"Hate" in front of children

FSPea · 21/12/2018 15:20

My husband just listed the Christmas songs he "hates" in front of our 2.5 and 5 year old kids. I told him "hate" is a very strong word and he shouldn't use it in front of the children. He said I'm being ridiculous and it's fine to use it in the context of Christmas songs.

Who is right?

Your husband! Why can't children know what 'hate' means? Ridiculous!

peakSafeSpace · 21/12/2018 15:22

You husband's right.

Despite what some people want. We can't enforce language rules most of the time and it's better to hear and understand them than ban language.

Pachyderm1 · 21/12/2018 15:23

You’re being a bit absurd

BucketLid · 21/12/2018 15:23

Lol! You're ridiculous.

Theoryofmould · 21/12/2018 15:24

Your children are going to hear the word hate in their lifetimes. Hate is a strong word but it's perfectly acceptable to use it with Christmas other varieties also available songs.

PickledChutney · 21/12/2018 15:25

YABU - you need to have a little word with yourself and stop being such a snowflake.

PinkCalluna · 21/12/2018 15:26

It’s a strong word when referring to people.

Not so much with Christmas songs.

You are overthinking.

Soubriquet · 21/12/2018 15:32

You are being precious!

blueskiesandforests · 21/12/2018 15:33

Grin In a MN first I think you are about to hear unanimously that your DH is right and you are being very unreasonable Xmas Grin

boringlyboring · 21/12/2018 15:36

😂😂😂😂😂 brilliant

formerbabe · 21/12/2018 15:37

Chill out a bit op.

Meralia · 21/12/2018 15:37

Of course your husband isn’t right!

What exactly do you think will happen if your children hear your husband saying he hates Xmas songs?

arethereanyleftatall · 21/12/2018 15:45

Your husband is right, yabu.
It's a word, which means something, and isn't a swear word. What about all the other negative words which describe things?

arethereanyleftatall · 21/12/2018 15:47

@Meralia - typo?

femidom12 · 21/12/2018 15:47

I hate your post

cloudtree · 21/12/2018 15:48

You are being quite absurd.

Meralia · 21/12/2018 15:48

Ahh, I meant to write your husband is right obviously! I always try to be meticulous with spelling on mumsnet, that one slipped through the net!

DigitalGhost · 21/12/2018 15:53

I hate every song my Dad hates. Maybe he's trying to brainwash them 😂

explodingkitten · 21/12/2018 15:54

Do you seriously think
What does it matter if
It won't change them in any
When do you propose to start using normal terms like
