To wonder about a few things with the LGW drone attack

Before I get flamed (and not that anyone will resist flaming if they want to anyway). I know-

-It's not that easy
-Safety First
-People are doing their best

But I can't help wondering and idly speculating about why -

We apparently don't have any counter measures for this.
It can go on so long
We aren't seeing any News footage of the drone(s)

I am 100% NOT a conspiracy theorist but I am very curious about exactly what is going on.

Taking attention away from something else I presume.

brizzledrizzle · 20/12/2018 20:52

Of course the impact of families not being able to spend Christmas together has been serious, but that's a different matter.

Whoever is behind this doesn't give a damn about any of that, it's acceptable collateral damage. Either that or they are too thick to have realised what the consequences would be. i hope that the military find them, they won't be putting up with any crap from them.

CherryPavlova · 20/12/2018 20:53

Horrible for those that are stranded. We were lucky. Our daughter managed to book onto a Standsted bound flight. Still a complete pain and more expensive but at least she’s home for Christmas now. Some of her young friends who’ve been studying abroad may not be so fortunate.

badlydrawnperson · 20/12/2018 20:54

I hope the military get to them first before some of the passengers......

OP posts:
brizzledrizzle · 20/12/2018 20:55

Agreed, it would be a shame for the passengers to do something that they'd get in trouble for.

freeloader · 20/12/2018 20:58

False flag I agree.

The military will have to be brought in and may have to stay there (and perhaps at other airports and stations etc) until -Brexit is sorted out- they 'find out who's flying the drones'

freeloader · 20/12/2018 20:59

strikethrough fail

canigetaliein · 20/12/2018 21:03

I don’t understand why it’s taking so long to sort, surely this means all our airports are at the mercy of a drone be it at the hands of a prankster or a terrorist? It’s a big invitation!

canigetaliein · 20/12/2018 21:07

how come the drone can stay up
so long?

Ta1kinpeace · 20/12/2018 21:14

Its not staying up
it goes up and down every few minutes

Wordthe · 20/12/2018 21:21

The whole thing just seems preposterous why can't they see where the drone goes when it goes down?

TheLittlestLightOnTheTree · 20/12/2018 21:22

On the flight radar app you can see the drones ( is it them) ?

badlydrawnperson · 20/12/2018 21:24

As I said at the start - I am not a conspiracy theorist, but it is hard to see what's taking all the time.

We are obviously not getting the full story and I accept there are probably valid reasons for that.

This thread explains a lot about the drones.

No it isn't.

canigetaliein · 20/12/2018 21:29

Ta1kinpeace but why can’t they see where it lands. #dronenovice

TheLittlestLightOnTheTree · 20/12/2018 21:31

What are they then? They are little rectangles moving around haphazardly.... some with names. There's 9 of them

Wordthe · 20/12/2018 21:33

it's just 'them' trying to put the wind up us all about brexit.....give us all a taste of the chaos and anarchy which will ensue when we CRASH OUT

Wordthe · 20/12/2018 21:34

The rectangles appear to be airport ground vehicles
according to my app anyway.....

ImmortalityMyDarlings · 20/12/2018 21:34

There’s a posh boys boarding school in Crawley - maybe it’s pesky kids

Ta1kinpeace · 20/12/2018 21:35

caniget
Its a thing about the size of a dustbin lid landing anywhere in an area the size of Reading
that is moving at up to 40 miles an hour up down and around

the person controlling it could be up to a mile away from it and is probably driving around

its hard enough to find your own drone when it goes walkabout
let alone somebody elses
even more so if they do not want it found

badlydrawnperson · 20/12/2018 21:38

Er.....if they are so hard to spot how do we know there are actually any there?

OP posts:
WiltedDaffs · 20/12/2018 21:40

Are the navy getting involved?

Saw on Twitter, people wondering if HMS Duncan would be of use...apparently some documentary about it the other day was saying it can track a tennis ball sized object moving 3 times the speed of sound.

Marine Traffic shows it left Plymouth earlier today and is just south of Hayling Island.

Ta1kinpeace · 20/12/2018 21:42

They have been seen by the airport authorities and by the police
but catching a glimpse of something is VERY different from tracking where it comes down
and even more so to tracking down the controller

eg
they see it buzz across the runway at 100 feet, 30 mph
or about four seconds

by the time they lock binoculars on it, it has gone two miles outside the fence and dropped into the trees between any one of ten fields

ImmortalityMyDarlings · 20/12/2018 21:42
Footage here apparently.

To be honest the lack of footage is more suspect.
