To complain to tesco about date

Butterflysprinkles · 22/12/2018 21:12

So I've just had my Tesco delivery. And I pre ordered the turkey and desserts.

The chocolate desserts which I paid £20 are out of date xmas eve.

Should I complain? Are the pre orders supposed to have a date until xmas day? Im not sure.. Never pre ordered the christmas entertaining food before..

I'd just eat them. As long as they pass the sniff test.

Veterinari · 22/12/2018 22:00

It’s a best before not a magical ‘turn-to-poison-date’
Just eat it on the 25th!

rubaduhlo · 22/12/2018 22:02

skittles I'm fairly certain there won't be any fish or meat in a chocolate dessert, those are the only things I'd be more wary of over the use by date.

Orchiddingme · 22/12/2018 22:02

I had this today in Aldi. The dessert I wanted was dated 24th. We decided to risk it. So much better to eat profiteroles for dessert instead of horrid Christmas pudding!

Cheeeeislifenow · 22/12/2018 22:03

OP, if you post a pic of the ingredients list, someone on here with food science knowledge will likely be able to give you specifics.

It's a. Chocolate pudding the worst possible thing in it could be cream. If that is off you will know..because of your nose and if it's gone bad 12 hours later after being stored in the fridge then it was never going to be okay to eat ... Highly unlikely.

TrashPanda · 22/12/2018 22:10

My Yule log from the festive food to order range came in a blue box has a use by of 24th but I checked while the delivery person was here. She agreed it was crap, refunded and left it with me. The normal range trifle and cheesecake had ok dates. Will try a bit before I let anyone else have any and if it's off they can have an alternative, expecting it to be fine though. In the same order I had some stewing steak that had lots of fat and gristle through, sent a message through Facebook and had a response in minutes refunding that too. Definitely complain, I pointed out that for the special order stuff it's ridiculous for it to be out of date before 25th.

You cannot smell listeria www.nhs.uk/conditions/listeriosis/ please inform people of you intend to serve.

bellie710 · 22/12/2018 22:18

You can't specify any dates but you can refuse any food that is not within an acceptable use by range. Phone them and ask for a refund they will refund you.

Aridane · 22/12/2018 22:26

Did you accept it? You should have handed back to the driver and got a refund

Lol at the idea of restraining delivery man while going through each item to assess use by dates and / or quality I order to decide whether to reject items for driver to process refund

MilkyCuppa · 22/12/2018 22:28

If the date is shorter than listed on the website they will refund. 3 days from today is 25th so the date is shorter than advertised.

user1511042793 · 22/12/2018 22:30

I complained and got a full refund. Still planning on eating it. It’s good customer service if disappointing it happened like this.

Butterflysprinkles · 22/12/2018 22:34

@smoothyloopy thats the same thing as what I did. (page 2)

I dont check all the dates. And it wasnt marked as a early date item.

I will try calling customer service again.
Someone said about best beforr. This item is a Use by date which is why I was a little worried. I have told the guests and they said it would be fine, but ive had food poisining from eating an item 2 days over (unknowingly) and now I cant eat anything past the use by date.

StoorieHoose · 22/12/2018 22:38

Got the wrong end of the stick - my driver always says if something is short dated. Obviously you can’t chrck every item for dates

Butterflysprinkles · 22/12/2018 22:40

Ok so the 3+ days. Includes the day of delivery.

And if you pre order any of their christmas entertaining food it doesnt last until christmas day.

At least I know not to order there entertaining food again.

SassitudeandSparkle · 22/12/2018 22:42

I think there was a warning about this in their food catalogue, it said something about the dates if you had stuff delivered 21st and 22nd tbh - it is a pain though.

fishonabicycle · 22/12/2018 22:43

Oh just eat them. They will be fine

Amanduh · 22/12/2018 22:43

Jesus. Eating them 12 hours after the sell by date won’t matter.

MrsBuckettt · 22/12/2018 22:44

Do it. This has happened to me and they gave me a refund

Lilymoose · 22/12/2018 22:45

Just email them, I got some muller rice in my delivery a week out of date and they refunded me double the amount.

whereareallthenannies · 22/12/2018 22:46

Just send them a quick fb message. That is what I do and they refund there and then.

Skatersbeskating · 22/12/2018 22:48

You could have been substituted with some cat biscuits or scourers.

Butterflysprinkles · 22/12/2018 22:48

I called them. They didnt orffer me anything just said the date includes todays date

You are being unbelievably dramatic!
It’s a chocolate pudding!
Perfectly safe to give to guests without issuing a government health warning!

Ariela · 22/12/2018 22:53

Logically speaking, if the food is marked 'best before' they're going to have to have a 2-3 day leeway on this a) to be 100% sure of their best before date and b) so that anyone eating at 1 minute before midnight on 24/12 is fine. It doesn't automatically 'go off' as soon as it's 25/12, I'm sure it'll taste just as nice on Christmas Day as it will the day before provided you store as directed.

Amazonian27 · 22/12/2018 22:53

Definitely complain that’s awful. At the very least I would expect a refund for the inconvenience we don’t even cook ours till Christmas Day. I would also go on their social media site.
Just collected our turkey tonight from M&S and some bits n bobs with DH. He put milk in the trolley without checking dates which had 23rd Dec on. A few other things also had very short useby dates of 23rd and 24th.
