To not buy a Christmas jumper, ever

We have a Christmas jumper day at work, but I would be over hot, and wouldn't wear it again, they cost more than I want to spend for a one off, I can decorate existing clothes

Oh and they take a group photo before I arrive

Yanbu.

I buy them for my DC...they enjoy Christmas jumper day.

As for me, I've never worn one and never intend to.

ShadowWeaver · 15/12/2018 17:54

Get a Christmas t-shirt? Cheaper and won't overheat.

ScreamingValenta · 15/12/2018 17:54

I've never bought one and won't be buying one. Bunging a bit of tinsel round my neck is enough to show willing on Christmas jumper day.

GaryBaldbiscuit · 15/12/2018 17:55

I couldn't find a nice shirt

YANBU, I can’t stand them. Picked the kids up from their dad’s and they were all wearing them - made them take them off before they entered my house. Awful. I don’t object to many things but I cannot bear Christmas jumpers. They are neither funny nor do they look good. They make people look like they are following a particularly stupid fashion simply because it is the done thing currently. Like shell suits IMO.

1hamwich4 · 15/12/2018 17:59

Last year I pinned a load of baubles to a plain green jersey and accessorised with a bit of tinsel.

Easy.

GaryBaldbiscuit · 15/12/2018 18:00

Good idea hamwhicjh

If you don’t want to buy or wear one, don’t. Simple Grin

I absolutely love Christmas Jumper Day! I spend ages each year looking for the perfect jumper Smile

Aragog · 15/12/2018 18:02

I work in an infant school so I get lots of opportunities to wear festive attire - Christmas workshop day, Christmas lunch day, Christmas parties, each year groups plays etc.

But I get too warm so I have Christmas at shirts and Christmas dresses. All bought cheap! And retained each year so have a small collection now.

Cheap and cheerful here as they get little wear and likely to have paint, glue or food on them at the end of the day.

Procne · 15/12/2018 18:03

God no. The SU on our campus had a ‘discounted drinks for students wearing Christmas jumpers’ thing last Thursday, and I kept being passed on my way home by throngs of what appeared to be pissed children’s tv presenters.

GreenEggsHamandChips · 15/12/2018 18:04

Yabu get a Christmas t-shirt

BlueJava · 15/12/2018 18:05

I don't bother, I mostly wear black - Xmas or not :) but I work with almost all blokes, no one cares about special jumpers!

MissingSummer · 15/12/2018 18:05

GoddamnCars

Between your post and your username, you sound an absolute joy Wink .

Why would you make your poor kids take them off? What if they actually liked them? I don't understand why some people are so devoid of joy, no one is making you wear them, but making sure others don't get to have any fun either is horrible.

OP, of course you don't have to buy or wear one (I don't have one either for similar reasons of always being hot and not wearing jumpers) but I honestly couldn't care less what others do if it makes them happy.

redsummershoes · 15/12/2018 18:09

get a christmas pj? and use the top for those occassions.

WhyDontYouComeOnOver · 15/12/2018 18:12

I get too hot in jumpers, so this year I bought a plain black tshirt and some iron on vinyl and made my own.

BikeRunSki · 15/12/2018 18:16

I bought a nice blouse with silver stars on.looks a bit Hush, but was much cheaper!

Slipperboots · 15/12/2018 18:17

I have a nice shirt (mantaray from Debenhams) that I bought years ago in a sale that DH said was a waste at the time. I wear it every year. It’s not obviously ‘Christmas’ though

GaryBaldbiscuit · 15/12/2018 18:18

Hush?

OP posts:
BikeRunSki · 15/12/2018 18:28

[[https://www.hush-uk.com/m Hush]{ is a fashion brand much beloved of MN. They do lots of stuff with stars on.

this is the blouse I bought in lieu of a Christmas jumper so I don’t look like the grumpy old grinch at work.

I have to admit that I also have a Christmas jumper that I got from a charity shop, for when my Cubs do their jumper day. At least then I only have to wear it for a couple of hours. I’m not a big fan of acrylic.

BentNeckLady · 15/12/2018 18:34

They’re all inexcusably ugly I can never bring myself to buy one. This year I wore a green jumper and said I was a Christmas tree Grin

Sparklesocks · 15/12/2018 18:40

I have a Christmas T-shirt with a tree on it and sequinned sleeves as I always seem to get overheated. Whatever works for you OP! If you wanted to you could always get a cheaper alternative like a Santa hat or something silly.

cricketmum84 · 15/12/2018 18:50

I can't stand wearing a Xmas jumper. I get so hot and flustered in a jumper!
This year I bought a lovely festive swing dress in light material and have worn that for Christmas jumper day and will wear for Christmas Day too!

Kintan · 15/12/2018 18:54

I just got a plain blue one with a big silver star on from Primark. It cost £7 and isn’t actually ugly like most Christmas jumpers!

GoddamnCars · 15/12/2018 18:56

MissingSummer - I’m hardly a misery! Happily watch Christmas movies, enjoy putting the tree up, got loads of board games for Christmas Eve - I just really really hate Christmas jumpers. What a previous poster said about kids tv presenters is absolutely spot on. The kids know me too well to be upset about having to take them off 😁 and I’ve had several months of car problems, what of it 😬
