Neighbour stole my Deliveroo order

Well, I can only imagine that’s what’s happened, since I’ve received an email from Deliveroo stating that it’s been delivered but nothing has arrived. I’ve since messaged Deliveroo, who have refunded the full amount to my account - but I’m more pissed off wondering a) where my order has gone and b) if they delivered it to the wrong address and a dishonest neighbour claimed it as their own. How hard is it to get the right door number FFS?

Interesting to hear that your first assumption is that a neighbour stole it.

We're frequent users of Deliveroo and Just Eat. Sometimes delivery people note things delivered before they knock on our door. In one case our takeaway was taken by a different driver to.ours and needed to be cooked again. Sometimes things are late. I contact the company for things to be resent or refunded depending on the situation.

For the poster questioning the use of delivery drivers, not all places are within easy walking distance, not everyone has a car. My groceries and other shopping is delivered to my door too. Welcome to the 21st century.

Watch deliveroo. They were on watchdog ages ago for pulling this stuff. Just saying.

They might have got the number right but the road wrong - we redelivered a neighbours toy tiara after mistakenly opening it when it appeared at ours one Christmas.

We also rejected a neighbours IKEA kitchen - I would have accepted it before I realised if it had only been a couple of boxes as I was expecting a delivery!

Both had the wrong road.

@lilmishap Wow - I'm feeling lucky I got a refund after reading some of those reviews!

Glad to hear that people think it probably wasn't nicked. I don't know why I came to that assumption - I suppose it was because the app updated me to say the food had been "delivered", so they must've dropped it off somewhere. Do Deliveroo orders have the customer's address attached to the bag? I can't remember.

I've had a few times where they give up finding my address. I think probably food gets cold and they think whats the point and move on to the next job. Might have just seen an order come in that would earn the cash faster and thought sod yours

Deliveroo rider stole my order once. Had friends over and came back late from a show, ordered £70 of food and the rider rode by the house presumably to appease the tracking thing, then disappeared. In their defence deliveroo reordered with the restaurant which by this time we were ravenous so insisted on collecting it (defeated the object) and then deliveroo refunded the £70.

ByeGerms you'd think that would be quite a risky thing to do, unless they genuinely didn't care about losing their job?

I let Deliveroo know that I will be ordering with UberEats instead next time - so there! I'm sure they're quaking in their boots, lol.

If it's anything like Hermes there probably wouldn't have been a consequence for them

I took in someone’s delivery once. Was the rare occasion I was actually expecting a delivery for us and in the middle of doing kids bedtime the doorbell went so I just grabbed it. About ten minutes later it went again and it was my actual delivery!
Luckily we have an estate Facebook page so I put it on there and it was reunited with a grateful, hungry owner.

I mean it’s tipping down with rain and freezing cold where we are so for some poor farmer it's quite stressful to grow crops and raise animals, with all the early mornings, etc.

🤔 how hard is it to grow and make your own food?

the second line of my deliveroo address is a description of the house and the name of the road we are on the corner of. try it. has changed our lives!

UberEats are also the same. Missing orders etc and McDonalds and the lack of dips even with the food that comes with dips.

But kfc with justeat takes the fucking piss. Have tried different stores in the hope it was an issue with that one. Nope, they just get worse.

how hard is it to go pick up your own food?
I could tell you about my mh and how this impacts my life. But I won't bore you. So I will just tell you the assumed reason that I am a lazy cunt.

Deliveroo are in breach of their contract with you and have to give you your money back - Consumer Rights Act 2015.

As PPs have said, I wouldn't assume the neighbours have stolen it - might well be a mistake by Deliveroo. Our neighbours recently "stole" our new curtains because they were expecting a John Lewis delivery on the same day and the delivery guy went to the wrong door.

This happened to us at our old address. Driver had posted a card to tell us the number of the house hed delivered it but when i asked that neighbour they said theyd been out at the time of delivery on the card and hadnt signed for anything. We got in touch with the del8very company and they gave us the name of who signed for it and the neighbour still denied having our delivery. Funny thing was it was only a pack of 2 baby bottles for £6 that they wouldnt have had any use for. Strange dishonest people around

I live at a house that gets another house’s takeaways delivered a lot. Surely they’d know by now. Often late at night when I’m on my own and there’s a bang at the door. I donalways answer and send them in the right direction but it’s frustrating. I’ve also had the police trying to tell me my son was in custody and didn’t believe my neighbour when they tried to knock when I wasn’t in who told them I didn’t have a son. Still didn’t believe me til I explained they had the wrong street. Had the bailiffs too and had to provide ID to stop them taking possession of my stuff. Countless takeaways are attempted to be delivered but I send them packing. I’m really shocked as to how many grown intelligent adults can’t seem to read a street sign.

You wouldn't get this shite with Ubereats, we had a driver bring us food to the hospital and his bike had broken down so he hopped on the bus with it! 😀

I am very jealous of all of you with so many delivery options, I live in a town center and have exactly one delivery option, Dominos. Nothing else delivers to me! And even then they get lost every time, it's like the concept of a flat above a shop but a separate entrance is just too hard to grasp. Even Amazon and supermarkets can't manage it, but for food there is nothing at all in my area.

Sometimes its actually the driver that has taken the food cause they can't find the address. happened to my sister, where she ordered food, the driver called her to check her address, she told him the address, then said he can't deliver. he was meant to return the food to the restaurant which he never, sister called the restaurant to check, and they told her the driver never came back, and said it happens a lot!! it was a nice juicy steak as well.. no wonder he went off with it

This was almost me doing the dinner stealing the other night!

Was expecting an amazon delivery when the door went. Opened it up and had the bag in my hand before I realised it wasn’t quite what I was expecting.

But I’m not a complete arsehole so I said it wasn’t for me and he delivered next door.

Sorry you didn’t get your takeaway OP. I’d genuinely be so upset.

Different but similar. I ordered off groupon a jacket for son. Neighbour many doors down found it in her front garden. Just chucked in there. Weird. Son then immediately lost jacket, so pointless purchase. But nice of neighbour to find me and deliver it. Unlike delivery driver...

I’ve had an eejit of a pizza delivery guy ring me from outside no 28 because that was the pinpoint on his sat nav for our postcode, when I’m at no 4. I actually had to tell him to drive back down the road...

Lots of DD's friends ride for Deliveroo, they say pay is far better than retail or bar work for students
But they're not insured, so if they have an accident it could be very very costly.
