IABU but Period Blood???

Got the coil in 7 months ago, periods been irregular, last 6 week's been bleeding on and off thought nothing of it, did check with the nurse she said it sounded o.k.
Use a moon cup, last night it was full within 4 hours (30ml) emptied, this morning was over flowing, 8am-11am full overflowing, and 11 till now overflowed
In pain too, my drs is closed till 130 so anyone know if this is normal?? 120ml over 8 hours or so? Plus the overflowingness of it

Anything over about 80mls in an entire period is considered heavy I think so I would get it checked.

I had very heavy prolonged bleeding with my coil and it eventually came out with huge clots and I needed medication to stop the bleeding.

It's normal for me (perimenopause) but if it's new to you it's best to check with your GP.

I get this for 24-48 hours (I can overflow a mooncup in an hour) and then it settles down for a few weeks. It's annoying but so far not dangerous.

No, I'm only early 20s so not menopause going to call the Dr.

I have this sort of flow, but have fibroids and am in my 40s. If this has happened suddenly, you need to see a doctor.

You need to see a GP. Are they closed for lunch? or closed today?

Please do see someone even if it is walk in clinic - push to see out of Hours Gynae or GP if at al possible. Lots of weird (but rare) things can happen with coil so best to get checked out

The women on the phone said "so it's jjst a heavy period" I've soaked through another pad in 30 minutes, feel cold and weak too!

What coil is it OP? I had the copper coil for 2 years and periods were very heavy as you describe.

Insist you be seen if you feel something is wrong, better to be on the safe side

Soaking through pads in 30 minutes is not ‘a heavy period’ Angry

If you are bleeding heavily you need to be seen, particularly if you are starting to feel unwell

Go to a walk in. Ignore the ‘It’s just a heavy period’. It’s a lot of blood you’re losing.

I would call 111 and see what they advise.

Try calling 111. There was a thread on here last year about a woman in similar circumstances who ended up in hospital. Hopefully this won't happen to you, but if you can't get in at your doctors then they might be able to help.

Thatsalot please go to hospital, if you feel cold and weak, I know its not the same but I haemorrhaged five days after I gave bith to my daughter and I felt very weak and was nearly unconcious before the hospital agreed i needed to go in.

If you are bleeding that much you need to be seen by a doctor even if it is for them to tell you there is nothing seriously wrong it sounds like you are losing a lot of blood.

It’s not “just a heavy period” if you don’t usually suffer from heavy periods. Please don’t let them fob you off.

Also, hold onto your pads and put them in plastic bags with time on so they can see how heavy it is.

It's not just a heavy period. I had a bleeding issue some years ago and was hospitalised seven times in a year and had four blood transfusions. On one occasion at 11pm on a Sunday I tried to see the out of hours GP, who told me to put my feet up and see my own GP in the morning. I told him I felt like I was going to pass out and was going to take myself to A&E if he wouldn't see me, and could he maybe call ahead to the on-call gynae for me? He said no. I drove myself there (while sitting on a bath towel, which was literally soaked through when I got there), was immediately put on a trolley with a drip and had a blood transfusion before morning. I ended up staying in a week that time. If you feel faint and super tired you are probably anaemic. Sorry you have to be firm when you probably don't feel up to having a fight, people can be arseholes. Good luck.

Copper coil can make your period very heavy. Take ibuprofen regularly - it will lighten the flow
