I have a supermarket delivery booked for tomorrow and have just gone online to add a couple of things. I scrolled through the items I ordered (on 26 Nov when this weekend's slots became available), only to discover that the free range chicken for Christmas lunch is no longer available. Several other chickens and turkeys had also sold out.

You may want to check your own deliveries.

I've complained saying that knowing since the end of November what people had ordered, they should have reserved sufficient to cover all the orders for the next three days.

This is why I don't dare get an online shop at this time of year. I shop at morrisons and they rarely have substitutions and I think I read somewhere that they and ocado use a different method for allocating stock so you tend to get fewer substitutions. Maybe try them next time.

minisoksmakehardwork · 21/12/2018 18:03

I had this with packs of bacon. I didn't bother adding anything else and figured I'd get what I wanted in an actual supermarket, but it did turn up with my delivery.

I quite agree that if they have taken the order and a token payment for it, there should be a way of ensuring enough stock is available on the day they pick your order.

minisoksmakehardwork · 21/12/2018 18:04

I can only assume between me seeing the message and them picking the order they had another delivery. So fingers crossed you will find the same.

SoupDragon · 21/12/2018 18:04

Doesn't it just mean that there are none available for new orders?

Cherries101 · 21/12/2018 18:05

Morrisons have a link up with Amazon and so always keep a lot of stock in areas popular with Amazon grocery. Use them. Or better go in person.

Nanasueathome · 21/12/2018 18:05

Have your ordered items been removed from your shopping trolley
I know that with some supermarkets they allocate the items so that they are available for pre ordered but no longer available to be added to your basket

StayAChild · 21/12/2018 18:10

That is so annoying and a pretty important item. Which supermarket? I hope you manage to find what you need somewhere. Online shopping is great, except when this happens.

I had my delivery yesterday from Morrisons and only had a couple of no longer available items, one of them being coleslaw of all things.

SilverySurfer · 21/12/2018 18:13

I may well try Morrisons next time, thanks for the tip. I tried Ocado once, they didn't deliver and customer service was abysmal so will give them a miss. It's pretty important for me to get what I order as I'm disabled and although I have a mobility scooter, it takes a lot of effort to get to my nearest supermarket.

Mines showing in stock in my order but out of stock if I wanted to add a new one. I presumed it means mine is in stock but they've not got enough stock for new orders?

It does. Or it always has in the past.

SilverySurfer · 21/12/2018 18:23

No, the chicken in my list of ordered items said underneath - no longer available.

This is Tesco. They are normally pretty good but this has really annoyed me - maybe time to look for another supermarket.

I'm also fed up with spending ages checking ingredients for palm oil which I hate. More and more products contain it and my orders are getting smaller as a result. Tesco cornish pasties, most of their cakes, jam doughnuts, even bread+++ now contain it. I know Iceland have gone palm oil free but I prefer fresh food and only eat free range meat so can't see me getting all I want from there.

Tesco are sods for this. They have the most bizarre things disappear too. This week mine says no haribo.

Jaffacakebeast · 21/12/2018 18:34

Mines coming tomorrow and I’m dreading this, literally on tender hooks waiting. I’ve never done online shopping for big Xmas shop b4

GingerGetThePopcorn · 21/12/2018 18:34

I collected my Tesco order today and my turkey gravy had been substituted for chicken. Because clearly high demand for turkey gravy is unprecedented at this time of year Hmm

trilbydoll · 21/12/2018 18:35

I've got a Waitrose entertaining order to pick up Christmas eve and haven't been able to add to it since last weekend. My original order is fine but there's no extras left!

masterstef · 21/12/2018 18:37

I would double check it doesn't mean you can't add an extra one? I had something similar with ocado once - looked like I wasn't getting what I ordered, but I did ' I just couldn't add a second one to my basket.

SmilingButClueless · 21/12/2018 18:42

Waitrose did this to me with something else. I think it might be when things are available at the time of ordering but they won’t have stock at the time of delivery - possibly because they don’t have room for the ‘normal’ stock with all the huge, bulky, overpriced Christmas-specific stuff.

rose789 · 21/12/2018 18:44

Same here with the turkey I had in my basket with Asda Angry
It said no longer available and removed from basket, so it’s not a case of not being able to add another one to the one that’s already in the basket.
Looks like a mad dash to the shops on Christmas Eve

ForgotwhatIcameinherefor · 21/12/2018 18:45

I got the opposite - I went in and reserved a couple of pre-Christmas slots when they were released... popped in a few bottles of plonk plus a few of their “posh” Christmas desserts to peruse later.
Went in on Monday to do my actual order and it wouldn’t let me remove any of their desserts! They had been ordered and quantity couldn’t be changed. Plus/minus/delete all greyed out. I spent nearly £30 on desserts for 3 of us but worse... Use by dates are 23rd, 24th, 25th December. Bah Humbug.

SilverySurfer · 21/12/2018 18:49

Forgot OMG what a nightmare, which supermarket is that? They must realise people book stuff to hold the slot and change the order nearer the time.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 21/12/2018 18:49

Asda did this to me. No bloody turkey! The only thing I really, really needed to actually get from that delivery! They couldn't have given less of a shit.

gamerwidow · 21/12/2018 18:50

This has happened to me before with the Tesco Christmas shop which is why it the one arriving tomorriw contains nothing essential for Christmas Day. Anything really important has been bought in person or order for store pick up from the entertaining range.

Thentherewascake · 21/12/2018 18:52

nd it wouldn’t let me remove any of their desserts! Shock

that's ridiculous! Unless it's a made to order special item, it's not acceptable. I have booked my slots a few weeks ago, and made my order the night before. One of us will pop in at the weekend to get a few party bits

Dextrodependant · 21/12/2018 18:53

I have had this with Tesco before, added a replacement item and ended up with both.

LegoCardSwapper · 21/12/2018 18:54

I've amended my ASDA order 13 times now (honestly not an exaggeration!) and a couple of times they've said something in my basket is no longer available. I'm actually intrigued to see what does/doesn't turn up tomorrow!
