my roast dinner including Swede, broccoli and potatoes. No complaints either!

It's just after 4pm here so waiting for some friends to arrive whilst I sit half comatose and unable to breath properly due to eating too much!

Queenofthedrivensnow · 25/12/2018 21:17

I bought the kids a 2nd hand wii on a whim. They were overjoyed! I have been playing with them and dd1 who is 9 said 'I like this happy mummy' week before Xmas was a bit shit...

Lovely day spent with DM and DFIL, Aunt, my brothers and their wives and children. Children’s partners as well.
Family games and good food.
Family photos.
DC are all in their 20’s so all jobs shared. Great day all round.
Best photo DM and Aunt very serious in kitchen preparing their part of the meal, the strawberries, cherries and grapes to be served with the pavlova my niece made.
Brothers cooked the roasts, another provided the prawns. Salads by SIL’ s and nieces.

HoomanMoomin · 25/12/2018 21:24

When my 4 year old DD lift up her top to “breastfeed” her new baby doll. I went all warm and fuzzy inside.
When I opened a tiny jigsaw puzzle from my DH with picture of my favourite film.
When my DH’s eyes lit up when he opened his new pyjama bottoms. He asked for them, but didn’t think he’d get them.

Loving this thread 😊

We usually go to my Parents for dinner but this year we hosted here - my kids loved being in their own home all day. I hosted 11 including my DB, SIL and their grown up children, dinner was unexpectedly awesome and it was an afternoon filled with lots of laughing.

This evening me and the kids and their dad have all slumped in front of the TV watching a film.

It’s been the best Christmas Day for ages :)

OneStepMoreFun · 25/12/2018 21:27

Both DC hugged me and told me it was the best Christmas ever.
DFiL liked the gluten-free pud i made him even though he doesn;t much like my cooking usually.
Dinner turned out fine and DH has been bloody lovely all day.
Every one loved their presents.

(In case we sound sickly sweet, my own parents are really hard work and a phone call from my dad almost had me in tears this mrning but DH hugged me and told me to not let him get me down so I didn't. Had a lovely walk with DS 1 instead.

OverwateredCheeseplant · 25/12/2018 21:28

Dh was at the sink. I went up behind him and put my arms around him. Then ds came up behind me and put his arms around me. I was in the middle of a lovely family sandwich.

kaytee87 · 25/12/2018 21:28

Lots of things but mainly my husband and son. I'm so lucky.

Purpleartichoke · 25/12/2018 21:30

I lost my Mom recently and my relationship with my Dad can be difficult. Today I got to call him for help with instructions on how my DD should use her new art supplies. I didn’t even know half of what she was pulling out of one of the sketch kits and he got on video chat and explained everything.

MrsDeanWinchester75 · 25/12/2018 21:31

Seeing Dd5 creep into our room at 6am to see if we were awake because she'd found the presents in her stocking then dd3 standing clutching hers with wild bed hair and puffy eyes from just waking up.

Finally at bed time dd3 giving me a big hug and saying thank you for a lovely Christmas.

puddleduckmummy · 25/12/2018 21:34

I'll toast you! Our day was the best Christmas we've had! My DC have been so insanely excited about Christmas, I was expecting it all to be a bit too much today but it wasn't! They both behaved impeccably and were so thrilled and delighted with all their gifts. Plus our dinner was the bomb!! So good I want to eat it again right now! It's just been an amazing day xx

LoudestRoar · 25/12/2018 21:35

Today has been lovely. Yes, it's had its moments where we've snapped at each other, but overall, it's been a perfect Christmas.
I have a 2 and a 6 year old, and their excitement has just made it such a lovely day.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 25/12/2018 21:35

We stayed home for once.
We stayed in our pjs all day, the kids were nice, appreciative and helpful and we ate and drank just enough so we don't feel bloated or pissed.
It's been an excellent day. 😀

jq28 · 25/12/2018 21:38

My parents did a toast to us during dinner as we announced yesterday we are pregnant with our first. It was lovely!

PepsiLola · 25/12/2018 21:38

I have a 2yo DD, her speech is coming along but it's not quite there yet. When we went to Santa she was coy but did say she wanted a baby (meaning dolly).

Anyway when she opened a doll this morning she piped "my baby" then tried to get it out the box "mummy help me". She hasn't put the doll down and went to bed without getting up twenty times with this doll!!!!

My DS has been a pleasure too. It really has been my favourite Christmas!

MrsKiplingwasmymother · 25/12/2018 21:41

After feeling poorly for the last two months, I've enjoyed a lovely day and I'm feeling very grateful that our children and grandchildren still enjoy coming to us for Christmas Day. 10 of us round the table after opening presents, eating too much, then playing charades. It's a lot of work but we love seeing our family together. Every year we tell them they don't have to come, we are happy for them to stay in their homes if they want to but it seems they like being together.

Lolimax · 25/12/2018 21:44

I worked this morning (NHS) and one of the ladies was feeling very sad that she was in hospital. I helped her wash and put a clean nightie on, then soaked her feet before massaging them. She cried and said it made her day. It’s the little things sometimes isn’t it?

MorningsEleven · 25/12/2018 21:46

Also I had a lovely chat with MIL who's been very ill but feels better than she has in years and found out that an old friend from years ago and miles away lives just around the corner and we've been messaging each other and we're going to meet in the new year.

PumpkinPie2016 · 25/12/2018 21:46

A lovely day here too Xmas Smile

DS (5) was so pleased to get the main presents he had asked for (Lego and got wheels ultimate garage) and has had a lovely day playing with them.

We had a nice, peaceful morning and then had my parents, MIL, SIL/BIL, 2 nephews and MIL's friend for the afternoon/evening and Christmas dinner. Was really nice and the dinner couldn't have gone any better.

Tired now so relaxing with a brew in bed before sleep.

Canibuildasnowman · 25/12/2018 21:46

My youngest has been spontaneously singing all day, the older one asked if he could stay in pjs all day so we let him and he’s as happy as can be, the meal was delicious and everyone loved their gifts, the children were appreciative and sweet. The grandparents enjoying the kids. A family member turned up as a surprise ( weren’t expected until tomorrow) It’s just been a lovely day all round.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 25/12/2018 21:47

None of my children lives with us, so we had a lovely un-Christmas without having to do anything special. But son rang to say Merry Christmas and he will be coming over in March from his posting and bringing his delightful dog to stay with us for about a month while he and his wife and children go on holiday to New Zealand before his next posting starts, which is great, and the daughter posted abroad rang to say Merry Christmas and can she book lunch here on 11th next month when she is in the country for a few days, which was also great. Daughter in this country has three children under four years and doesn't want either visitors or to visit, so we had a sort-of-Christmas to deliver presents earlier this month.

Altogether it's been a wonderful day, relaxed and comfortable.

RandomUsernameHere · 25/12/2018 21:48

Seeing my DC rush downstairs and the excitement on their faces when they saw their presents and full stockings.
Watching them open their presents.
Playing mouse trap. I loved it as a child.
Being with my parents at their house. Love it here.

SheDoneAlreadyDoneHadHerses · 25/12/2018 21:51

I spent a lovely - argument-free - day with DM and we ate well, watched a film, chatted about shit, and really enjoyed each other. It was smashing.
Now I'm sat listening to 80s tunes on Alexa with a bottle of prosecco.

It's been utterly pleasant. You can ask for no more.

Treaclepie19 · 25/12/2018 21:52

Cheers Wine

Our 3yo has been a little superstar and made the day so lovely. His appreciation for his presents, food and everything has been delightful.
Just what we needed as we're right in the middle of grieving the little boy we lost (tfmr) 11 days ago.

I'm sure he will be a little monkey tomorrow but for today, he's really tried hard ❤
