To complain to tesco about date

Butterflysprinkles · 22/12/2018 21:12

So I've just had my Tesco delivery. And I pre ordered the turkey and desserts.

The chocolate desserts which I paid £20 are out of date xmas eve.

Should I complain? Are the pre orders supposed to have a date until xmas day? Im not sure.. Never pre ordered the christmas entertaining food before..

Did you accept it? You should have handed back to the driver and got a refund

KatnissMellark · 22/12/2018 21:13

Yes, no massive need to complain though, just ask them to put it right.

RiddleyW · 22/12/2018 21:13

I’d complain but also I’d definitely eat them one day over.

AuditAngel · 22/12/2018 21:14

Definitely complain, usually things with a short shelf life are highlighted for you to decide if you want to accept them or not.

Wolfiefan · 22/12/2018 21:14

Surely they just have to be in date when they arrive with you? Another reason I don’t order online.

Lazypuppy · 22/12/2018 21:15

Did you ask for a date past xmas day on each item? If not, the pickers will just pi k up first one available

Nissemand · 22/12/2018 21:16

I thought stuff from the 'Entertaining' range (the stuff that gets locked to your order, and cane be removed after a certain point) had a date guarantee.

For very fresh stuff though, cream based things, salads, cut fruit, the guarantee might only be for one or two days ahead.

Look on the website and see how many days they indicate.

rubaduhlo · 22/12/2018 21:17

I think you'd be unreasonable to complain as you've already accepted it all and the food isn't in date. For all they know, the deserts could be for tomorrow. Food deliveries often have short dates as they pick the first ones off the shelf. I realise that you are probably stuck for time, but I think getting down to the shop to choose your own dates would be easier.

AveEldon · 22/12/2018 21:19

It's worth complaining
Online items usually have a guide date range online

Butterflysprinkles · 22/12/2018 21:19

I didnt know I could specify a date on the entertaing range.

They came inside blue boxes i didnt open them until the driver left.

Will they refund?

I feel like im going to have to eat all 8 myself by xmas eve because of the price.

They say used by 24th. Would they be OK to eat? On 25th?

Can you freeze any of them?

HugeAckmansWife · 22/12/2018 21:20

Of course they'll be fine.

BeakyPlinder · 22/12/2018 21:20

They will probably refund you online if you log into your account and report the items. I accepted yoghurts from Asda that we're out of date as I don't check each individual item before the delivery man leaves and they just refund the money

DivaDroid · 22/12/2018 21:21

If you ordered from the festive catalogues, you should have been told that the desserts will only have a 2 day expiration - you could call and ask for new ones, but virtually all the festive order items have all been allocated, so you may not get the exact ones.
That's possibly why it wasn't highlighted at delivery, as they would have assumed that you were aware of the short dates on these items.
(I do work for them instore Xmas Wink)

Butterflysprinkles · 22/12/2018 21:22

Ok so I just checked and it says +3days

If you’re worried freeze now and get out Christmas Eve to eat Christmas Day. The food doesn’t know it goes out of date at midnight that night!

southnownorth · 22/12/2018 21:24

If you check on the Tesco site there should be a day sign next to the item. eg 2+ days, that's how long it should have left on it, they are meant to tell you if it's a short date.

southnownorth · 22/12/2018 21:25

Sorry just seen you checked, in that case the 24th is within the limits as they count today, which is annoying.

newmun · 22/12/2018 21:26

You can contact customer service and they will refund you

SweetieP1e · 22/12/2018 21:29

If they weren't highlighted as short dated you should get a refund. The drivers should go through the receipt so you are aware of any short-dated or exchanged items.

.... I would eat them on Christmas Day. If it looks ok and smells ok I'd give it a taste and if that was fine I'd happily eat it.

Ellisandra · 22/12/2018 21:31

It’s one day. I just wouldn’t sweat the small stuff on this. They’ll be fine. Don’t complain.

KittyMcTitty · 22/12/2018 21:31

Tesco are pretty good - ring them up!

MyDcAreMarvel · 22/12/2018 21:33
  • 3 days is right then 22,23,24 th.
CripsSandwiches · 22/12/2018 21:34

Did you accept it? You should have handed back to the driver and got a refund

Surely no one has time to check all the sell by dates. That does sound annoying OP I would complain. I've also had some ridiculous substitutions - some smoked salmon canapes clearly as party food substituted for tinned salmon - I rejected that. The worst I heard of was a kiwi substituted for kiwi scented boot polish!

adaline · 22/12/2018 21:34

It's one day, it'll be fine!
