What is the first thing you would think of? Would you give it a second thought at all? This is just a poll cause I wanna know.

Someone at my work (young man) has this. I suspect medical condition of some type, but wouldn't ask - none of my business.

Kariana · 24/12/2018 19:21

I get awful trembling hands when I'm very hungry. Could be that.

XmasFairy7 · 24/12/2018 19:23

I know someone young with trembling hands & it was a neurological thing left over from being in a car crash. (brain damage) I also know many people with severe ptsd through my work & not one of them has trembling hands, so that wouldn't enter my mind. I see plenty of trembling legs though...

dragonara53 · 24/12/2018 19:26

Benign tremors, I am going to see a neurologist soon to see if my shaking hands ( which I've had since my teens) is benign or if there's something else as it's got worse with age.

Dusty27 · 24/12/2018 19:29

@ConfusedWife1234 I wouldn’t immediately think of PTSD, like others have said I’d think of other medical conditions before that. My husband also has PTSD & it’s so hard to help him. Have you found any “good” help? Imve been searching for years, tried various medications & couple of types of counselling with little progress. I know it’s hard but try & reassure him that while it seems obvious to him most people won’t even see the tremour xxxx

Hefzi · 24/12/2018 19:30

I have very severe anxiety, but it has never occurred to me before this thread that it could cause shaking: like PP's, my first thought would be benign essential tremor, but only because that's what runs in my own family. I posted on your other thread, op - but please do keep encouraging your husband to speak honestly about this with his gp Flowers

Buunylover · 24/12/2018 19:32

My friends hands tremble when she has her steroid inhaler.

DarcieStarlight · 24/12/2018 19:59

Initially I would assume alcoholism. Mainly because my father was an alcoholic and I've seen his shaky hands from being a child.
But now I feel absolutely god awful that I'm such a judgey cow as reading the rest of the responses on here it would seem so many of you are kind hearted and wouldn't assume the worst like I did.

dahliaaa · 24/12/2018 20:10

Nervous / anxious

ElsieMc · 24/12/2018 20:20

GS (15) has this. It is called essential tremor. It doesnt affect his school work but can be quite strong. It gets worse if he is very hungry and doesn't affect his daily life. It can go away on it's own but he has been prescribed medication for interviews etc so he doesn't have to worry about it. Strangely as alcohol has been mentioned on the thread, the GP told us that alcohol does in fact reduce tremors - obvs she wasn't recommending it to a fifteen year old!

Gooseygoosey12345 · 24/12/2018 20:40

I probably wouldn't notice, but if I did I'd think either he's cold, or he is nervous, or he needs to eat something. I have shaky hands due to heart issues but funnily enough I don't assume anyone else with shaky hands has a heart condition 🤷🏻‍♀️

Gooseygoosey12345 · 24/12/2018 20:42

@ConfusedWife1234 just read your update, never would have thought of PTSD, it's also nothing to be ashamed of (which you know). I totally get why your husband would be conscious of it though. I hope things improve for him

NorksAreMessy · 24/12/2018 20:47

I would notice, be mildly concerned, but basically consider it was none of my business.

As an aside, folklore says that if a robin dies in your hands, your hands will always tremble.

umpteennamechanges · 24/12/2018 21:05

I'd assume either side effects of medication or an essential tremor (my ex DP had this)

HarryTheSteppenwolf · 24/12/2018 21:28

Hyperthyroidism
Anxiety
Flu
Hefty dose of salbutamol to counter severe asthma attack
It's cold outside
Cocaine/amphetamine

Too young for Parkinson's

MsLexic · 24/12/2018 22:27

Medication for psychotic conditions can have this effect.
Post drug use
Nerves
If it is continuous I would assume neurological effect from meds.
It is observed as an effect with meds for schizophrenia.

Retired65 · 24/12/2018 22:37

My son's hands sometimes slightly shake when he is pouring out a glass of water. He is dyspraxic. (Co-ordination disorder)

WarCat · 24/12/2018 22:38

Alcoholic

TovaGoldCoin · 24/12/2018 23:35

ConfusedWife1234 a very young woman has been on Instagram doing a promotion for parkinsonism, she is 30? I think

TheClaws · 24/12/2018 23:46

I have a tremor all the time due to MS. I would never judge anyone else’s tremor as anything without knowing them - I hope your husband gets the help and support he needs x

Teagoanngoanngoann · 25/12/2018 00:14

I have dystonia and it causes terrible tremors. Also epilepsy, medication, anxiety and essential tremor. I wouldnt have thought of ptsd. I hope this puts his mind at rest re tremors. Merry xmas x

nannykatherine · 25/12/2018 01:42

micheal j fox got parkinson’s when he was young

BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 25/12/2018 02:03

I have a benign essential tremor. I shake all the time and have since I was a baby.

I’ve heard all of it-

Are you cold? Nervous? On drugs? An alcoholic? All of the above?

I’ve also had the shit jokes- ‘your boyfriends a lucky fella, you can give a hand job even when you’re asleep!’ ‘Does your mouth shake as well?’.

I’ve learned to laugh at myself before anyone else does. I have heard every insult and joke going. I’ve sustained some serious injuries due to my condition.

People can be complete shits. I’ve been refused service in shops, been told I shouldn’t be allowed to look after my kids as I’m clearly some sort addict.

My favourite type of people are those who don’t stare but ask if I’m ok as I’m shaking. I then simply explain its a neurological thing.

Just ask if he’s ok.

moredoll · 25/12/2018 02:06

my first thought would be anxiety.

AleFailTrail · 25/12/2018 02:22

When my anxiety kicks in I can barely hold my phone my hands shake so much.
