SIL stole £65 from online website

Don’t know if I am being uptight but I’m really annoyed by this!!!
My SIL ordered some high end beauty products costing £60 plus delivery. She left them on the tube after collecting from the pick up point.

She then emailed the company to say they had not been delivered and asked them to resend and free deliver for the inconvenience which they did!!! She put pics on Instagram bragging about it and pleased about her new “babies” arriving.

I find it really immoral !

I’m having the same problem with Hermes even though I’ve picked it up from pick up point - I showed ID, signed for it and it even says on their site it’s been collected, but they’re still sending me emails to remind me it’s there 😳 I’m sure if I tried to claim it hadn’t arrived they’d all of a sudden refer to the evidence

I do wonder what would happen if I tried to pick it up again. Obviously I'm not going to and I'm assuming they'll realise it was picked up.

Thehop · 15/12/2018 08:49

Take screen and email them?

Oblomov18 · 15/12/2018 08:59

She is a thief. Surely they'll eventually find out she picked up the first delivery?

HaudYerWheestHen · 15/12/2018 09:14

My SIL rubs her hands in glee when delivery drivers leave parcels at her door when she's out. It means she can either claim they were stolen before she got back and then get refunded, get sent replacements and flog them on Facebook or take the extra lot back to the shop for refunds because they "didn't fit" and under distance selling rules they have to take them back.

OP how did your SIL get the items from the collection point without providing ID or the collection email etc?

Missingstreetlife · 15/12/2018 09:16

If she paid by credit card she could have claimed for lost items.

mydogisthebest · 15/12/2018 09:22

In my Christmas order from Amazon they sent 2 copies of 3 books I had ordered by mistake. I want to return the 3 books but cannot do so without having to pay to do so. I feel dishonest keeping them.

I was telling a neighbour this and she said earlier this year she bought an American style fridge freezer. It cost almost £1,000. It was delivered and was fine. A week later she was out and had a text saying "your fridge freezer has been delivered, we have left it in your garage". When she got home they had delivered another one. She didn't tell the shop and sold it!

neveradullmoment99 · 15/12/2018 09:23

So what.
Get a life.

Irishgal123 · 15/12/2018 09:24

Some companies really are not bothered and obviously that doesn’t make her actions right at all!! I would never do it knowingly. I once ordered a huge box (and bag) of clothes from Boden for my dc’s (literally a whole seasons worth for the two of them) think it was near 500worth. Anyway 2 weeks passed and there was no sign of the package despite a dispatch email etc. I rang them and they said it had been delivered, I didn’t get it. They apologized and and resent the order with express delivery. Order arrived and all was great. THREE days later I went out to the garden to get coal and IN THE coal bunker was my Boden order (the first one) my pastor must’ve put them there and forgot to put in the note. I rang Boden to tell them and they said....not to worry keep them!!! 😮 ok then 🤷‍♀️

Pinkyyy · 15/12/2018 09:27

I think YABU to be so bothered by it, it really doesn't affect you in any way. Of course what she did was wrong but I can't see why you're so annoyed by it

MissLadyM · 15/12/2018 09:35

She's a their, and a stupid one. There'll be evidence of the item being collected. The social media boasting is naff and will get her caught

cariadlet · 15/12/2018 09:50

You're not being uptight at all. You've just got decent morals.

Your sister is a selfish thief - and pretty stupid to brag about it. @HaudYerWheestHen - your SIL is absolutely disgusting. Have you ever confronted her or do you feel you need to bite your tongue to keep the peace?

I find it hard to understand the "mind your own business" attitude of a minority of posters. Surely, if you try to do the right thing yourself you're bound to get angry when you see other people behaving in a selfish or immoral way.

If you contact amazon they will send you a return label - you don't pay.

HaudYerWheestHen · 15/12/2018 10:02

@cariadlet I did sort of confront once. Her other SIL was there too when she was regaling us of her latest delivered non-delivery worth over £200 from Next and we sat there in stunned silence. She had picked the wrong audience. Her SIL said, "So you're a thief then? Do you teach my nieces to steal too?"
My SIL went red and turned to me for back up and I said well it is thieving though isn't it?

She laughed it off, got defensive and then cross.

She probably still does it when she can but she sure doesn't brag about it anymore.

She also eats and drinks round supermarkets then leaves the empty packets on shelves. BIL tried to give my kids pick n mix while walking round too. I declined and called it shoplifting. I also picked up the empty packets behind them and dumped them on the conveyor saying loudly, oops, don't forget these.

cariadlet · 15/12/2018 10:11

@HaudYerWheestHen Brilliant reply from your other SIL and good for you for backing her up. I love the dumping of the empty packets too.

TornFromTheInside · 15/12/2018 10:24

It's theft.

It doesn't matter if it's from a super large multinational or from a local boutique. Imagine if you ran a small cosmetics firm and online buyers were routinely stealing from you with false claims.

Pernickity1 · 15/12/2018 10:31

Idiotic putting it on Instagram. But I’d probably try to do the same if I was in her shoes - wouldn’t tell anyone though!

mydogisthebest · 15/12/2018 11:38

gottastop, thank you for that. Silly question but how do you contact Amazon? I can't find any contact info on their website

AGHHHH · 15/12/2018 11:50

That's fucking terrible!

InsomniacAnonymous · 15/12/2018 11:52

mydogisthebest To contact Amazon, click on 'Help' (one of the options along the top of the page, and then on @Need more help' and you will see 'contact us' listed. You can then get them to either phone you immediately or in 5 minutes, then you don't even have to pay for the call.

InsomniacAnonymous · 15/12/2018 11:55

Sorry, mydogisthebest you may need to select a specific order or subject you want to talk about first. But anyway, follow those steps and you should be able to talk to them one way or t'other. I've always found their customer service to be second to none.

lboogy · 15/12/2018 11:56

I reckon you don't like her and can't stand seeing her joyful that's why you're bothered

FWIW - she's a dishonest person but that dishonesty doesn't affect you so move on

Notmorewashing · 15/12/2018 12:07

It was one of those corner shop pick up things like you can do with ASOS. I can only assume they didn’t use the signature thing by accident.

I don’t see why I need to “get a life” it is annoying to me !!! Even if I am being up tight. She told me it doesn’t matter because the company makes so much money... maybe but I still don’t think it’s right and I’m still disgusted she’s proud of it!

OP posts:
Notmorewashing · 15/12/2018 12:07

I actually like her !!

AllTakenSoRubbishUsername · 15/12/2018 12:22

How has she managed to collect them without having to sign for them? It is very dishonest and unfair on the innocent staff who could lose their minimum wage job just before Christmas.

Serialweightwatcher · 15/12/2018 12:26

I'd be annoyed aswell - it's not just the deed, but being braggy about it and thinking it's good to get one over on the company, which always costs the rest of us in the end Angry
