To think Rosemary potatoes don’t go with Christmas dinner?

DH is cooking and won’t allow anyone to help him beyond peeling potatoes etc ( the grunt work). He has insisted on smothering the roast potatoes with Rosemary. I asked him not to and he insisted. He is now stropping because I’ve asked him to make some more without any Rosemary in.

My family are very fussy eaters who like everything plain which DH knows already. I don’t particularly like Rosemary either and our small kids will freak out at the “yukky bits”. So AIBU to think he was being a plonker to do it in the first place?

Oh crap.... I have bought rosemary to do the same

Littlefish · 25/12/2018 13:18

Adding rosemary to potatoes is hardly revolutionary. I think you just need to relax. I would be pissed off if someone not cooking started interfering.

GobblersKnob · 25/12/2018 13:20

Rosemary on potatoes is awesome, ours will be adorned with, rosemary, oregano, parsley, paprika, salt and pepper. And the will be delicious.

SaucyJack · 25/12/2018 13:21

Awks. I’ve literally just covered mine in rosemary.

adaline · 25/12/2018 13:22

Rosemary potatoes are the best! YABU.

And a good rule of thumb is not to interfere with someone else's cooking! He's cooking, let him get on with him how he wants. When you cook, you can choose how the potatoes are done.

AhoyAhoy · 25/12/2018 13:22

I really fancy rosemary potatoes now.

PoesyCherish · 25/12/2018 13:22

Mine are having rosemary too.

Cherries101 · 25/12/2018 13:22

Rosemary is the most traditionally English seasoning there is. It’s a shame you like plain food but don’t go insulting the seasoning Wink

MrsStrowman · 25/12/2018 13:24

They sound delicious, let him crack on it's not his fault of your family have the tastes of toddlers you can always throw some potato waffles in if they're that bothered

PattiStanger · 25/12/2018 13:24

I think the “rules” around Christmas lunch are stupid, eat what you like, but making something that most people won't eat is also silly, why can't you have some with and some without?

Stephisaur · 25/12/2018 13:25

Rosemary potatoes are delicious.

YANBU though - your DH knows you don’t like seasoning, so should have considered that.

SuchAToDo · 25/12/2018 13:26

I think it sounds delicious, normal roast potatoes are good, but rosemary ones are so tasty...if the guests don't like it, tell them they can choose the menu when they host it themselves...you sound so picky..if I was your dh I'd have told you to cook your own plain roast potatoes

Rafflesway · 25/12/2018 13:27

I'm with you, OP!

Rosemary is vile with anything IMO. Your fussy eaters definitely won't touch them take it from another fussy eater Definitely make plenty without or you will have some ☹️ guests.

Frosty66611 · 25/12/2018 13:28

Rosemary roast potatoes with garlic and sea salt are the best.
He shouldn’t have made them like that if he knew the kids etc won’t eat them though. If I were him I would have done half rosemary and half plain

mamaslave18 · 25/12/2018 13:29

I didn’t say that I like plain food but that I don’t particularly like Rosemary. I must admit I’ve never heard of Rosemary potatoes with Turkey before but that’s obviously just me from the replies. I thought they were for Beef.

I think cooking for others and insisting on doing things you know they don’t like is just odd. I hate it when he insists on cooking as it is as he takes so blooming long. I prepped it all at 10.30 and the turkey came ready done. We planned to eat at 1pm and it’s still hours away from being ready.

Ugh fussy eaters.
Your children won’t eat tasty roasties because of the bits!!??
How old are they.
Sounds like a lovely combo. You all need to chill the fuck out and try something different for once in your lives

KimchiLaLa · 25/12/2018 13:31

I like rosemary on potatoes. Wouldn't do it on Xmas day but tbh I think Christmas lunch is quite bland which is why I add lots of gravy to everything. So actually - why not?

mamaslave18 · 25/12/2018 13:32

Kids are 2 and 5. Youngest won’t eat anything that’s not beige as it is.

I do like seasoning just not particularly Rosemary. I usually eat them if he makes them but he completely smothers them and I just really don’t fancy that today.

He's cooking so it's his shout really.

MorningsEleven · 25/12/2018 13:33

Love rosemary potatoes for Christmas lunch.

JustKeepSwimmingJustKeepSwimmi · 25/12/2018 13:34

Oooh I want Rosemary potatoes now! You sound very ungrateful or unsettled.

E20mom · 25/12/2018 13:35

I totally agree with you

jessstan2 · 25/12/2018 13:35

Once it's all covered in gravy no-one will notice the rosemary.
Rosemary actually adds a bit of flavour. Don't fret about it but enjoy your din dins.

Happy Christmas.

XmasPostmanBos · 25/12/2018 13:36

It goes with mine because I have roast lamb Grin

mamaslave18 · 25/12/2018 13:36

I sound unsettled because of a lighthearted thread about Rosemary potatoes? OK!

I have to say this thread was started light heartedly but some responders seem to be having a terrible day to have such shitty toned replies.
