Today I found out that many moons ago, When I was 18/19 and before I was dating DH, who would’ve been mid 20s at the time. He and 2 of his friends (who all worked behind the same very cool & hip bar) had placed bets on who could sleep with me first.
The 2 losers had to pay 50 quid each - and the winner got £100.

This is our best man.
My nieces godfather
And my bloody husband

AIBU TO BE FUMING RIGHT NOW?!
I feel like a piece of meat.

Also iabu- I know it. I will let it drop. I love DH more than anything and the other 2 guys are his best mates and a firm part of our family.
I just needed to get it off my chest.
Young men’s brains really are in their trousers aren’t they?

They are arseholes. It might have been a long time ago, but becuase you just found out, to you its just happened iuswim.

masktaster · 09/12/2018 21:33

Sounds like a bit of "fun", albeit at your expense - they might not have expected it to ever happen.

Now you know, you'd definitely be justified in demanding that £100 for you Wink

MaxineReynolds · 09/12/2018 21:35

Omg I would not like that at all- your DH sounds like a dick

Justaboy · 09/12/2018 21:39

That - sadley is the type of crap young adolescent men, boys rather can come up with. They can sometimes come up with more dire crap after some years they usually mature and behave better.

Well some of them do;!.

Bamchicabaawaa · 09/12/2018 21:43

Maxine he’s not a dick now! He’s nearly forty and very mellow and mature.
He was a bit of a “Lad” back in the day and I was considered some kind of man whisperer for getting him to move into a little cottage with me and my dog within the year! Grin

LittleLlamaontheduskyroad · 09/12/2018 21:48

I reckon that £100 is yours OP, with interest, of course. Grin

Bamchicabaawaa · 09/12/2018 21:48

spongebob exactly. It feels very raw! But it’s not untypical of young men at all!

justaboy they’ve all grown up they are proper men now, all engaged or married. High levels of respect for women.

maskateer I’ve been eyeing up a Cambridge satchel for a while now maybe DH Can buy it for me.

I did find out when we were out with our best man. Both him and DH said they only made the bet because they thought I was so far out of their league- which true or not redeemed them slightly!

I think I’m having this.
The extra £75 can be a mixture of interest and compensation right? Wink

God no, that is incredibly disrespectful. From all of them. Good for you if you can put it behind you, I couldn't.

SerenDippitty · 09/12/2018 22:02

It was disrespectful immature behaviour. If you’d found out about it at the time surely it would have been a deal breaker?

rubaduhlo · 09/12/2018 22:02

People do things when they are younger that they regret. Id forgive this as he's obviously grown up. People often do silly things in younger years!

fibonaccisequins · 09/12/2018 22:10

Get the bag. And maybe some shoes too... Wink

wellhellojill · 09/12/2018 22:11

How did you find out?

squiggleirl · 09/12/2018 22:14

I'm loving that that bag is advertised as being able to hold a curly wurly..... I propose we give up on SI units, and adopt the curly wurly as a unit of length!

PebbleDashed · 09/12/2018 22:16

I had an ex do that with one of his mates to me! In my case I'm glad he is a very long time ago too. I definitely understand your feelings op, I hit the roof when I found out. Men. Just bloody men.

Bamchicabaawaa · 09/12/2018 22:19

Screamqueenz I currently don’t think it’s worth binning my otherwise happy marriage for something my dickhead husband did before we started going out!

seren to be honest no I wouldn’t have gone out with him if I’d known. But maybe that’s not a bad thing?

rubaduhlo don’t i know it. I got my tits out in a weatherspoons when I broke up with the boy I was dating before DH! Don’t worry. I don’t think there will be a lasting impact

fibona Any shoe suggestions? I think I’d like some superga

wellhellojill ainsley harriot came over and told me
No seriously, him and his mate were reminiscing about what a stupid bet it was, but how we might not be married if they didn’t make it!

OP posts:
Bamchicabaawaa · 09/12/2018 22:20

squiggle I didn’t see that. That’s hilarious. Haven’t had a curly wurly in YEARS.

pebble I’m lucky that he hasn’t actually got form. And he’s changed so much and we’ve grown up together so much over the years that it is ALMOST. And I mean almost. Funny.

OP posts:
Oly5 · 09/12/2018 22:26

Ooooh annoying but not worth stressing over now. And isn’t it a kind of compliment that they all fancied you?
Deffo spend the £100 on something ace

FascinatingCarrot · 09/12/2018 22:30

Curly Wurly. forgets what the OP is on about

Monkeynuts18 · 09/12/2018 22:31

I absolutely see why you’re not over the moon about it. But a lot of people are dicks around that age. I definitely wouldn’t like to be judged on a lot of the stuff I did 15 years ago.

I actually think I’d be more annoyed about the fact it was brought up now than the fact it happened in the first place IYSWIM?

Jenala · 09/12/2018 22:34

I think it's quite funny. But on MN men aren't allowed to make jokes or want to have sex and if they do those things you should really get your ducks in a row and squirrel 10k away in a secret bank account and photocopy the paperwork

LittleLifeRaft · 09/12/2018 22:35

That bag's bloody lovely OP, you definitely need compensating for your hurt feelings.

Threeminis · 09/12/2018 22:38

I think your dh and friend need to go halves on the bag and a nice pair of shoes too

TheNewbieStep · 09/12/2018 22:39

I can't comprehend how some posters are getting bent out of shape over this!

Boys in their youth made a silly bet! Little did they know you'd marry him. The fact that three men are still so close now shows something of his/their character.

And, yes, they owe you the bag - it's very rather lovely x

Bamchicabaawaa · 09/12/2018 22:40

oly I’m definitely starting to see the funny side to be honest.
I just needed somewhere to process it. And not to DH although I’ll talk to him before bed.

Monkey yes, the fact it happens is here nor there it was so long ago.
Although I can forgive the fact it came up. As the conversation started with DH talking about our anniversary and how he never expected it/never thought he’d marry thought they’d be lads on the road yada yada. And then matey brings up the bet. It’s kind of sweet. In a young adult men don’t know what the fuck they’re doing sort of way.
