To not pay my TV license?

Just wondering if anyone else here is part of the TV licence resistance. I’ve never paid for one and I don’t watch live tv, but don’t want them having my details

Thousands of people get fined each week. I've been to the court and watched the cases being heard. It's not pretend.

We pay for one even though we don't watch any live TV or I player - because a couple of years ago we got a fine where the guy came to our house and we refused entry and said it wasn't required we moved house since and had thought nothing of it. Turns out he had wrote down a load of rubbish about our tv make etc from the doorstep (wasn't the right brand or even correct surname - partners name with my surname etc) and we were taken to court without knowing! The next thing we knew we had bailiffs at the door of New house and apparently it was enforceable even with the wrong name!! We ended up having to pay £700!!

WhatsUpHun · 20/12/2018 21:16

the current way of the UK is that we pay for the things we want to use, you want to use electricity, then you have to pay for it, i cant say well, i a, paying for my gas, i dont think i will bother paying for the electrics? i should get them for free

Sky is not the same as BBC and yeah, its archaic that we have to pay it if we want to watch live tv, but that is the rule here.

dont agree with it, then dont watch it

ForalltheSaints · 20/12/2018 21:17

I'd like to withhold part of my licence fee as I object to a penny going towards the disgraceful foul mouthed so-called comedy by Brendan O'Carroll and his tax avoiding family (Mrs Brown's Boys), but the law does not allow me to.

I would like at least part of the tv licence fee to be replace by a one-off fee for devices that can receive catch-up tv.

Say what Hmm

Coldshoulders · 20/12/2018 21:17

The police don't come and arrest you and charge you over tv licence. It's the BBC rules, not police. All the BBC can do is enforce a warrant to gain entry to your home as part of their investigation and if they cannot gain entry they can ask for police assistance. The police aren't actively part of these investigations and you don't even need to answer any questions to tv licence even if they come round as you are not bound to do so as it's not a police investigation.

YouSmellOfBeefAndCheese · 20/12/2018 21:19

I haven’t ever had one. They have been chasing me for payment I am nearly 40 and I moved out when I was 18 and they still haven’t found me.

Neverender · 20/12/2018 21:20

But they can get a court fine. If you don't pay a court fine, persistently, you can go to prison. Fact.

@Coldshoulders it doesnt matter if the service price is fair or extortionate. Its still the law to pay for a tv license if you use the service so its stealing if you dont. I honestly dont understand how this is even a discussion...paying for a tv license isnt an opinion Hmm

Coldshoulders · 20/12/2018 21:27

Haha tv licence tho seriously.

To not pay my TV license?
WhatsUpHun · 20/12/2018 21:29

So what do you call using a service that is meant to be paid for, and not paying for it?

Op originally said they didnt watch, so that was fine, then came on and said they did watch it

SongforSal · 20/12/2018 21:29

I am really shocked over a lot of these responses.

No one in my house ever watches live tv. We have Netflix, Amazon ect.

I'm embarrassed to say, I have diligently paid my licence for my entire adult life and never questioned it. I am defiantly canceling in the new year.

Coldshoulders · 20/12/2018 21:29

It's not the law when it comes to the police so it's not really a law is it?

Vitalogy · 20/12/2018 21:29

Are you a freeman of the land? Always makes me laugh the anger that this idea seems to create.

Neverender · 20/12/2018 21:31

Haha! Freeman of the land 🤣🤣🤣

Also, I do watch tv like once a month but I’m not going to pay £140 or however much it is to do that. I haven’t signed anything to say I will pay in exchange for live tv services. Also I don’t support the bbc after the pedo ring

PengAly · 20/12/2018 22:12

Op you really need to clarify what you actually watch. You are going back and forth a bit
