Secret Santa presents

HopefulCivilServant · 20/12/2018 13:48

Did Secret Santa at work today. I got a single flight ticket to a European city that leaves on Sunday afternoon and can’t book annual leave for the next day as we all have to be in. Thoughts?

Could you sell it in Gumtree?

MummytoCSJH · 20/12/2018 13:50

That's ridiculous...

Happinessisabook · 20/12/2018 13:52

And the secret Santa didn't book you any leave presumably?

Kolo · 20/12/2018 13:52

Haha so no return ticket? Someone must dislike you 😂

I’d just go.

Shazafied · 20/12/2018 13:55

Someone has given you their unwanted ticket ? Really shitty.

DoneLikeAKipper · 20/12/2018 14:21

Well thats an oddly expensive weird present. Can you ask around to who did it?

ajandjjmum · 20/12/2018 14:30

Wow - I thought the person who gave DD shampoo and conditioner was a little unimaginative - yours is really odd! Xmas Shock

knittedmouse · 20/12/2018 14:31

They're hoping you'll leave and not return?

jessstan2 · 20/12/2018 14:33

Yes indeed. I think I'd prefer the shampoo and conditioner.

Put the ticket up for sale immediately or else see if the airline will refund you - make some excuse, broken ankle or whatever.

PazRaz10 · 20/12/2018 14:35

Is this real!!??! What an incredibly odd Secret Santa present, and strangely expensive?!

KeepServingTheFestiveSnogs · 20/12/2018 14:40

If it's from Gatwick, you're probably fucked anyway!

We have a £5 limit at our place. An aeroplane ticket seems like a HUGE present, even if it's totally impractical!

MysweetAudrina · 20/12/2018 14:44

It would be worse if the ticked was dated 28 March.

ajandjjmum · 20/12/2018 14:48

Is the ticket actually in your name OP?

Maybe the giver bought it with miles (that are about to expire) or something?

DayManChampionOfTheSun · 20/12/2018 14:48

Bloody hell OP, what is the budget at your place?

Raera · 20/12/2018 14:50

Is it from Gatwick?

HopefulCivilServant · 20/12/2018 15:10

Happiness the person who bought me it booked annual leave the day after for their birthday, and we can’t book annual leave at the same time as someone else, so i won’t be able to book leave for it on the Monday (the day after), unfortunately.

OP posts:
HopefulCivilServant · 20/12/2018 15:11

Dayman 😂 the budget’s £5. The giver bought it for £4.50. They have form for this - they bought something similar last year for another colleague (when they worked in a different team).

OP posts:
Happinessisabook · 20/12/2018 15:12

Well that's even worse when they know for a fact you can't use it and they're the reason why.

I guess it wouldn't have been so bad if they'd booked the time off for you because you could argue they were trying to be nice, but that's just really passive aggressive

IHopeThisIsAGoodIdea · 20/12/2018 15:22

I'm sorry but I think your colleague secretly hates you. Xmas Confused

eightoclock · 20/12/2018 15:24

I would go and tell them you think it's a crap present and they are an unpleasant person.

MummytoCSJH · 20/12/2018 15:33

In that case - give it back to them as a birthday present inside a card :)

Toooldtocareanymore · 20/12/2018 15:33

before I'd worry about the leave element I'd be looking into how cheap it was to get back...for the laugh can you get a flight back that night?? I assume not but obviously as they have the Monday booked and presumably haven't got their own flight (?) to get I'd be trying to wind them up as much as possible by insisting you are going and taking the Monday as leave, as they had it booked with their gift it was obvious you needed it ,so its a straight swap to you, i'd have everyone at work in on it and repeating this ... can you imply you've told hr as much, who have agreed....
you cant even donate it to a charity as the cost to change name on ticket is just too high.

LaurieFairyCake · 20/12/2018 15:49

That present LITERALLY says fuck off to the far side of fuck HmmShock

HopefulCivilServant · 20/12/2018 16:01

I think my colleague actually means well, weirdly. They’ve done this in the past when they worked in a previous team, and they were proudly telling us how happy they were that they found such an amazing present that was under a fiver.

OP posts:
AnchorDownDeepBreath · 20/12/2018 16:18

God that would happen where I work; and it'd be from someone who was really smug about what an excellent gift they'd bought and how it's up to the other person to make it work, but it was an amazing opportunity blah blah.
