To think DD shouldn't have called me at work because of this?

To say she has heard back from one of her unis and got an offer? Not trying to be an arse or unsupportive, but I assumed an emergency, I had to come out of a meeting. Just curious what others thought. Thanks.

OP posts:
RuggerHug · 13/12/2018 15:59

Yeah if you've time to mumsnet in work she probably assumed you could take a quick call.

cdtaylornats · 13/12/2018 15:59

t would be very exciting - my friends daughter got her acceptance for medicine at Aberdeen and was literally bouncing with excitement.

BabySharkAteMyHamster · 13/12/2018 16:00

Bloody hell Sad

PerfectPeony · 13/12/2018 16:00

Well I hope when my baby daughter grows up and gets offers from university that she calls me to tell me! I certainly won’t go on Mumsnet to complain about it.

wednesday32 · 13/12/2018 16:01

Wow, if you feel this is not an important reason to call then I worry for your daughter. If she feels you act negativity to calling you then you may find those phone calls become far less frequent when she does leave for university. This is the biggest thing to happen to her in her life so far. Where she goes to study and what she studies could affect the rest of her life, her job, her financial options and even making friends for life. I would say that is a perfect reason to call.

SomeBigBaubles · 13/12/2018 16:02

She was excited and wanted to share it with her mum.

You don't come across as very nice, OP.

tinysleepy · 13/12/2018 16:02

Well, I think you are being both an arse and unsupportive.
Uni offers are a massive deal for young people; why in God's name would not want to hear that news?
Bollocks to work for a couple of minutes, this is your daughter's exciting news.
She obviously couldn't keep it to herself and wanted to tell her mum, which is entirely NORMAL!!!

AlletrixLeStrange · 13/12/2018 16:02

I drove straight to my mums at 8:05am and woke her up when I got my uni offer as I was so excited!
Glad you're not my mum.

itsgoodtobehome · 13/12/2018 16:02

That's massive news. Of course she should have called you. I hope you were pleased for her and didn't tell her off for calling you at work? My goodness, I would be so thrilled I would have announced it to the meeting!

WorraLiberty · 13/12/2018 16:04

It wouldn't have bothered me at all. I'd be over the moon for her.

icannotremember · 13/12/2018 16:04

Unless there's some sort of well known, unbreakable arrangement in your family that you are only contacted at work if it's an emergency, YABU. Did she call your work number? If so, why did whoever it was answering not say "thistleorange is in a meeting at the moment, can I ask her to call back?" If she called your mobile, why did you have it on during a meeting anyway?

LucyAutumn · 13/12/2018 16:04

Sorry OP I think you're BU, this is a big deal to her and all you needed to do was she support by being excited for her.

HildaZelda · 13/12/2018 16:04

Not trying to be an arse or unsupportive

Well you may not be trying, but you've certainly succeeded.

Cherries101 · 13/12/2018 16:05

I have a senior role and I mute my personal and work phones during meetings, following up on calls between meetings. That’s what you should do too OP.

TwoGinScentedTears · 13/12/2018 16:05

I dunno, some jobs mean you aren't accessible at all when you're at work. Some jobs, you are.

I do an 'inaccessible' job so for a member of staff to come and get me would mean that there was something serious afoot.

But, she sounds very happy and excited and wanted to share the news with you. What's done is done, now try and be excited and happy for her!

Flowerpot2005 · 13/12/2018 16:06

I have to say I'm slightly taken aback by this post.

The lack of any form of emotion towards your DD's achievement is really sad OP. Never ever take for granted children, whatever age, wanting to share news, a hug, just wanting to be with you. So soon she'll be off & you'll regret not enjoying such little but special moments.

IHopeThisIsAGoodIdea · 13/12/2018 16:06

You sound lovely.

GoofyIsACow · 13/12/2018 16:06

Actually i think that is an emergency worth disturbing you for! A positive one!

cjt110 · 13/12/2018 16:06

Here's your grip.....

She was excited and wanted to share with you because you're her Mum. You should be relieved she wants to share stuff with you.

Satsumaeater · 13/12/2018 16:07

Yes I think she should have called you at work. Unless you are a medic in the middle of an operation/saving somebody's life etc, no work is more important.

Snowwontbelong · 13/12/2018 16:07

No shift work in being a dm!!

GoodHeavensNoImAChicken · 13/12/2018 16:07

That’s a huge deal! Well done to her. I would absolutely let her off for that??

MerdedeBrexit · 13/12/2018 16:08

You are being completely unreasonable, it's a huge thing in a Sixth Former's life, it's going to shape her future, no wonder she's excited! Congratulations to her, I think it's lovely that she called you to tell you immediately!

Klobuchar · 13/12/2018 16:08

What’s wrong with you, OP?

cuppycakey · 13/12/2018 16:08

Wow.

If that's your genuine response I feel very sorry for DD
