She's here no doubt spreading the norovirus to every customer and staff member. She looks ill has thrown up twice in staff loos and is complaining that her stomach is in bits. Manager has told her she can go home yet she's still here.

Aibu to think she's being vvvvur to still be here. Potentially spreading the norovirus to every family she serves today now?

Well yes but your manager is most at fault. Presumably she's worried about losing her job

StealthPolarBear · 21/12/2018 19:27

Completely misread that sorry!

AloneLonelyLoner · 21/12/2018 19:27

YANBU. It’s an appalling way to behave. Mind you the manager should have demanded she go home, not said she could.

StealthPolarBear · 21/12/2018 19:27

In that case she ibu

ikltownofboothlehem · 21/12/2018 19:28

Are you sure it's norovirus and she's not pregnant / hungover?

Purpleartichoke · 21/12/2018 19:29

She might be pregnant. My morning sickness was awful and extended. I got sick constantly at work and looked dreadful. If I had gone home, I would have missed the entire 9 months. Instead I tried to never stray to far from a trash can.

Ginandsonicscrewdriver · 21/12/2018 19:30

I take it there is no sick pay? I can understand it this close to Christmas.

StealthPolarBear · 21/12/2018 19:30

I assume she's a waitress. Even if she is pregnant or hungover it's not the sort of job you can do vomiting

purplerainbows · 21/12/2018 19:31

Maybe she is pregnant

Hecticlifeanddrowning8 · 21/12/2018 19:31

Omg I would be fuming ! She will be recovered by Christmas and her colleagues and customers will be coming down with norovirus.

Littlehotdog · 21/12/2018 19:36

As pp have said it could be pregnancy (depending on her of course!). I threw up a few times at work and I know people felt I was unreasonable not to go home until I told them I was pregnant! I did even do the whole pretending I had a bug thing!

cheesywotnots · 21/12/2018 19:37

She needs to go home, will management arrange to deep clean and close the toilet. Hope she's okay but she shouldn't be at work. What job is it?

ZoeZebra1 · 21/12/2018 19:40

Lady I work with came in Monday after a weekend of vomiting and diarrhea. Her husband also had it, but 48 hrs after her. When I try her to go home she changed the story to say its food poisoning!! I was so angry, bit more angry that on Wednesday they both flew a long hual flight to go away for Christmas, probably infecting everyone on that plane. So selfish!

ZoeZebra1 · 21/12/2018 19:41

Apologies for typos!

FoxFoxSierra · 21/12/2018 19:46

Maybe she's pregnant/hungover/migraine/on medication with side effects? If she knows it could be something contagious she is being very unreasonable, especially this close to Xmas

DarkDarkNight · 21/12/2018 20:04

If it is definitely a stomach bug or something like that then she should go home, but you can be sick for other non-infectious reasons. I have headaches that make me sick.

StealthPolarBear · 21/12/2018 20:05

Vomiting waitresses are not good for business no matter the reason!

Moominfan · 21/12/2018 20:06

I hate work place Martyrs

AWishForWingsThatWork · 21/12/2018 20:07

She might not be ill ... there are other possibilities

Bunnyfuller · 21/12/2018 20:08

We’re diagnosing norovirus on what evidence? It’s not the only cause of vomiting. She could have had a dodgy Christmas meal out (too much sherry)

FoodieToo · 21/12/2018 20:09

How would anyone know what virus was making someone ill? Am I missing something?

TheBubGrower · 21/12/2018 20:14

Even if it's food poisoning the bugs in that can be highly contagious. Even if the source was food, once the bug is in your body it comes out exactly the same way as other bugs... Those PPs saying it could be food poisoning (and therefore fine) are being U 😁

Lovemusic33 · 21/12/2018 20:16

Yes, she should have gone home if she was obviously unwell. She said her stomach was in bits which probably indicates a bug, she’s selfish to risk passing it around to customers. I have a huge phobia of catching a bug, I wish people were more careful and stayed at home when sick. Most work places I have worked in follow the 48 hour rule (I work with food and people), there are no exceptions even if it’s morning sickness as the risk is too high (if it is a bug).

swimmerforlife · 21/12/2018 20:18

How do you no it's norovirus?

icannotremember · 21/12/2018 20:21

Are you sure she's got an illness and isn't just hungover or pregnant?
