Neighbour stole my Deliveroo order

Dongdingdong · 15/12/2018 23:50

Well, I can only imagine that’s what’s happened, since I’ve received an email from Deliveroo stating that it’s been delivered but nothing has arrived. I’ve since messaged Deliveroo, who have refunded the full amount to my account - but I’m more pissed off wondering a) where my order has gone and b) if they delivered it to the wrong address and a dishonest neighbour claimed it as their own. How hard is it to get the right door number FFS?

OP posts:
lisasimpsonssaxophone · 16/12/2018 08:43

We’ve had them leave it outside our door before and it drives me mad. If you’ve made it all the way up to the 4th floor of our block, why wouldn’t you ring the doorbell? We only find it when we get impatient and look outside to see if there’s any sign of the driver.

We’ve had the situation where it claims to have been delivered but clearly hasn’t, too. Usually calling Deliveroo results in them saying the driver has been ‘having problems’ and sending another order out, which is all well and good but we wanted our food at 8pm, not 9:30! So your food may not have been nicked, OP, your driver may have just chucked it.

HumpHumpWhale · 16/12/2018 08:43

So, I had this once, I ordered food and then when it turned up, opened the bag after the driver had left and it wasn't mine. I rang deliveroo to let them know, and while I was on hold, my actual food turned up with a different driver. No idea what happened but the right name and address wasn't on the bag and anyway I was at home alone with two little kids and since the second driver couldn't tell who it was meant to be for, he couldn't do anything either. Deliveroo said I could just have it if I wanted it. So it might not have been stolen as such. I felt so bad for whoever was waiting for their kung pao chicken.

OftenHangry · 16/12/2018 09:03

Re Deliveroo.
Deliveroo changed the way they pay dlstuff from what I heard so lot's of drivers also joined UbeEats and JustEat. So they are now picking up food for different companises, having multiple deliveries in a box and mess up often.

TurquoiseDress · 16/12/2018 09:07

🤔 how hard is it to go pick up your own food?

Completely misses the point of this thread Grin

EssentialHummus · 16/12/2018 09:10

I’ve twice in the last year had delivery drivers ring our doorbell and try to hand over food meant for neighbours, even though house numbers are fairly clearly marked around here. And it was 5 times + in my old flat, which was part of a labyrinthine estate.

JingsMahBucket · 16/12/2018 09:17

@Longdistance at that point, would it be possible to report your neighbour for theft or have the police go round to have a chat with them? Them knowing they’re being watched may put a stop to it. They’re definitely bold for sure.

ourkidmolly · 16/12/2018 09:26

I'd say it's far more likely that there was no actual delivery at all as it was super busy so they couldn't fulfil it. Especially if they say their delivery person is not contactable. Deliveroo have over extended themselves and on a wet cold night they were too busy for your order so they have just fed you a BS excuse.

Buxtonstill · 16/12/2018 09:33

I live on hill, and there is a **crescent. Always getting stuff for my numerical equivalent. Luckily, one Amazon delivery had the ladies telephone number on, so we text each other with parcel news, but it’s so annoying when they knock at hers when she’s out, and take the parcel back, when I’m in... She ordered a huge Indian takeaway last night, and my mouth was watering as I redirected the driver! I sent her a message saying her dinner was coming!

LittleScottieDog · 16/12/2018 11:13

When we first moved here we ordered Indian takeaway. After the expected delivery time we waited another 15 minutes but still nothing so I rang. Apparently our delivery had been delivered next door as the restaurant often got orders from them. We were gobsmacked that our neighbours just took in the takeaway and presumably ate it. We got a replacement but ended up eating later than we wanted and had to wait. I'm so glad the neighbours moved, I just can't imagine accepting a takeaway without a murmur even though you know no-one at your address has ordered it.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 16/12/2018 11:18

Could be anywhere - and it's quite possibly not at a close neighbours. We once had a lap-top delivered to our house (17 Gas Street), because that was apparently the same address as 17 Acacia Street, which was the other side of town. They were insistent it was ours. I reckon if we'd taken it there'd have been no way it would ever have been located.

We were actually shouted at when we explained that lots of roads are called something Street, and have a number 17.

Send the suspects a skip or a drive full of wood chips for Christmas 🎄

EnglishRose13 · 16/12/2018 12:22

I would really like to know what you eat instead? I'd be gutted.

sockunicorn · 16/12/2018 12:48

I would be fucking livid and would go banging on all my neighbours doors to see if I could smell what I had ordered.

Grin Grin i love this

CottonSock · 16/12/2018 12:50

This happened to me with a weekly Tesco shop. Never did find out who took it in.

ladydickisathingapparently · 16/12/2018 13:43

Back in the early days of food shopping delivery, we had a delivery scheduled for 8-9pm. No sign of it, and when we rang the company they said the driver was running late. He eventually arrived at gone 11 in a foul temper and dumped the bags on the doorstep. I could immediately see that none of it was ours, tried to call him back and basically got told “I don’t give a shit love.”

The company told us to keep it and sent us a delivery the next day, but I always felt sorry for whoever got landed with our exciting delivery of nappies and dishwasher salt Hmm.

Polarbearflavour · 16/12/2018 15:39

I live in a place with a gate and security guards. The guard on duty will direct the driver to my block. They can then press my number in the intercom. Easy.

90% of the time I end up wandering outside looking for them. Sigh!

CatAndHisKit · 16/12/2018 18:05

Sparkles - sounds like he's well practiced as he was skilled in covering his tracks! I wonder if it's more of a frequent thing than we all think!

Neighbours might have also been expecting an order, so not deliberately stolen it. And then maybe they are sitting there fuming at how badly wrong "their" order is...

winniestone37 · 17/12/2018 17:37

@KnightlyMyMan please with your knee jerk judging, unless you actually know some deliveroo drivers or are one then keep your smug judgyness to yourself. You know nothing about the Op and I'm guessing the deliveroo employees actually want the work. You are ridiculous.

HolesinTheSoles · 17/12/2018 17:42

how hard is it to go pick up your own food?

Odd comment - you never get food delivered? Much better to have a few delivery drivers (who wouldn't otherwise be employed) delivering than every single person driving to pick it up.

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 17/12/2018 17:44

This has happened to me three times - it was the delivery guys rather than the neighbours though! Think they just couldn't be bothered or something although my house is literally just round the corner from the restaurant (yes I am v lazy Blush)

Sooperkat · 17/12/2018 18:02

This happened to us a couple of weeks ago. A knock on the door while I was putting the DD1 to bed, I looked down the stairs to see DH looking hugely excited to be holding a massive bag of Chinese takeaway. I assumed he’d ordered it, he assumed I did, and it took us a couple of minutes to work out neither of us had.
He’d already opened the bag and I noticed that the way that the food was written on and the free things included meant it was probably from our regular takeaway which is not the closest at all. I called them and had a really weird drawn out conversation trying to explain that we had received a delivery that wasn’t ours, was it from them? No it’s fine we’re not upset but we didn’t order anything, no it’s not the wrong order, we haven’t ordered anything, etc.
In the end we tied it back up and the delivery guy came to pick it back up. Made me feel a bit weird actually as I’d had to swipe DHs hand away from the prawn toasts a few times and it made me wonder if anytime our food has been really late from anywhere if it’s been somewhere else first...

MutedUser · 17/12/2018 18:16

I should say that my husband took in a delivery for another house by mistake thought one of our sons had ordered it . Can be difficult when there is a few adults in the house not always done maliciously . Of course when said son said he didn’t order we phoned up the company and told them .

Littleraindrop15 · 17/12/2018 18:18

I would double check with deliveroo because quite a few times they have sent orders to similar sounding streets or numbers etc..

I don't think the neighbours would just steal it.
