Just that really friend horrified I’m not going to wrap my stocking fillers. She even wraps up the chocolate coins .

Mine will be wrapped when my toddler is older, but for now they are unwrapped so that he's not bored of unwrapping before he even gets downstairs to the presents under the tree!

Justlikedevon · 20/12/2018 05:48

If you don't wrap, a stocking is essentially a festive carrier bag. Dc doesn't get loads at Christmas but I would like the bits I do get to be worthy of a little more than just being chucked in and shaken out.

SD1978 · 20/12/2018 05:49

I've never wrapped and never had it wrapped- I didn't realise that was a 'thing' for some people. Off for more wrapping paper I go 😂

whereiwanttobe · 20/12/2018 05:58

I wrap all except the chocolate coins and Brussels sprouts (M&S chocolate ones, not real!). But the ones for the small people have to be in different paper to their main presents, because otherwise eagle eyes spot that Father Christmas has used the same paper as Nana....

We don’t wrap stockings - who can be arsed wrapping tiny things? Maybe it’s easiwe for me because we have knit stocking that have different yarn threads being carried over inside so you can’t just tip stuff out - you have no choice but sticking your arm in to feel around for your toy car, tangerine and chocolate coins. It’s just something to pass a bit of time while DH and I adjust to being awake.

I could see why people who only give the stocking from Santa wrap though.

HotInWinter · 20/12/2018 06:07

None wrapper here.
But knitted socks, so no way you could tip it out either. Only stockings from Santa. Santa doesn't wrap!
On a previous thread, I think the wrappers were the majority.

MerryMarigold · 20/12/2018 06:11

I wrap around 3 presents. Our stockings are pillowcases and kids get lots of essentials eg. Pants/ socks/ dressing gown which I don't wrap.

Torsz · 20/12/2018 06:13

Mine was always wrapped and I loved opening every individual thing. We now get stockings at both my parents and my in laws (yes we get stockings in our 30s!) and my in laws don't wrap - which I find really strange! I find I'm trying to drag out the time it takes to get out/look at things as otherwise it would take about 30 seconds in total!
Not to take away from the appreciation though - it's really sweet that they include us ☺️

VashtaNerada · 20/12/2018 06:13

Oh good god life is too short to wrap stocking fillers. I can barely find time to wrap their big presents!

Cherrysherbet · 20/12/2018 06:13

Everything is wrapped in the stockings, always has been. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Seeing the kids unwrap their stockings is the best part of the day! I’ve wrapped everything apart from the coins (which will be loose at the bottom) and the satsuma. Dd who is 7 will have a little toy puppy sticking out of the top, unwrapped. Always have a couple of crackers at the top too.

Can’t wait! I annoy myself, as I can’t sleep well on Christmas Eve! I keep waking up to check the time, then feel bloody knackered the next day Grin

PipGoesPop · 20/12/2018 06:18

There's no right or wrong way! Each to their own (I don't wrap).

JingsMahBucket · 20/12/2018 06:19

@IPromiseIWontBeNaughty that’s really cute! :)

LittleLlamaontheduskyroad · 20/12/2018 06:21

My parents I mean Father Christmas never used to wrap ours. I I mean Father Christmas foolishly decided wrapping the stocking fillers would be a good idea, to make it more exciting for my own DC. I wish I'd he'd not started this now as it would be so much easier not to!

BusySittingDown · 20/12/2018 06:33

We wrap here. Father Christmas never wrapped mine as a child but I always used to take things out one by one - it never occurred to me to tip it all out. My DC probably would though!

For those that find wrapping tiny things a pita, there was a tip by an MNer last year to buy a pack of those paper sweet bags on amazon and use Christmassy stickers to seal them. I don't do it as I use the different wrapping paper for each child and they know that the wrapping paper that's in their stocking matches their pile when they go downstairs. I think it's a good idea though.

ItWasntMeItWasIm · 20/12/2018 06:42

No wrapping as the stocking is usually half a pair of tights which us delightfully lumpy and bumpy and presents are extracted one by one.

allthatmalarkey · 20/12/2018 06:43

Noooo. Never wrap. Never have. Didn't get wrapped presents in stockings when I was a kid. As you say, that's the point of the stocking.

Mummadeeze · 20/12/2018 06:45

Never heard of wrapped presents in stockings, mine were always unwrapped! Now in a dilemma as to whether to wrap my daughter’s!!! It would make it more exciting but she is used to it not wrapped so might be weird to change now.

ellenpartridge · 20/12/2018 06:49

I don't wrap my daughter's stocking presents and mine were never wrapped either. They never got ripped out in 2 minutes and it didn't spoil the magic...

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 20/12/2018 06:53

Wrap obviously, although I have heard of people cheating and using kitchen foil and just scrunching it round.

Now where can I get sugar mice?

Preetypup · 20/12/2018 06:53

Fucking hell adults having stockings, oh my days that's hilarious Grin

RockySpeed · 20/12/2018 06:57

Father Christmas doesn't wrap in this house - my kids have NEVER just tipped out their stockings, they always put their arms in and take out one thing at a time. He brings a stocking for each child and one present, which isn't wrapped either.

My stocking presents were never wrapped as a child, I never tipped either.

It has never felt any less magical

siobhan0710 · 20/12/2018 06:57

Ours was never wrapped growing up as kids, but it was always so exciting!
I never wrap my kids stocking fillers either - hadn't realised until recently people did this.
I don't think it takes away any magic or make it less exciting, my kids insist it's the best part of Christmas!

Rebah · 20/12/2018 06:57

Ours were never wrapped and I don’t wrap my children’s stocking presents. If there’s something slightly bigger that might be wrapped and left next to the stocking but otherwise no.

It would be impossible to tip out our stockings as they are so stuffed full. Still plenty of scrunch from what’s inside and lots of excitement from reaching in and pulling out a present.

BusySittingDown · 20/12/2018 06:57

Kitchen foil 😂

That reminds me of Smithy from Gavin and Stacey!

PandaG · 20/12/2018 07:00

Wrapped here too, to prolong the experience. But as the DC are 19 and 16, and certainly no longer need the FC myth bolstering with separate paper (we did have paper with FC on for stockings only when they were small), and we are trying to be a bit more environmentally sound, this year the stocking fillers are wrapped in the recycled paper our individual rolls of toilet roll come packaged in. Brightly coloured, free, and conveniently sized to scrunch round small presents!
