Neighbour stole my Deliveroo order

Dongdingdong · 15/12/2018 23:50

Well, I can only imagine that’s what’s happened, since I’ve received an email from Deliveroo stating that it’s been delivered but nothing has arrived. I’ve since messaged Deliveroo, who have refunded the full amount to my account - but I’m more pissed off wondering a) where my order has gone and b) if they delivered it to the wrong address and a dishonest neighbour claimed it as their own. How hard is it to get the right door number FFS?

Seven years ago I got caught for speeding but the letter went to two other streets with the same name before making it to me...by then the summons was too late and I got done for failing to answer the summons. Dvla then apparently sent a letter asking for my paper licence, I never even received this letter. Found out last week I had been driving around for seven years while my licence was revoked. Two days ago there was a knock at the door but by the time I got there all I could see was a large builders merchant lorry which I thought was for my neighbour who is having some work done. Later when I went outside I discovered two enormous bags of sand on my drive...I had to climb over them to get in the car....and yes they were for one of the other roads...

We share a driveway and it doesn't matter how many times I tell people not to go to the first house, they do. Human nature I guess, but don't leave it too late to follow up with the company concerned. Their problem, not yours. Pleased to hear you received a refund.

I have had two deliveroo orders to my door in the past two weeks, which I didn't order. I did hand them back though

Happens with us a lot. Due to us been The Road and the nearby streets being called Roadsyde and Roadcrest, (NC the streets just in case) the equivelant house number often get sent our food despite always making a note on just eat that we are the bungalows. Last time the thieves in one particular house took our takeaway after a new delivery driver gor duped. We were told it had been delivered and at first they woulsnt refund until we asked what house they had delivered too and they said a two up two down they realises it dwdo wasnt ours. Qe also pointed out we ha e cctv ans there was no sugn of takeaway at all. Turns out they also order from the same place so the owner chargwd their credit card foe the food they took. They were not too happy. We got a replacement meal and money off our next order.

I’m a live in nanny and twice in my last job I’ve taken in food delivery only to have my employers come home shortly afterwards to say they didn’t order anything! It was Indian food both times, no restaurant name or recipients names on the receipt so couldn’t do anything but eat it! It would have been a complete waste to through it out.

Now if I haven’t ordered anything, I ask the delivery driver the name and address of recipient before taking it in.

Maybe something similar happened with one of your neighbours?

My employers did text closest neighbours to see if it was theirs, no similarly named roads nearby to ask.

I mean it’s tipping down with rain and freezing cold where we are so for some poor teen on a bike, working for peanuts, getting a wrong door could be quite easy!

🤔 how hard is it to go pick up your own food?

Depends on your circumstances - I f it were tipping down with rain, i'd get a delivery and give the teen a fat tip, as I always do for delivery drivers.

I'd be careful of ordering through ubereats too. We've ordered three times with the them and every time they mess up
The first one half the food was missing, the second time the took out double the money and the third they took out the money and put a hold on the same amount and it was in the pending transaction bit on the account for a week after. Never using them again

I remember our doorbell ringing in the early hours of a Sunday morning. We are middle aged, fairly boring and rarely see such times of the day, so we definitely hadn't ordered pizza. Even my sleep adventures haven't quite gone that far yet 😂 Delivery driver took quite a lot of convincing. DP is a bit of a pizza monster so the driver was probably lucky he was half asleep.

OP, your neighbours are greedy deckers. They probably load up your dustbin as well.

Lots of DD's friends ride for Deliveroo, they say pay is far better than retail or bar work for students
But they're not insured, so if they have an accident it could be very very costly.

I’ve had an eejit of a pizza delivery guy ring me from outside no 28 because that was the pinpoint on his sat nav for our postcode, when I’m at no 4. I actually had to tell him to drive back down the road...

Different but similar. I ordered off groupon a jacket for son. Neighbour many doors down found it in her front garden. Just chucked in there. Weird. Son then immediately lost jacket, so pointless purchase. But nice of neighbour to find me and deliver it. Unlike delivery driver...

This was almost me doing the dinner stealing the other night!

Was expecting an amazon delivery when the door went. Opened it up and had the bag in my hand before I realised it wasn’t quite what I was expecting.

But I’m not a complete arsehole so I said it wasn’t for me and he delivered next door.

Sorry you didn’t get your takeaway OP. I’d genuinely be so upset.

Sometimes its actually the driver that has taken the food cause they can't find the address. happened to my sister, where she ordered food, the driver called her to check her address, she told him the address, then said he can't deliver. he was meant to return the food to the restaurant which he never, sister called the restaurant to check, and they told her the driver never came back, and said it happens a lot!! it was a nice juicy steak as well.. no wonder he went off with it

I am very jealous of all of you with so many delivery options, I live in a town center and have exactly one delivery option, Dominos. Nothing else delivers to me! And even then they get lost every time, it's like the concept of a flat above a shop but a separate entrance is just too hard to grasp. Even Amazon and supermarkets can't manage it, but for food there is nothing at all in my area.

You wouldn't get this shite with Ubereats, we had a driver bring us food to the hospital and his bike had broken down so he hopped on the bus with it! 😀

I live at a house that gets another house’s takeaways delivered a lot. Surely they’d know by now. Often late at night when I’m on my own and there’s a bang at the door. I donalways answer and send them in the right direction but it’s frustrating. I’ve also had the police trying to tell me my son was in custody and didn’t believe my neighbour when they tried to knock when I wasn’t in who told them I didn’t have a son. Still didn’t believe me til I explained they had the wrong street. Had the bailiffs too and had to provide ID to stop them taking possession of my stuff. Countless takeaways are attempted to be delivered but I send them packing. I’m really shocked as to how many grown intelligent adults can’t seem to read a street sign.

This happened to us at our old address. Driver had posted a card to tell us the number of the house hed delivered it but when i asked that neighbour they said theyd been out at the time of delivery on the card and hadnt signed for anything. We got in touch with the del8very company and they gave us the name of who signed for it and the neighbour still denied having our delivery. Funny thing was it was only a pack of 2 baby bottles for £6 that they wouldnt have had any use for. Strange dishonest people around

Deliveroo are in breach of their contract with you and have to give you your money back - Consumer Rights Act 2015.

As PPs have said, I wouldn't assume the neighbours have stolen it - might well be a mistake by Deliveroo. Our neighbours recently "stole" our new curtains because they were expecting a John Lewis delivery on the same day and the delivery guy went to the wrong door.

UberEats are also the same. Missing orders etc and McDonalds and the lack of dips even with the food that comes with dips.

But kfc with justeat takes the fucking piss. Have tried different stores in the hope it was an issue with that one. Nope, they just get worse.

how hard is it to go pick up your own food?
I could tell you about my mh and how this impacts my life. But I won't bore you. So I will just tell you the assumed reason that I am a lazy cunt.
