... that the Xmas Radio Times is now £4.90???

£4.90??????? That's 98 shillings in the old money.

I'm staggered! Shock

TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 21/12/2018 22:35

I'm shocked people still buy TV magazines.

FlyMayBaubles · 21/12/2018 22:55

To be fair, I only buy it once a year Smile

Alienspaceship · 21/12/2018 22:57

That’s exactly what I said (in my head) in the newsagents. I’ve never bought one before but thought I would based on fond childhood memories of agreeing the TV schedule over Xmas.

Youcancallmeval · 21/12/2018 23:00

I agree - I was Shock when I saw the price. Still bought it though, it's an essential part of our Christmas. Dd has been v busy with the highlighter.

WhatwouldCJdo · 21/12/2018 23:06

I always buy it at Christmas but just stuck it in my trolley and didn't spot the price.
I will read it cover to cover now and do the crossword.

It reminds me of my Grandma (who would cut up pictures in old issues for quizzes at Christmas of guess the advert and guess the celebrity. Happy Days...

user10001999 · 21/12/2018 23:06

I have a app that I pay to download magazines
TV guide was included but dh insisted we buy tv times at £3.50 cause it's Christmas. Grin

3boysandabump · 21/12/2018 23:12

I couldn't believe it! It was the most expensive thing on my receipt when I looked. I only buy it once a year and it's tradition now so I'll still buy it whatever it costs

MegGriffin · 21/12/2018 23:14

And this year it doesn't have the foldy cover to mark your page.

JustABetterPlayer · 21/12/2018 23:15

You clearly have access to the internet making said magazine utterly obsolete.

CurbsideProphet · 21/12/2018 23:15

I refused to pay that much and got a cheaper version for £1.30 Xmas Grin

InspectorIkmen · 21/12/2018 23:16

I said exactly this to the man who owns the newsagents I use. Actually I said it proper Victor Meldrew style and I’m still outraged now.
Luckily he’s a lovely man so he doesn’t take me seriously. If I’d been buying it in W H Smith is have put it down and stalked out in disgust. 😂

halcyondays · 21/12/2018 23:20

Remember when you used to have to buy both the TV Times and the Radio Times to get all the channels?

Kewcumber · 21/12/2018 23:24

This thread proves once and for all what DS is constantly telling me... only old people watch TV these days.

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 21/12/2018 23:27

I had my first outrage at the price last year so I have bought the cheap £1.20 version instead.

Thisimmortalcurl · 21/12/2018 23:28

I know ! So expensive.
I still bought it though .. it feels very traditional.
Do you remember when there was radio times for BBC and TV times for ITV and 4 .
I’m sure that’s what I remember in childhood.

Thisimmortalcurl · 21/12/2018 23:29

Same post Hal! Must be true then.

babysharkah · 21/12/2018 23:32

Dh ought it, was horrified at the price, and even more horrified the kids didn't get the point of it when they can catch up, on demand etc.

powershowerforanhour · 21/12/2018 23:33

Well going by this thread it's probably dear because everyone only buys it at Christmas now.

MintEye · 21/12/2018 23:36

I didn't even know this was a thing! I'm seriously behind the times. I never imagine that there's anything on worth watching over Christmas, and just assume I can use catch up if I need to. What am I missing out on?!

covetingthepreciousthings · 21/12/2018 23:38

I only get it once a year.. pretty much purely for the big picture quiz, one of my favourite things about Christmas Blush
This year due to the £4.90 price tag, my mother has asked me to WhatsApp her pictures of it so she can still do it too, CF.

Cakemonger · 21/12/2018 23:39

Yep, I muttered 'daylight robbery' under my breath, bought it anyway and went home

HarryTheSteppenwolf · 21/12/2018 23:40

This thread proves once and for all what DS is constantly telling me... only old people watch TV these days.

I'm old (55), and even I wouldn't be able to find more than half a dozen programmes in the two-week Christmas Radio Times that I'd want to watch. My daughters (19 & 16) are barely aware there's a television set in the house, and even then they only know it as a device for accessing NetFlix.

MamaLovesMango · 21/12/2018 23:45

I’ve just been flicking through the electronic guide on the telly to fond things I might want k record tomorrow (I like recording films for the DCs to watch all year round) and it’s impossible. I’m going to have to buy a Radio times tomorrow!

AlpacaLypse · 22/12/2018 00:14

I bought RT religiously for Christmas until 2 years ago, but was 1. shocked by price and 2. realised halfway through January that none of us had actually looked at it or used it, as it was shoved in the corner and covered with dust.
