Sleep in a bed for heavens sake

Just finished Christmas lunch, went to the loo and Mac me back into the living room to find MIL has made herself a nice bed on the sofa and gone to sleep. Her actual bed is about 10 steps away. AIBU to put Led Zeppelin on the hifi rather than tiptoeing round? I can almost forgive falling asleep on the sofa accidentally, although it irritates me and I would never do it, but deliberately settling down for a nap is just entitled. There are six other people in the house who can’t now socialise normally in the living room.

I'd poke her awake and make her go to bed if she wants to sleep. (Don't care if you have a hi-fi, btw, I'm answering your actual OP!) she's bloody rude and anti-social to do this so get her told.

dad and his dad are asleep within two second of sitting after lunch.but it depends if she really has "made a bed" on the sofa so others cant be there.
now cousin and sibling are getting older many of us have a post turkey doze.

splishysplashy · 26/12/2018 03:39

Oh bless her! Maybe she didn’t mean to be rude. I can imagine my mum feeling tired and wanting to have a nap but wanting to somehow stay connected to her family instead of taking herself off at such a special and family-orientated time of year and therefore nesting on the sofa. I wouldn’t hold it against her, but I would gently ask her to move to a bed if the sofa space is needed.

A good blast of Turn It On Again should do it. 😄

BikeRunSki · 26/12/2018 08:05

The drum intro to “Mama” is pretty rousing!

llangennith · 26/12/2018 08:09

Is she still napping on the sofa?

DeepanKrispanEven · 26/12/2018 08:35

Be ready for a repeat today, preferably lining up some toddlers to climb all over her.

chemenger · 26/12/2018 09:22

I shall be tactically defending the sofa today. I think what makes it irritating for me is that I love a little nap in bed in the day and I can’t understand why anyone would prefer a sofa that is too short to stretch out on, too narrow, not in a dark room and without a nice warm duvet. It just seems a bit ostentatious to have a planned nap in the middle of a busy room - look at me, i’m so central to your lives that even asleep I can’t deprive you of my presence.

If my host played early Genesis, I wouldn't be asleep, I'd be in a coma.

What the hell is wrong with hifi?

What else would you call a hifi?

chemenger · 26/12/2018 10:42

You have to call it a “Sound System” apparently, if you want to be down with the kids. Or a stereo which is fine, if a little bit Argos music centre.

Sound system reminds me of my pretentious aunt in the 80s Grin she insisted it was grander than it was Grin

Moussemoose · 26/12/2018 10:51

If it has got a Genesis LP on it it is by definition a hifi.

Did she make those weird asleep on a sofa grunts?

Miggeldy · 26/12/2018 14:23

Wake her up. Tell we to go lie down on her bed if she wants to sleep.

XmasHolly · 26/12/2018 14:48

She's probably awake by now I would imagine Hmm

chemenger · 26/12/2018 15:05

She’s been awake and asleep several times. Apparently lying in bed in the day makes her back hurt but lying on the sofa doesn’t. So I can’t complain really. I’m lying down on my bed this afternoon and avoiding the issue. Someone (genuinely not me) put a picture of her fast asleep in a chair this morning on the family WhatsApp, whereas I’m just talking about her behind her back.
