To throw SIL's Christmas card straight in the bin?

SIL puts glitter inside every card she sends. She's particularly fond of booby-trapping greetings cards with a mixture of fine and superfine glitter that seems to linger for ages. (I was still finding glitter all over PFB months after she sent a new baby card.) I'd be marginally less irritated -not really- if she used eco-glitter, but it's just so wasteful, unnecessary and annoying. I thought she might stop after she had DC herself, but if anything it seems to be worse. I've tried opening cards over the bin, but the glitter still explodes everywhere. WIBU to just throw her card straight in the bin without opening?

Biancadelriosback · 17/12/2018 14:16

I adore glitter...but only when I choose to use it eg on my nails at Christmas. But in cards is fricken evil!

Drogosnextwife · 17/12/2018 14:17

Bin them everytime.

YouSmellOfBeefAndCheese · 17/12/2018 14:19

Is this your SIL?

Kpo58 · 17/12/2018 14:21

Return the glitter to her in a Christmas card. Hopefully then she will find out how annoying it is and stop glitter bombing cards.

KingsScorn · 17/12/2018 14:23

Definitely bin it.

She may genuinely believe it is cute/fun but I'm struggling to see how doing this is anything other than a bit mean/PA/immature (especially in the new baby card - wow!).

If you will see her (in her house) before Christmas then I would seriously considering opening it at her house...which makes me almost of bad...maybe? Might put a stop to it!

Doghorsechicken · 17/12/2018 14:29

You are being pretty miserable, it’s just a bit of fun!

NancyDonahue · 17/12/2018 14:29

Open outside just in case she's put money in it Xmas Wink

Jingledalltheway · 17/12/2018 14:30

As you know she does it just open it over the bin.

minisoksmakehardwork · 17/12/2018 14:31

Save it up and put a fuck tonne in her card? At least then she has a good chunk of the problem to deal with. Especially if you don't normally use glitter - do you have children you can blame it on? "Oh but cindy knows how much auntie poppy loooooooves glitter!!" Grin

WhatchaMaCalllit · 17/12/2018 14:31

Absolutely not.

I hate glitter. I call it Satan's Sand. It gets everywhere!

We went on a family holiday about 6 years ago now and I bought DD a few 'sparkly' tops that had glitter on them.
I'm still finding glitter now in the suitcase I used back then from these tops. I hate glitter.

Did I mention that I have a hatred of glitter??? Yes?? Well I do!

Ethel36 · 17/12/2018 14:31

Seems silly of her to do this. Why would you want mess all over your floor?! Little immature on her part. Yes I would put them in the bin. As ling as you were sure theres no money in it. If she ever asks where her card is, tell her the truth. It makes so much mess so you put them straight into recycling.

Jingledalltheway · 17/12/2018 14:31

Or open it over an open card to her that you've wrote and send the glitter back that way ....

BerylStreep · 17/12/2018 14:32

Yes, I'd put it straight in the bin unopened and tell her that this is what you are planning to do because the glitter is a pain in the ass.

Just be careful that she doesn't get other people to write the envelope in the future to put you off the scent.

Has she sent it / given it to you yet?

Ethel36 · 17/12/2018 14:33

@KingsScorn
Love what KingsScorn suggested. Open it when you're at her house next! I'm actually laughing as I type this out!

JC4PMPLZ · 17/12/2018 14:34

Send it to me. I love glitter. Am going eco of course.

Ngaio2 · 17/12/2018 14:34

Open it outside and shake. Read card and check for any contents and then put in your bin if there’s any risk of glitter coming inside with card.
Fill her DCs next birthday cards with glitter.

cuppycakey · 17/12/2018 14:35

a friend of mine returned a wedding invitation that was full of glitter with the same shit repacked into her RSVP, and the bride to be was furious Grin

BarbaraofSevillle · 17/12/2018 14:36

Open it at her house, but it's probably full of glitter already anyway.

blackbunny · 17/12/2018 14:36

How old is she, 5?
Tell her the glitters given you a nasty skin reaction please don’t use it anymore.

HestiaParthenos · 17/12/2018 14:37

Fill her DCs next birthday cards with glitter.

That's unlikely to change anything. She apparently adores glitter and has decided it is worth the hassle because it is so pretty and sparkly.

Have you tried telling her you don't like glitter? Reasonable people understand that not everyone thinks the sparklyness is worth having to clean up the explosion.
