What gifts have you bought for your loved ones that you can’t wait to see them open?

I’ll start - my SIL has a record player and I’ve got her an LP of a song she really loves and that means a lot to her.

Guinea pigs! Well a hutch and all the accessories-for the kids... honest! (Wanted guineas for about a decade)

Lucyccfc · 23/12/2018 23:21

I've got my DS a drum kit (electronic - don't want to annoy my lovely neighbours).

He has had a bad few years and has suffered a lot with anxiety and has been seeing a counsellor. He started drum lessons 6 months ago and was asked to perform in the Christmas concert at school. I never thought he would be able to get on stage and do it, but he did and was brilliant. I was so proud, I don't mind admitting that I cried.

He is so excited about his drums and has brought some peices of music home, so he can practise for his first exam.

I'm just as excited as he is and can't wait for Christmas morning.

CatLadyToddlerMother · 23/12/2018 23:22

I’ve got my mum an oil burner she’s been after for years can’t wait to see her face.

cheesenpickles · 23/12/2018 23:24

Ds has a barbie Dreamhouse. Can not wait to see her face!

Tcga745 · 23/12/2018 23:34

A note book with “Business Secrets of the Pharoahs” by Mark Crorrigan and a Pinky and the Heiselbrain tshirt as stocking fillers for my son. He is the only other person I know who’ll realise how great these are... am desperate for him to open his stocking!

Summerisdone · 23/12/2018 23:46

I can't wait for my DS(4) to open his SNES game console. His older cousin has a Switch which DS loves to play, but not only was the price of the Switch fat too much for my budget, I also felt he wasn't old enough for a console like that just yet, so I researched and feel the SNES is a good option for him and he's still going to be so excited to have a games console of his own.

I'm also really looking forward to gifting my sister her Rocket Notebook I bought. It acts like a normal notepad but when the page is scanned with her phone all the handwritten notes will upload to her laptop to save, and then she can wipe away the page with a damp cloth and reuse the notebook for more notes. She likes stationary and is into technology so I thought this would tick both boxes and she's also in the middle of her GCSEs so would come in handy for revision etc.

HostessTrolley · 23/12/2018 23:47

My prickly son is outwardly annoyed but secretly pleased at being adopted by his uni housemates cat. I’ve bought him the book ‘How to tell your cat is plotting to kill you’ which is just his humour. I bought my dd a ‘ffs’ stamp for her A level revision which will entertain her greatly

5foot5 · 23/12/2018 23:48

KittyClaus In a similar vein I have got DH a board game based on the Apollo XIII mission which appears to be only available in the US so I had to get it through amazon.com. I think it will go down well.

GunpowderGelatine · 23/12/2018 23:49

I did a 60 mile round trip today to get my DD some Spy X night vision goggles from Argos - they're sold out everywhere and I snagged the last pair within a 100 mile radius. I told her that Santa has said she can only have the last pair in the whole country (alight exaggeration for effect) if she leaves him her dummy (we've been building up to this for months and it's the final incentive for her to give it up). She had better bloody like them, even though they look shit Confused

YankOnTheShelf · 23/12/2018 23:51

@JinglebellsJulie Merry Christmas to you too!

Father Christmas told me to buy it. Xmas Smile

StillMedusa · 23/12/2018 23:57

Not me but DS1, 25, has an engagement ring ready to pop the question on Xmas day!!! His girlfriend is Aussie and is living with us..we adore her !

Getting the right size was a family mission Grin as DD2 'borrowed' one of her rings to make sure DS1 got the right size, and it is being wrapped in a little wooden engraved box, and a ton of other boxes on top. We have no doubt she will say yes and I can't wait... they are so happy together , there will be 9 of us here on Xmas day to celebrate!

Pachyderm1 · 23/12/2018 23:58

Oh god i’m actually feeling a bit teary, this thread is so lovely

DH loves the white haribo jelly babies, so I made up a bag full of white jelly babies (I’m so sick of eating the other colours now after having to get through a few bags to have enough white ones!). It’s just a stocking filler but I think he will really like it. I’ve got him a voucher for an off road driving experience that he will love also.
Our eldest DD is really difficult to buy for- she has aspergers, isn’t into toys at all and tends to not want to ‘spoil’ anything she gets so stationery etc goes untouched. This year I’ve got her the HP sprocket as she has just got her first phone for her 11th birthday recently, along with some peg fairy lights to go with it. I don’t think she knows that mini phone printers exist so I think she will be over the moon with it! Also got her an electric handwarmer that is also a power bank which will be right up her street too.

AlanThePig · 24/12/2018 00:19

Ds a burger press with lots of spices. He loves cooking so will really enjoy that and a light up ball for his cat which will amuse him more than it.

DD a beautiful disney codello scarf which she will just love.

DH a weather station, something he's talked about for months.

tumpymummy · 24/12/2018 00:19

@llaregub where did you get a personalised nutella jar from?! DD would have loved that! I've got her a Christmas 1kg jar which I think she'll like, which is sooo heavy!

LegallyBrunet · 24/12/2018 01:10

My partner loves trains and has always wanted to start a Hornby collection. There is now a Hornby starter set wrapped up under our tree for him.

wheelygo · 24/12/2018 01:10

@tumpymummy I’ve seen a stall in Debenhams for the personalised nutellas!

InglouriousBasterd · 24/12/2018 01:25

Oh this is wonderful. DD has a penguin cuddly toy to go with her beloved (handed down from me) Percy penguin...she said he needed a girlfriend in passing Grin

I think the Hugh Jackman tickets will blow her mind too!!

ArtyFartyQueen · 24/12/2018 04:13

Pretty excited to see both of the kids open their presents! DS16 has got the parts to make his own gaming PC and DS8 has got an electric drum kit and lessons for the new year! DH has got lots of practical things as is starting a new job but I hope he’s happy. Also can’t wait to give one of our nieces her pressie, which is an echo dot. It’s not something she has asked for but I’m 98% positive that she will love it!

ArtyFartyQueen · 24/12/2018 04:16

Loving reading all these ideas. StillMedusa, please do update us with the answer!!

BetsyBigNose · 24/12/2018 04:42

@Summerisdone Star I have never heard of a Rocket Notebook, but I've just had a nose at them on Amazon and I'm totally sold! Thank you very, very much for your post!

I'm forever scribbling down notes on receipts and random scraps of paper and I even carry an A5 paper diary in my handbag, but I still run out of space for noting down shopping lists, things to do, phone calls to make etc. and then I lose the notes (or if I'm using an actual notebook, I'll leave it at work, on the coffee table or in a different handbag) so this sounds like exactly the thing I needed but never knew existed - does it mean that once I've written stuff down I'll be able to get to it from anywhere (cos I always manage to remember to keep my phone with me so will be able to access the cloud)?

Having told DH I had no idea what I'd like for Christmas (so him saying he'll get me something small to open on the day, but he'd buy me something once I knew what I'd like), I now know just what to ask for - he might even have time to walk into town tomorrow whilst I'm at the cinema watching Mary Poppins with our DDs! Xmas Grin

Thanks again, and I hope your DSis appreciates her Rocket Notebook just as much as I anticipate I'm going to! @Pachyderm1 - what a wonderful idea for a thread, Happy Christmas one and all!

JWrecks · 24/12/2018 04:50

DNiece, shy and always been VERY hard to buy for, got a jewelry making kit with tiny adorable vials that she can put coloured sand, tiny flowers, glitter, or whatever will fit inside, with chains and of course loads of filler stuff. Heard that she was asking for necklaces this year, so... SCORE! Everyone I've told about it thinks she'll love it and even want to try her hand at making other things! I am dyyyyiiiiing to give it to her already!

CustardOmlet · 24/12/2018 05:43

We have bought a family Switch. DS is 6 so a bit young to have his own console but loves playing on the PC games with DH. DS hadn’t played with one or really seen one until a few days ago, and now he thinks it’s too later to ask for one for Christmas. He’s going to be made!

Pandamodium · 24/12/2018 05:50

It's been a tight year but managed to get oldest DD an Apple Watch.

She's going to be over the moon.

DD2 decided to tell me last night at 9pm she hoped Santa remembered her robot cat she's never bastard asked me about once so my dad is going to Argos today to buy a robot cat Hmm

Raven88 · 24/12/2018 06:06

I bought my grandparents a musical tea tin and a tea pot, that one was a lucky find.
